A little while ago I released a new version for my game War In Heaven V.3 on itch.io to get some feedback so that I could develop my skills at making games. Sadly no one has commented on the game and I have not received any feedback.

So,  if anyone would be so kind as to give me feedback on my small game then I would very grateful. For those who are interested here is a link to my game:https://redvonhammerofficial.itch.io/war-in-heaven

This is a good start, but I’d note a few things.

First, there are a few technical issues. Nothing major, but worth fixing when you find the time:

  • If you click outside the game area you can’t control it anymore (arrow keys and space scroll instead of controlling the player), clicking back in doesn’t seem to fix it.
  • When you die, if you wait on that screen the death sound effect will keep looping forever
  • Fullscreen mode doesn’t make the game area any bigger, which makes it seem a little useless
  • After you load into the title screen, it takes 10+ seconds for the music to start playing
  • Sometimes the title music and in-game music play on top of each other

As for the game itself, I think it’s a neat concept but there’s not much to the game right now. It feels like there’s no real reason to move up and down, since the planes are all so big that you’re unlikely to ever pass them without blowing them up. That kinda leaves the gameplay as just zooming back and forth hammering the spacebar, whereas most shoot ’em ups have a lot more emphasis on dodging and target prioritization. Another (less important) thing I noticed is that your plane has a big health meter but enemies do fixed amounts of damage. It seems like either you need other damage sources or you could change to a system where one hit is one damage and scale the health to that.

So, if I were to change one thing I’d probably either make the playing area bigger or the planes smaller. Then I’d probably add more types of planes and obstacles to deal with.

Thank you SOOO much for the really thoughtful and detailed feedback. I will try to update the game based on your feedback (soon)
