In this jam, I used GDevelop, which might be worth adding to your list.
It’s a very beginner friendly no-code / low-code game engine built on JavaScript and rendered with PixiJS, but coding is completely optional. I made my jam game, along with my previous released games, entirely in GDevelop without writing a single line of code. I mainly use its extensions and visual event system.
It’s a full visual game engine with both 2D and 3D support. Its biggest strengths are how easy it is to learn, how quickly you can prototype, and how powerful its 2D capabilities are. The 2D possibilities feel almost limitless.
Its 3D support is also improving very quickly. For example, they recently added real-time spotlights and point lights with shadows, which is exciting to see.
Performance is another big reason I like it. It runs smoothly on my PC, unlike heavier engines like Unity, which tends to lag a lot for me. Along with Scratch, it’s one of the few engines that works really well on my setup.
It’s honestly been the best way for me to make games, so I thought it might be a good addition to your catalog, maybe under Beginner-friendly engines or No-code / visual game engines.
Thanks for playing :D Many people have been reporting the intense screen shake and menu flickering effects and I have already made fixes for it and a slider and toggle option to disable or to tone down the intensity but however, I can't update during the voting period... After the jam, I will release the new update and I am trying to keep this game alive and release as a full game in the future!! And again, Thanks for playing!!!
Great work right here dude but the steering is tooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow like why does it takes 3-4 business days to do a 360 steering? but I would have forgiven that you can use space as handbrake and thus using that, you can drift with your lawnmower like just imagine how cool would that be!! and combined with infinite world rather than just a fixed place and some biomes like desert where you need to avoid big cactuses while cutting through oasis and sometimes nothing, forest with bigger bushes and ferns and the normal yard as this and new enemy types and missile launching tractors which hunt you down after you reach some amount of wealth like 500k like this is just soo goofy but that will be fun as hell!!
Btw, this is my final score!!
here you go:) https://www.youtube.com/@tripoly_official_456
and btw I used to upload some Nuclear Throne gaming contents in the past but I didn't start uploading game devlogs yet...
This was my 3rd game jam and my first and the second one was submitted on GDevelop big game jam #7 and #8 even though the second one wasn't able to play like the file was broken but this time, I planned ahead like what I wanted this game to be so when the clock started ticking, I started to make my vision and I continued it for 4-5 days and I totally forgot about the theme cuz I was focused on game feel and juice, sfx and visuals and enemy variety and content and then I just checked the Gamedev.js jam page and that is when I saw the theme!! My game wasn't at all related to theme, Machine so I made a BOSS called The Machine and added some gears, a facility lore where you enter the building, escape security, finds the key to the lobby and destroy the machine and I made a survival mode(endless) to keep the game fresh with upgrades and new 2 exclusive enemies and an amazing difficulty curve in my opinion and a leaderboard where it calculates total kills and ranks based on the highest and you can change your name in the menu, unlock new weapons and etc like I focused on making the game feel smooth, polished and just satisfying!! And I think I was able to create that feeling :)
Here's my game: GUNGLASSES
Played and Rated it, amazing game and btw, here's my game!!
GUNGLASSES
The game is AMAZING!!! The art itself is so cool man and somehow I get hotline vibes from the pixel art (idk why) but the character movement is stiff but the animation is smooth as butter like how did you make all that transitions and stuff like that itself is just impressive and the variety of enemies and their own uniqueness, you nailed it!! every single one, PERFECTLY!!! 10/10 and shoutout to the art and animation again :) its soo cool man!!
Thanks soo much man!! and I think comparing this with Enter the Gungeon is one of the highest praise that I can ever get!! I will be continuing development and now I am working on minor accessibility features and polish it more and make it more professional to release as a free demo and then work on my game while posting devlogs on youtube until the official release!!
Binding of Issac (newton)!!! Clever puzzles, sfx are amazing and the mechanics like how did you fit this many into this one small game??????????????????? HUGE W game dude!! You've nailed it!!! But keeping the web game resolution to the default itch.io page should have been better but overall, this is da real art!!
I am really glad that you enjoyed your time playing my game!! Yeah I will focus more on these story and I wasn't able to deliver the story and the relation with the theme "Machines" correctly but I will update this game after jam and make it much better with more clear purpose and better environmental storytelling and more content if possible!!
Yeah I totally forgot about the theme at first but the core part was already done like the player movement and some enemies and after 3-4 days, I remembered there is a theme and I implemented it but you missed it! The texts at the bottom of every level, read them and you will understand what's happening and the last boss's name is "The Machine" and the text says destroy the machine and that's the end goal of the game. Its subtle but I could have done better like I just forgot about that! and thanks for your kind words dude!!! I will try to make the goal clearer after the jam and expand the game further until to an actual game release!!
Thanks for that such great compliment!!! Yeah already planned on keep working on this after jam like some small settings that many asked like screen shake slider, menu flicker slider and some alternative fire buttons, then more improvements to story mode and chapter based levels, more weapons and new type of upgrade system and characters and all like the list is looong. I am ready to make this game and bring it to top level!! Wish me luck!!and yeah, Thanks :D
