Hello all! We are the team of First Issue, a Superhero Turn Based RPG made in RPGMaker MZ. We've been working on this project for 5 months now, and as we increase our production speed, extra hands is appreciated. Our current team consists of a programmer / writer, Artist, Animator, and Music Composer / SFX. We are looking for a pixel artist to help with Tilesets, character art, character portraits, and really whatever else is needed.

Here is the concept art that has been made for the game so far, alongside the title screen, and some of the pixel art

We have an art bible, although it's somewhat incomplete. This is the general style that we are looking for.

Here's our character overview, detailing each character, and their associated team

And finally, the story of the game

Here's some animation examples from the animator

One made in aseprite (visualization before we properly make it)

An unused attack animation

An actual skill animation (was just shared with me today actually)

Gameplay wise, our battle scene is extremely unfinished right now. Our combat currently uses QTE's for each move, think Mario and Luigi style, where if you input the correct button at the correct time, you deal more damage. You can also parry enemy attacks, negating it. (It was mainly inspired by the parrying of Lies of P, but evolved into something more akin to Expedition 33, despite none of us playing the game. It just looks really cool.)

Here's some gameplay clips... as you can tell, very much a WIP

The UI, however, is mostly complete there. You can also see some WIP animations by our lovely animator. We use rigged animations, then port them to spritesheets. If you have experience making battle VFX, that would be amazing, but obviously not a requirement. (ALL The chibi guys are RPGMaker stock assets, and not actually our own assets. Same for the guy with the sword. Please refer to the art bible for the actual artstyle.)

Here's the hub theme for the game, made by our composer

^We have a couple other songs done right now, but this is one of the most important. Our composer also makes SFX for us sometimes!

We attempted to find a pixel artist 3 months ago, but he just went MIA on us like a month in, and didn't really make much, so we would appreciate someone who is open to communication and if this project isn't for you, just let us know!

This game is one of passion and love, and if this seems to match your vibe then please dm me either on reddit, or on discord (which we use for the game), my username is .verypeachy on there (don't forget the dot!)

We would have a small entrance test, just making like a tree and a grass tile.

Have a nice day! - VeryPeachy

Hey yall, just making a quick post about a game that I just released, A TRANSFormative Night. Loosely based off of I night I spent with some friends. Honestly just posting here because most of my other games are for game jams, and this is the first project I've made just for myself. I had a lot of fun working with the colors of this one, as every asset other than the two main characters are pink. Helps add some neat contrast I think.

My main motivation for creating the game was when I first heard the song Entropy by Beach Bunny, which I added at the end of the game as a sort of credits theme.

(Not the best screenshot of the game, but should get the point somewhat across. Ignore the amateurish art, I'm still learning lol)

Here's the link if anyone's interested: https://verypeachy1.itch.io/a-transformative-night

Yep! Proud MZ user!

Alrighty. Shouldn't be an issue anymore!

Thanks! I’ll do a post-jam patch tonight. Was it just the items box that had a bug attached to it?

Yeah, the screen is really large. I’ll add a full screen!

Oh sick, thanks! I'll totally check that out

I understand this is an annoying thing to ask during a game jam, but while I know my game will be done before the deadline, I don't know if I'll have the time to make a nice itch.io page. Would it be too much to ask for just one more hour?

Hi [your_name_here]. You have to check out this game. It's the most innovative platformer I've played in years.

Hey yall!

Essentially I have a little team going with an artist, composer, and I. The artist has a job, so he can only work after his job, so for the game to be completed in about a year, year and a half's time. So, I come here looking for a second artist / animator to help us out! You can be more than an animator as well, being a collaborator with everyone else, crafting the story, making superheroes, level design, etc. Whatever floats your boat. We are doing this out of passion, with a side incentive for pay, so this is a revshare project.

Anyways, onwards to the actual game!

Welcome to 1st Issue (Logo lovingly made by the artist), an Action RPG trying to poke fun at and appreciate superheroes and comic culture.

