Hi Yal, thanks for making Hollow Hearts. I had fun with it, even when spectacularly missing the shop and the Shield/Dash upgrade in the first playthrough. Here's most of the blind playthrough, I guess I forgot to clip the 2nd part before the VODs expired. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1225962434

I also saw that you posted the Shards guides so I did a few 100% Secrets runs too. :) Here's a guide should anyone else want to take a punt at it. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yQxv0xTCkYmPbRlut5tR6OfTjL2TQbD22nGrYq5eBQs/...

I know it's unoptimal to end with Sakura, but Doll Master is pretty excruciating to fight.

Oh wow, I watched the entire playthrough and it's definitely not a fun experience going through most of the game without the main way to avoid bullets (and without the range/ATK upgrades either, they're so cheap because they're basically mandatory for having fun)... and I figured everyone would at least talk to every NPC until they started repeating dialogue in a casual run, but you're not the first player missing there's a shop entirely. Might need to work on conveyance for my next game...

(I noticed a bunch of whole bunch of stuff that's unclear, that's why blind playthroughs are the best! All those little useless alcoves that look like secret passages but aren't are mostly there to make things look less boring, but I might need to turn it down...)

Those speedruns were pretty dope, though! Shame about accidentally buying that map at the end... It's at the top of the list because you really don't want to miss the map on a casual playthrough (as you might've noticed... :P) and players usually only reads the first 1-2 items on a menu before zoning out. I've tried to keep the game as speedrun-friendly as possible (IGT is paused during cutscenes/menus, bosses are guaranteed to use every attack once per cycle instead of pure RNG, all lore is delivered through interactibles you can just ignore, etc) but whenever there's a clash with the interests of casual players I've chosen to prioritize the first-timers' experience.

The desaturation filter which gets turned off when you get the mask was one of the core ideas behind the game, it was originally made for a pride month jam and my idea was to represent falling in love with the world getting more colors (... and then I overscoped an insane amount and went like 5 months past the deadline before completing the game, but I never really reconsidered my original ideas for some reason... maybe I should've re-evaluated things at some point...)

And yeah, Miranda is like the worst cat ever.

I know of the Touhou games mostly being bullet hell experiences with an absurd amount of stuff on screen so I assumed it was a meant to be more of a hardcore moving and dodging experience, with the health regeneration to assist when things go wrong. anytime I wished for an i-frame dash was pure hopecasting haha.

I'm glad I could find some other gameplay on youtube which unveiled these combat revelations to me and made me come back, or maybe I should have watched the trailer.

I took your feedback to heart and hacked together a speedrun mode! I tried to fix everything that annoyed you specifically during the WR run, including putting shards at the top of the shop when using this mode and making the intro cutscene just... not exist. Sorry it took so long, I still have much to learn UwU
