I am interested in the jam but won't be available to participate.

Since jam lasts for 17 days, would it be acceptable if I work 2 weeks prior to the jam and limit myself to that time ?

I'll leave the topic open to discussion. But in reality nobody can stop you, lol, and there are people who will do this anyway. My advice would just be to make sure to state clearly that the game wasn't made during the jam time, but you still wanted to take part. And people can then make their own decision about it.

Jams, more than anything, are about community and seeing other peoples' ideas and interpretations evolve alongside yours. You'll miss that aspect, but on that note I'd ask you upload the game as near to the end of the deadline as you can. :)

I might be there the second week after all, so all good in the end :)