Gameplay

The core gameplay is a combo-driven ARPG, where you can mix and match superpowers to create your ideal superhero. Fight against multiple villians, some quirky and others more serious. Work with mentors to learn new powers, and beat up those who oppose your heroic quest!

Story

Beacon, the most powerful superhero in the world, has successfully imprisoned every single villain, with the help of The Alliance of Heroes. With that, Beacon decided to leave earth to help other planets in need. In her absence, her rival Percival Powers breaks out every single villian. Everything goes to chaos, as the MC of the game has to put on the suit and take care of Beacon's rouge gallery.

Meanwhile, Night Lurker, Beacon's partner, is dealing with the reality of the chaos of when every villain is let loose, in a more serious and grounded subplot.

(Also, each Mentor has their own story! Think of it like a C plot that you unlock whenever you return to the hub to gain new powers, buy weapons, etc. Mentors are the other superheroes in this world. We've come up with some fun ones, but you can help us design more!)

Artstyle

You can kinda see the artstyle that we have for the game below, at least how characters will look. What we have planned is that when the game is serious, then it looks like a comic from the 80's - 90's (Think Watchmen). When gameplay is happening, or when something more goofy is happening, it's pixel art.

What we got so far

This is what we have so far. The UI is not done at all, let me clear. Very placeholder-ish. Alongside this doesn't show the animations we have. We've just been working a lot on game feel, getting basic animations made with our little rainbow guy, and coming up with the game in a GGD! And you can be a part of this too!

Hey, you! Are you interested??

If you are, then we would love to have you!! To contact me, please dm .verypeachy on discord. (The dot at the front is important.)

Thanks a lot for looking at this! Have a nice day!

Hey y’all, I’m VeryPeachy (Or known as Sobbleboi323 sometimes), and I’m an RPGMaker developer + amateur artist looking for a second artist for a project I’m just starting. I want this to be a collaboration between two people, as past projects I’ve been the lead, and I felt like I needed some support when it comes to coming up with ideas for specific events, level design, etc. I’m looking for pixels artists, as I also make pixel art so it would be easier to split the workload. (I must say, I’m not the best artist of all time, but I can totally draw props for smaller stuff.)

I should say that I’m a broke student, so unfortunately I must resort to Revshare. I know there is usually a lot of concern around joining a Revshare project, but I can assure you that I’m very dedicated to my craft, and I hope you are too!

I came up with a general concept of a mostly satirical game about Superheroes, on the smaller scope of about 6 - 10 hours of gameplay. My main inspiration is Felvidek for that kind of vibe. I really want to do something akin to an action rpg, as my last project was a turn based RPG, so I’m kind of burnt out with that genre.

Here’s a “GGD” I drafted up that goes a bit more in depth if this sounds somewhat interesting: (It also has some of my art!) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a2dK_C08LieH65gtQDYVSNEQFQiTrBG_dZ7D0M98hKg/edit?tab=t.0

And here’s my portfolio, it’s mostly my goofy game jams, and then my last project, Winterbourne. I would highly suggest checking that out to see the full extent of my skills, although that is an old demo from about 6 months ago. Many placeholders will be there. https://spencerrc.itch.io/

Thanks for taking the time to look at this post, and if you want to join this collaboration and make a game in around a year, just DM me or reply to this! I really wish I could pay someone, y’know, it’s expensive for talent. (DM me @ thatonegamedev_23 on discord if you want to do that, it's my alt account)

I really hope ya make this a full game! I had quite a fun time with it, and the combat was difficult but super meaty. Loved it!

Might as well throw in Winterborne, which is a bit more than a year into development right now, steam page is coming soon, and will probably be done within a year or so. It's a Nordic Inspired soulslike turn-based RPG (A lot to unpack there I know). Our artist (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/vbZP4a) has been amazing, but is looking for some support on the honestly massive to-do list for wrapping up the demo, and we've been looking for a second artist with a similar style to yours. (Other people's portfolios: Composer: https://www.dimitrioskmusic.com/ and I: https://spencerrc.itch.io/). It's a lot of technical art, but after we finish up Act 1 / the demo (3 Acts in total) you really get to do whatever you want art wise. We can promise you Revshare and a finished game to slap your name on. (Also I wouldn't mind the help with story / characters, and beta testers are always in need! Ya get practically total creative control over what you make if that helps) So, if you're somewhat interested, just let me know! Here's the game to download if you do care: https://spencerrc.itch.io/winterborne. I hope you find the project that fits for you, and it's completely fine if this isn't the project! Have a great day!

