I'll be posting what we change in each update here!

Version 1.0.0

  • This is the initial jam release of the game, built in 72 hours for Ludum Dare 34. It includes 37 NPCs, and over 150 issues for them to present to you.

Version 1.1.0

  • About 40 new issues added to give some depth to the existing storylines and characters.
  • Rewrote a few old issues to be clearer and make more sense.
  • New "Results" system for special events that can happen at the end of each day depending on what's going on. There are about 20 result events to start with.
  • Slightly extended main story. Special dialogs will continue past a population of 250 now.
  • Cleaned up a bit of the UI and added some small graphics.
  • Rewrote most of the game's ugly jam code, so it will be much easier to work on in the future.

Version 1.2.0

  • Over 80 new issues added, including a few new characters and some new bits and pieces for existing characters. This brings the total number of issues in the game to 275, containing over 11000 words of dialogue!
  • Added 30 new end-of-day result messages based on different states your kingdom can be in.
  • A few graphical bugfixes (coins disappearing, larger characters not walking fully offscreen)
  • Pressing Y and N at the same time no longer causes weird stuff to happen.
  • The button animation in the king's speech bubble now reflects what button you actually pressed.
  • Fixed a few other small typos and logic bugs.

Version 2.0.0

  • Saving system: Your progress now automatically saves after every interaction, so you can quit the game without worry and resume right where you left off.
  • Main menu: The game now starts with a menu screen allowing you to sign in to Game Jolt and manage your save file.
  • New main story: The main story has been completely rewritten with a much more clear beginning, middle, and 2 endings.
  • Tons of new content: Over 100 new interactions have been added (about 5000 additional words of dialogue), including a few new characters.
  • Experimental Mac and Linux support: Mac and Linux builds have been uploaded. These builds may have problems of their own, but people have been requesting them so we're giving it a shot.
  • Mouse support: The game can now be played entirely with the mouse! Click on different parts of the screen and on the king's Y/N speech bubble to play without using a keyboard.
  • Mute button: Click the speaker in the upper left to mute the game's audio.
  • Aspect ratio support: The game's UI will now adjust depending on your screen's aspect ratio so no information is cut off. New aspect ratios have been added to the startup options in the standalone version.
  • New art for the city in the background, which now has a much more detailed growth animation as your population expands.
  • Game Jolt highscores: If you are signed in to Game Jolt, your stats will automatically be submitted to the leaderboards.
  • Game Jolt trophies: If you are signed in to Game Jolt, you'll now receive trophies for completing certain actions in the game.
  • Revised a number of existing storylines to make them less annoying (include the witch's haunting storyline).
  • Added some polish to the UI animation when starting a game.
  • Clarified a few pieces of dialogue where the character's intentions were unclear.
  • Fixed a bug where very large stat numbers would display incorrectly.
  • Fixed a bug where the stat counters on the left would sometimes clip into each other.
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes the stat numbers in the bottom left would not be visible.
Version 2.1.0
  • Controller support! You can now use XBOX and PS4 controllers to play the game.
  • Better keyboard and mouse support on menus.
  • The arrow keys can now be used as input (Left = Yes, Down = Continue, Right = No).
  • Fixed an issue where some players would not be able to start the game.
  • Fixed an issue where save files could become corrupted.
  • Reworded some dialog to make it clearer.
  • Fixed several typos.
  • Balance changes.
  • Moved the Game Jolt login button to the "Extras" menu.

Version 2.2.0

  • You can now play as a Queen! When starting a new game, you can choose to play as a King or Queen. This doesn't change anything other than your appearance, and what words characters will use when referring to you.
  • Added some sound effects to the menus.
  • Fixed highlight graphics of some UI elements.
  • The Wizard won't offer to help with certain quests if he was banished.
  • Fixed other small bugs and typos.
