Hi, I'm creating a chill sandbox where you can build, create, and have open world exploration of your own beach resort.

Patreon | Discord | YouTube

What's done so far:

Build mode:

Create your ideal beach resort on an island!

Note: I'm not the best at creating landscapes. Hopefully you can do better in-game! ;)

Terrain Manipulation

There are many ways to customize/manipulate the terrain

Brush settings:

  • Change the brush shape between a square and a circle
  • Change the brush size
  • Change the softness of the brush
(3 edits)

Terrain Manipulation Modes

  • Raise/lower the terrain
  • Smooth the terrain
  • Set the terrain to a specific height

Here is a showcase of raising the terrain with different brush softness values:

Paint the terrain

The same brush settings apply when painting the terrain, too!

  • Change the softness of the brush
  • Change the opacity/intensity of the brush

Asset Selection Features

The asset selection functionality and GUI is almost complete!

Current Features:

  • Like organization? Filter, search¹, and sort² the assets by creator name, asset name, tag, and/or asset content pack
  • Can't see enough detail or prefer to see as many options as possible all at once? Change the size of the thumbnails with a slider
  • Can't figure out or don't really care which asset to use? Click on the select random asset button to let the game choose for you!

Note: The current list of terrain textures is not complete. More textures will constantly be added. Have an idea of what texture to add? Then join the Discord community brainstorm and share your thoughts!

Features yet to come:

  • Asset favorites
  • Custom asset tags
  • Select random components for entire asset all at once (in addition to select random for each individual component)
  • Want more features or improvements? Then share your thoughts in the Discord server!

¹ Search can currently only search by asset name

² Sort cannot sort by asset content pack, but can sort by recently added

Weather Dynamics & Audio

Audio has finally been added to the game. Check out the sound effects in the new video also showcasing the weather dynamics

Props

Props have been added in Build Mode! Well, one prop so far.

Sick of continuously scrolling for a particular shape of a certain size? In Splash! A Beach Resort Simulation Game, all you have to do is add the generic shape prop and customize until you get the exact shape you want!

Blend between shapes

Use sliders to transform the cube to a sphere, cylinder, cone, or pyramid.

Bevel Edges

Bevel the edges of the cube to create semi-spheres, curves, and arcs.

Rotate

Rotate the shape on each axis.

Scale

Scale the shape on each axis and on the global axis.

Material Customization (cont.)

Tiling

Change the size of the textures in either x or y directions or both at the same time.

Color Swap

Want to quickly see how a 2-color texture looks with the colors swapped? Just click the swap button.

Unlimited Colors

Change the color of textures from a color wheel to get that ideal color.

Roughness/Smoothness

Think a material is too shiny or not shiny enough? Change the roughness/smoothness with a slider.

Emission

Want your prop to glow in the dark? Change the emission intensity with a slider.

Good to see how you are making progress. And terrain transformation and some objects. I remember that i like to play in some industrial giant game, and transport tycoon. So good luck with your sim dev!

Thank you! Games like those are a part of my inspiration for this game.

Props: Updates to the Generic Shape

A while ago I posted about the first prop added to the game: the generic shape. To refresh your memory, you could scale, rotate, blend, and bevel the prop . Now, I added three (3) more ways to customize the shape! Take a look below to see...

Twist

Twist the shape along the z-axis in either direction

Shear

Shear the shape in either the x-axis, y-axis, or both axes in either direction.

Bend

Bend the shape in either the x-axis, y-axis, or both in either direction.

Do note that you can combine all three of these transformations along with the previous ways to customize the shape as showcased before.

Graphics Update

Firstly, for those who have been following the game, I want to let you know that I updated the game logo.

Secondly, I want to state that I have been working on updating the in-game graphics as well. More details will be revealed soon, so stay posted!

Hello all, I just want to say that I'm still working on the game. The graphics update is taking a bit longer than I anticipated, but I am making progress, so stay posted!

Hey everyone, I'm still working on updating the graphics for the game. I didn't realize how many changes I would have to make, but I am making progress. Hopefully my next post will actually show you some of the updates, so stay posted!

Graphics Update Part 1 - Underwater Effect

Hello everyone! I finally have an update to the graphics. Although it is still a work-in-progress, here is a sample of what is looks like to go underwater

You may have also noticed the new graphics of the island and water. I'm still working on improving the visuals of the entire game, so stay tuned, and thanks for your interest!

Graphics Update Part 2 - Day/Night Cycle

Hello! In this post, I am showcasing a video of the day/night cycle with the updated graphics. Please note that this is still a work-in-progress, and changes will occur.

Here is a link to the itch.io post of the day/night cycle with the old graphics, for comparison (wow, I can't believe it's been a year already!).

Be sure to subscribe to the Splash! A Beach Resort Simulation Game YouTube channel for updates, and stay posted to this thread for further details.

Again, thank you for your interest!

Updated Terrain Manipulation

Hello! This video showcases new methods of manipulating the terrain. You can now rotate the brush and play with more shapes! Both these options can be used in both sculpting and painting the terrain.

You can still change the brushes' size, intensity, and softness (for some brushes), and you can still use the original square and circle brushes. For a refresher, check out the original video.

I hope you enjoyed the video, and stay posted for more new features!

Hello! It has been a while since I last posted, so I just wanted to let ya'll know that I am still working on the game. Stay tuned to see the next update to the game soon.

Updated Prop Manipulation - Grids

Hello, I have update the prop manipulation to include grids. You can confine prop movement to a grid, change the grid size, or turn off the grid and freely move the prop around. Below is a video showcasing this:

Thanks for watching and stay posted for the next update!

Multi-Selection Tool

Greetings! I have added the multi-selection tool. Using this tool, you use 3 different selection modes to select props: Single Select, Box Select, and Circle Select.

Single Select

Single Select is normal selection where you just click on a prop normally and it will be selected. Holding your preferred modifier key (SHIFT by default), you can add to or subtract from that selection.

Box Select

Box Select is what you usually expect where you drag the mouse to create a box to select multiple props at once. Holding your preferred modifier key, you can add to or subtract from that selection.

Circle Select

Circle select is inspired from Blender where you can increase the radius of the circle with the mouse scroll wheel and drag click to select multiple props at once. Holding your preferred modifier key, you can add to or subtract from that selection.

Below is a video showcasing the Multi-Selection Tool.

Thanks for viewing and stay posted for the next update!

Terrain Manipulation SFX

Hey everyone! In this post, I showcase the SFX when editing the terrain. As you can see (and hear) in the video below, there are sound effects when sculpting and painting the terrain. There is also an SFX when changing the brush shape and size.

Thanks for viewing and stay posted!

New Prop - Rock

Hello! I have finally added a new prop to the game: the rock. The rock prop is as customizable as the generic shape prop. You can change its color, size, and rotation. You can twist, shear, and bend it. In addition, you can deform its shape. No need to continuously scroll across various rock shapes, sizes, and colors. Just choose the rock prop and customize it to your liking.

Thanks for viewing. Stay tuned for more updates!