[This is Revshare! We're more than a year into development. You get 1/5 of the game's profit, portfolio work ofc, and you get creative freedom on like, everything you make.]

Pretend this is in a steryotypical announcer's voice

HEY YOU!!! YES, YOU!!!! DO YOU LIKE HARD RPG'S??? HAND-DRAWN ART???? ENTERING A PROJECT MORE THAN 1 YEAR IN DEVELOPMENT WHILE STILL HAVING TONS OF INFLUENCE OVER HOW THE GAME IS MADE?????

BOY (Or girl or none of the above)DO I HAVE THE JOB FOR YOU!!!

Alrighty - here's the groups portfolio:

One Amazing Artist!! (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/vbZP4a) (You can check out the art tagged for Winterborne to see how cool and awesome our game looks)

One Fantastic Composer!! (https://www.dimitrioskmusic.com/

One Stupendous Game Designer / Writer!! (https://spencerrc.itch.io/) (Winterborne is actually here!)

One (Oh god I ran out of adjectives) Level Designer!! (No portfolio)

Just need one more artist.... (The game is more serious than I am. The way I'm writing here is mostly for my entertainement.)

Anyways, the game is set in a 1920's Steampunk Norway, while Ragnarok takes place. It's up to Melanie Bjerke, the Winterborne, to go and save it. However, as you get further into your quest, you start to question whether the gods are morally correct. And if you were being used in the process... It's a Soulslike Turn-Based RPG that is a decently hard game. I would suggest you download the game here to play it for yourself! (No mac or web support folks, sorry) https://spencerrc.itch.io/winterborne (WARNING!!!: This is a beta. Tons of placeholders. The sprite for one of the characters is just used as a stand-in for bosses (The githyanki woman). It may softlock or crash. Still working on all that and more)

We're looking for an artist who can have a somewhat similiar artstyle to Jameel, our first artist. Doesn't need to be exact ofc. Just trying to keep the style somewhat consistent.

How to contact, if interested: Just DM me on discord, or reply to this!. (.verypeachy on discord) A portfolio would be appreciated. Or just ask me questions about the game. Or my cat. idc

Have a nice day! Thanks a ton for taking the time to look at this silly lil' post.

Lepin Man flies high in heaven, before eventually being called back down to earth to help darth blue do his taxes

there’s a gay dinosaur in this game, if that isn’t a reason to play idk what is

That’s the best way to describe it lol

Thanks a ton lol, glad ya enjoyed it!

The artstyle was honestly just me messing around in aseprite trying to make the worst looking faces I could, and somehow they became the most expressive.

Oh and the gay dinosaur came to me in a dream

Hey, we all gotta start somewhere! I wish you the best of luck on your game dev journey :)

This is the unintentionally funniest game I've ever played

I poopoo peepee my pants.

Thanks! The button does get better - don't worry. He just has some stuff to work through.

thanks! I knew many other people were going for one button gameplay, so I just came up with the weirdest possible concept I could think of

Ay thanks! Wasn’t expecting the host of the game jam to comment - thanks for making this jam!

Thanks! I appreciate the compliment!

Cute little game, very solid for a first game! Good job!

The bard may perform in the dark, but in his soul he is playing in front of an audience of millions.

(I'll probably release a patch fixing some bugs in a day or so, the monk and bard are the most technical and thus the most buggy. Thanks for playing!)

Thanks!

that’s a really solid time! Good job!

I personally used RPGMaker (As it was a fun challenge for myself) (Also shameless plug here play my game), and I was just wondering what game engines you all used, I think it would be neat to see the varying answers.
