Is there any argument I can pass to the desktop executable to make it launch a game directly? I want to add desktop menu shortcuts for some of my games and want to skip opening up the launcher gui as an extra step.

The client is not required to launch anything.  The directory where the game is installed should have an executable that you can create a shortcut to.
