An Alternative To Rolling Dice

I'm the designer of Blind Luck - The Last Engineer - A Solo RPG, which is out today!

I wanted to use a thematic alternative to rolling dice, so I developed a new system.

In the game, you are the only person able to repair the power station, after the world has been plunged into darkness and is overrun with deadly creatures trying to kill you. Each turn you explore a different part of the town in the dark, trying to find the parts you need to restore power, whilst also trying not to make too much noise.

So, instead of rolling dice for successes, you close your eyes and draw a circle on a sheet filled with numbers. The sum of the numbers within the circle are your results. If they are within a certain range (15-30 etc.) you have a success. If the sum of the numbers is outside the range you have failed and something bad will probably happen.

It's super thematic. Whilst your character is stumbling around in the dark looking for parts, you have your eyes closed hoping for success. It adds a really nice tension to the game and makes results feel less lucky.

You can find out more about the game HERE

To celebrate its launch, it currently has 10% off.
