Hello all,
Hope everyone is doing great! I was wondering if you could help me figure out what would be a good length for a game that has 30 days to complete. I know on most game jams, usually a game that lasts 5-6mins are great, but given we have much more time here, should that still apply, or this is to try to make a much more full-length game(like maybe around 1hr long)? I just wanna have an idea on what to shoot for. Given there is a lot of time, would love to try and participate here
Thank you so much for playing! Yeah, I should've tried with checkpoints. The thing is, I wanted this game to be a bit more focused on speedrunning in a way, but ended up just making it a bit unfair. After the jam is over, I am planning on adding checkpoints on the "normal" mode, as well as refill motivation meter after level completion. The "hard" mode will be the one with no refill after each level and no checkpoints.
It is really awesome isn't it! The asset I used was this one: https://muchopixels.itch.io/character-animation-asset-pack
The animations are super smooth and nice!
Thank you so much for playing! And yeah, checkpoints was something I wanted to avoid initially because I wanted this to be a more of speedrunning game. However, one thing I did not take into account was accessibility, as some players may just love platforming, but not too frustrating as to be very punishable. That is a great idea that I will add once the jam is over. Thank you!
Thank you so much, that comment means a lot!! I will probably continue developing it a bit more, as there were a few more ideas I wanted to include, but was not able to due to the time. Some of the art was done using pre-made assets. Do you think there would be anything wrong with publishing a game with that(assuming the license for said assets allows it)?
This was a very fun game. I did have a few issues when trying to talk to the customers on the tables, or maybe it was just me. Like, whenever I tried to talk from above or below, it wouldn't initiate, and I had to like get inside the table to actually be able to talk. Other than that, game was really fun and I really enjoyed it. I also liked the occasional birds with existential crisis that would come lol
Thank you for playing! I was definitely thinking of adding chekpoints, but I wanted to make it challenging. I do think that I may have made it a bit unfair, considering one failure could may as well mean to start all over. After the game jam is over, I will adjust the normal mode to have checkpoints, and have the hard mode have none.
I really appreciate the feedback, and once again, thanks for playing!
Absolutely loved it! I am a bit of a Jump King enjoyer myself lol Like someone else mentioned, it had that Jump King x Celeste vibe. I love platformers, and even more if they are challenging. I also really liked the music and ambiance. Would have been neat to have a timer so you can speedrun it and see how long it took you to complete.
Man, I really enjoyed this one. The visuals are stunning and the gameplay was really fun. As someone who is into breeding mechanics(like in Ark Survival Evolved or Pokemon), I liked the mechanic to breed 2 birds so you can get access to stronger feathers. One thing I did notice that I had a few issue with, whenever I was a bit close to clouds(not like super close, but somewhat close), my projectiles just disappeared, so I couldn't fully defend the ship. Other than that, everything worked well. I am following this and hoping you update it(I did notice you have an option for other weapons there). Good stuff! :D
Thank you so much! It was a really fun experience, and has motivated me to keep going on this game dev journey!
lol after the game jam, Ill make an easy mode. My problem here was that, since I love challenging platforming, I made a game based on that. I should learn to also keep in mind those that don't usually play these type of games. I had a few friends complained also about the difficulty, so this was definitely my fault.
Once again, thank you so much for playing!
Lol the jumpscares got me real good. I really enjoyed the game. I did notice that "The Watcher" appeared only once in the 5th night, but after I died to it, it never appeared again. Not sure if it was intentional or not.
Overall, I really had fun, and it definitely took me a few tries to finish it. Good stuff!
Thank you for playing and for your feedback!
Yeah, I wanted to try and introduce them by adding text around prominent places(sorta like how the first one shows controls, the second one shows you need to be in focus mode to make the block solid), but perhaps that wasn't the best approach. I am really new to level design, so I did my best to make it straight-forward lol
Once again, thank you so much! Good luck to you too!! This was definitely a fun and great experience!
