Square Shooter - a minimalist arcade game

Hello, I've just submitted my first complete web game at https://squarecircle.itch.io/square-shooter as a personal project.

It's a somewhat minimalist shooter where you have to survive, dodge, and shoot through levels of swarmy square enemies. There are power-ups and a boost ability you can use. I also implemented different graphics and difficulty levels.

Please give feedback, it'd be greatly appreciated :0

Thanks for checking my game out!

Congratulations on releasing your first complete Web game!

I had a fun time playing (although I am admittedly not very good at these kinds of games). I like the graphics (the "ghost" effect trailing behind you is quite satisfying to watch) and the power-ups. The sound effects fit the aesthetic perfectly. How did you create them?

My only complaint would be that the frame-rate appears to dip every now and again. It's nothing major (lowest I saw was a drop to 52 frames instead of 60) and it didn't make the game unplayable, but it was noticeable and took me out of the experience the few times it happened.

All in all, great game!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the graphics, although that may be the reason for your frame-rate dips. As for sound effects, I used bfxr.net, which is  a browser 8-bit video game sound effect creator. It suited my game pretty well.

~ Thanks for playing
