Jail

I've recently been reminded of an issue with the Jail that I've almost forgotten about.

It said in the tutorial that no one can escape the Jail, but from my recent game session, once again someone escaped during the night.

I've tried putting a jailer before, as for handcuffs and the like...I forgot but I think they are still able to escape? Anyway, I'm just confused as it says that they cannot escape the Jail but yet, they occasionally are able to still. This is without the Kernels btw.

Example: I was experimenting and violated Emily was it? Then put her in Jail to make her obedient enough to not escape. Ultimately, she still is able to. Not sure if its because she's a special character or something or if all npc's are able to do this.

Is this a bug or something or?

I believe this is not a bug. If the slave's obedience is low and loyalty is low theres a chance for them to escape during night time. I think your jailers stats also makes a difference. I forgot the exact stats for what a jailer needs. But I think its not a bug, but do correct me if im wrong.

Mmm...That makes sense, what bothers me still though is that in the tutorial it said that no captives can escape which is then wrong information.

Aside from that, it also leads me to wonder what happens to the ones that do escape, particularly the ones that are seemingly special or unique characters like Emily. Do I get her back or like meet somewhere else sometime in the game or gone forever? I at least want those kind of characters to not be gone forever when and if they ever escape.

Anyway, thanks for your opinion on the matter.

Branding also reduces the escape chance and increases jail effectiveness. Higher grade slaves will have longer rebellion strength and generally be more likely to escape. At game start the jail is barely fit for purpose and it isn't until you get a number of upgrades, such as branding, that jail becomes effective. I'd advise newcomers to jail only slave grade and poor grade captives until you are more confident in how the jail works.

Escapees are essentially gone. I think there is some specific Emily escape content but I've no idea if it is related to the jail at all. Unique characters generally have no protection from escape or death.

(1 edit)

Now that you mention it, branding did say that there would be a chance that they'd be returned to you if escaped? Idk. But yeah, it does make it harder on the premise that they will be treated criminals and looked down upon as far as in-game narrative goes.

As for Emily's escape sequence, mmm...I wonder. For now, I try to avoid her on the premise of role playing as a start up aspiring magician that had studied for years, though with little luck until the big break of getting the mansion whilst meeting a dependable stranger and partner on the way.

No protection eh, oof. Protect them all, one way or the other. Thanks for the head's up.

Normally the jail and handcuffs have 100% effectiveness at preventing nightly escapes.
I believe that Emily is a bit unique among NPC characters due to her being implemented earlier than the rest, so her escape event does not consider the possibility of being jailed. Cali's event at least considers whether she is in the jail when her escape event occurs. This is just speculation based on having read the code, but NPC events are not implemented consistently and I haven't gotten around to reworking them.

Thank you for the clarifications. I will be waiting for the future updates and fixes whenever that is, both in the 1st and 2nd games. Need to finish the 1st game first at least once though, lmao. I have been playing at least more than 20 times already, most of which lasted only a few days in due to role playing complications.

It's probably worth mentioning here that slaves can take health damage if they are very highly stressed and this can kill. This extreme situation is only likely to happen for newly captured slaves with exceptionally low health and exceptionally high stress. Such a slave will just be removed from the mansion if they die during end of day.

Yeah, I found that the hard way. At first, I had some bandits captured, thought it be nice to play as someone who was strick to hooligans or so. Thus, I punished them once I got back to the mansion. By the end of the day, two people died. I later found out by just healing them with a heal spell.
