Hi,

I'm currently looking for a 2D artist who would like to help me draw the original characters of the game I'm working on. This is a project that I'm doing on my own and I started it weeks ago. Right now, I'm writing down the game design and doing some prototypes here and there to get a feeling of how the game should look like.

Recently I have been in touch with a few 2D artists but, unfortunately, I haven't found someone yet so I'm reposting this topic by adding a few more details.

  • About the game:
    • the core of the story: it's a classic hero story similar to Super Mario, with the Hero going through a series of worlds and sub-levels in order to save his beloved, fighting a boss at the end of each world and then facing the Main Antagonist at the end of everything
    • how my game differs: other than the main core I described above, there will also be an original story for this game (although not too complex), there will be general enemies and hazards to hinder the Hero's quest and different environments for each World.
And, most importantly, the main feature of the game is to combine gaming with the learning (and culture) of an Asian language, in this particular case it's going to be Chinese (to begin with). For example, during his quest, the Hero will unlock items that will test the Player on Chinese characters through trial and error. The more the Player learns, the higher his XP will get.
I want to create a good balance between gaming and learning so that the learning part doesn't become too invasive or frustrating.

Here some key points for your reference:

  • Drawing style: ideally, I'm looking for someone who could draw anime-style, cel-shaded characters. The characters should also include a series of animation sheets that I could import into Unity3D
  • Look & Feel: as the game story is set in the future, I'm expecting the main characters to have a cartoonish, fantasy/cyberpunk look
  • About my budget: it's not much, to be honest, so I think I could offer around 25 USD per character, including a set of animations, as a small thank you for your effort
  • Rev share: if this project is successfully completed and released someday, and if I use your asset/s in the published release, I'm also open to discussing revenue share, if there is any revenue at all
  • About the assets produced: the original characters that will be designed should be available for this project only, and shouldn't be resold to someone else for another project
  • Original Characters that I may need:
    • Revamping of the Hero (in the video below, you can see how it looks like now)
    • The Hero's Girl
    • The Main Antagonist
    • 4-5 Side Bosses
    • 2 - 12 supporting characters on the hero's side

Here below is a very simple prototype I made: not much going on at the moment but it's mostly to show how the current Hero looks like.
