email subscription management

I have noticed that I am getting TONS of emails now from games that apparently automatically subscribed me for updates. I bought a few mega bundles so I assume I was automatically placed on about 5000 mailing lists now.

I can click "unsubscribe" from each email for each title if I want, but this is annoying. I looked into the account settings and haven't seen any management console that would show ALL the things I have been subscribed to and control those. Is there anything like that which I am missing? I don't want to fully turn the feature off, but I am sick of the constant spam.

Thanks.

i’ll second this topic to call attention to the issue, because i’m in the same camp. without using any third-party scripts, i’ve manually added a ton of bundled games to my library (because i prefer to be able to search and filter through them via the desktop app), and now im forced to deal with a ton of spam that i had no way to opt out of ahead of time

i’ve been looking around in the threads here and it seems like this issue has been going around unresolved for some time now..

so, summarizing the issue, first of all, it seems that the messages that devs can send to users directly via the “Interact” tab, and the “Update” messages that devs can send indirectly to users, are actually two separate types of announcement e-mails, which is not immediately obvious, unless you check the domains of the e-mail senders (postmaster@itch.io and postmaster@updates.itch.io respectively¹)

(i feel this is relevant to mention, because despite essentially being very similar to users, i.e. ‘A Message From A Dev About A Game You Own’, these seem to be handled very differently internally)

so, the first big issue is that the Settings page for E-mail Notifications only lists the latter (“Devlogs and Updates from projects I follow”) as an option to unsubscribe from², and also doesn’t allow for any granular game/dev-specific options, it’s either all or nothing. the “Unsubscribe” link in the e-mails is essentially just a shortcut to the E-Mail Notifications settings.

then, the second big issue is that the “Interact” messages from the devs, which is the main source of “spam” that bundle-buyers have complained about, does not show up on the list of e-mails to unsubscribe from, nor does there seem to be an accessible list of projects you’ve been subscribed to. seemingly, the only current option is to wait for a dev to send you a message, so you can get an “Unsubscribe” link, which does work for individual games, unlike the Devlog and Update messages.

so, putting aside any suggested solutions for this, as this is not my site to run, i’ll just say that there is at least a few clear points of confusion and frustration for users, myself included, that i hope can be addressed somehow.

¹ (i considered simply putting all e-mails from postmaster@itch.io into a spam filter, but this address has also been used to send me Steam keys from Kickstarters and download links from purchases, which would be bad to miss out on, so that’s not an ideal option either)

² (despite myself being unsubscribed from “devlogs and updates” from “projects i own or follow”, i’ve sometimes been receiving messages from when a dev releases a new game, which strictly speaking isn’t an announcement about to a game i already own. this means either there’s another checkbox options missing from the E-Mail Notifications page, or “projects” doesn’t just refer to games, but also a developer’s account? either way, that’s more points of confusion to deal with)
