good morning,

You can actually just make a big sprite. This one was on a 64x64 grid, I believe. Just make a big “battler” sprite with four columns and 9 rows and Paper Maker will do the rest.

New version uploaded. Thanks!

That tutorial PDF I made is right here.

let me update this game before you try and play it! It is broken and barely works in its current state.

Hello fellow gamers!

I have been really involved with an engine named RPG Paper Maker, and made this game for a game jam to showcase what it can do. The link is below. Voting for the game jam is still open, and I would be honored if you took a look, played, and left a comment or suggestion.

The theme for the jam is “Keep it Afloat.” With that in mind, I designed a game where you pilot a floating ship as the planet below is ravaged by an alien invasion. This game was finished in 30 days and will take maybe 60-90 minutes to complete.

Gameplay is your classic JRPG turn-based combat. Many of the sprites I drew myself. If you’re interested in making your own game, I can’t recommend RPG Paper Maker enough.

Thank you for reading! Link below.

Hello again!

I can confidently say I played this game for several hours. It’s good! There are a few things I’ll report n case you’d like to keep developing this adorable project.

-Make sure that Hero Action[] returns only the closest reaction. This will prevent the player from activating the sink and the cutting board at the same time. Go to Systems>Models>Hero, go to the Hero Action[] tab, double-click the Send Event command, and click the box  “return only the closest.”

-No customers order Rose tea

-Player can’t make Superior Ceylon tea- it says you have no leaves for it.

-After getting the fancy teas, when brewing, the top two teas of the lists are offscreen. Maybe separate it into three listsinstead of two.

-I missed a payment, and Ms. Shark started taking 0 gold a week instead of 100.

-Occasionally, the screen will go white. Can still move/interact, but can’t see. I think this is a screen tint command gone rogue. Happened several times in the kitchen.

-Occasionally I had trouble leaving the kitchen- kept hitting the door and warping back to the galley

-Book in the galley always says 7 days until Ms. Shark arrives.

-Player gets stuck entering fish market.

-Hard to leave bank. Leaving the bank puts the player on a square that asks “Go to bank?”

Thanks for making this game! I had fun.

First thing that happens when you graduate? Your mom kicks you out of the house. Points for realism. You owe money to a literal loan-shark-mermaid. Points for originality.

This is an excellent interpretation of the theme "Keeping it afloat." The cuteness makes up for the occasional errors, bugs, and collision mishaps. I’m looking forward to seeing more work on this!

The disappearing player bug seems to be caused by saving, quitting, and loading the save.

Hi Maple,

Enjoying this game so far. I found a few bugs mostly related to when Ms. Shark comes to collect the money for the first time.

First, I didn't have enough money, so I should have lost. It let me keep playing.

Second, there were some Show Picture commands (text boxes, i think) that never disappeared after meeting her. They hung around the rest of the game.

Third, at some point my character sprite disappeared. I could still interact with things, but suddenly I could go through walls too. Wish I knew what happened to cause it.

Way to go KevinOfNine and Chappie!

This is a unique RPG Paper Maker title, an action-RPG with elements I've never seen in this engine. For all its new features, I only had to quit and restart once (I got stuck when I dashed into the ocean).

Collect material! Craft! Dig! Lift logs! Slow time! Mine! Climb! Shield! Swing a sword! Dodge! Hide! Dash! And more!

The most fun parts were dashing everywhere and the sound the book made when you opened it.

I was killed by a mushroom.

tHIS WAS delightful. thanks.

I should have named the main character Hue.

There you go. Screen size is fixed. Just don't press esc in the elevator. Thanks for playing!

thanks for your post! I’ll be working on getting full screen out there- right now the engine RPG Paper Maker has a glitch where full screen games don’t go full screen. I’ll post here if/when it gets finished.

It's a little rough, and can't be finished. After I pick up the book and go to the right, there's a crash on the next map. I wish I could see this game finished, because the soundtrack rocks.

Sorry you’re having FPS troubles- that happened to me when I ran it full screen, but windowed always worked fine.

There is no camera rotation in this game.
Killing Bibi is optional, but encouraged.

Too cute.  Much h- ERROR 01111000000 1 HUMOR.exe to be found.

I don't want to admit how long it took me to figure out that it was "Z" and not "Enter" to start.

This is a great little showcase for the RPG Paper Maker engine. Proof-positive that RPM can handle exciting adventure games.

This guy submitted this game to competitions they didn't even read the rules for. BOOOOOOOO!

this game is pretty neat. You should play it.

There is zero story, and Lucas tells you to come back to buy upgrades and there’s nothing to buy.

10/10 would adventure again
