Made a typo in the description. You typed SFG instead of SGF :D

Hey! Thanks for the Update! Found a little typo:

Mm. My brother often says I'm petite.

A nice little story. I like the images created for this, they look good and fit together. I also like the dialogue about not spending your money in places with human rights violations. It's a topic that's very dear to my heart.

Feedback:

  • Add more branching/different paths. It's really linear and Ren'Py offers so many possibilities with its engine that are unutilized here.
  • You said no Nudity/Pornography. That's fine, it's your game and your choice. And even though there are some heavy topics covered here, there's no reason for an Adult rating, imho. Gamers searching with this tag want to see at least something.
  • Furthermore, the characters do not interact with each other. At least the kissing scenes should/could be displayed. There's too much happening off-screen for what's essentially a visual novel.
  • While there are descriptions of time passing, it doesn't feel like it. Weeks later the Farm looks the same, and the characters are wearing the same outfit. The cars get repaired, but are still dusty.
  • He speaks of falling in love in what feels like five minutes. While there certainly is love at first sight, neither character is fleshed out enough to make it feel organic/realistic. Just being gay is not enough to fall in love. What's so special about the other?
  • I also never could figure out who was who. Different characters could use different font colors to distinguish them better.
  • The question about the grandpa dying in the house seems really off. Why would he think and ask that? I think most people would be taken aback or get defensive when a complete stranger asks them this question.
  • The side-story about his Ex is also very bare. I never got the feeling that he was as dangerous as he tried to make him out to be.

Take care!

Well, that works for me. I'm used to being either welcomed or totally ignored by devs for pointing out bugs. But after years working as a software tester I grew a hard shell.

Regarding the dialogue:

In this screen I can choose (I think) if I wanna have some Small talk or Get to know Zac better? Or are both things happening at once?

Thanks for the update! Something I like is how the mouse cursor changes into the play button during video sequences. Really clever and helps the player to figure out when the vid is done.

Some small bugs I found:

Typo: instructtons

Typo: charakter

Brian's name now shows up correctly, but his status is Bekannter.

Also during the date with Zac the dialogue switches to German again.

One more thing I wanted to ask: How does the dialogue system work? When I chose a topic do they talk about both of them or just one? I'm little bit confused about that.

Thanks again!

Interesting concept. It clearly needs some more work, but I think it has great potential. It's more of a game than just another VN, which is a nice change of pace.

Some bugs I found:

There's a problem with the display of Brian's name:

The "Unknown" bar is not correctly aligned.

Here, some of the game dialogue switched to German. It is my system's default language, but this doesn't appear anywhere else in the game. No idea why this is happening.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this game!

Take care.

I can understand that, creating images does take time and drives up the project's cost. I do, however, believe that some background images would sell the prototype a little bit better to the general audience.

Thanks for answering my questions. Now I have a better understanding of the project. Looking forward to the next release!

Interesting concept, I am really intrigued by the story and the characters. You certainly do have a knack for writing.

Few questions though:

  • Will you add more images? It's mostly black background or some character in front of a black background.
  • The game tag suggests a Female Protagonist, is it really though? At least in this first version nothing hints towards it. Maybe it's both female and male?
  • Is there a reason why you named the project Thalassaphilia? The equivalent, Thalassophobia, is spelt with and o.

I'll be looking forward to more content!

Before the second scene ends there's an error message:

Could not find label scene 5 end.

Just letting you know!

Love the game very much. Do you plan on continuing the development, or is it on hold?

Thank you so much. Took me three tries, but I eventually made it.

Thanks again!

Thanks for your response!

I have the Fast Build III and did use the drone. Maybe my rotation is not right. I never really got the hang of this combat system (not anyone's fault but my own, I am bad at combat in general). I always try to be as defensive as possible, using Defend and Regroup as much as I can, because once you hit 0 Energy it's over. I can manage to get the Wolf to like 600, maybe 580 HP, but by then my Energy hits 0 in the next attack and boom I'm dead!

So I am stuck at the Wolf in Chapter 3. I chose the Alf-Build, have everything from war supplies, power, etc. Yet I can't defeat the ancient. Can someone help me please? I bought all the Chapters here on itch and don't wanna spend more money to gain discord access. If somebody can guide me through this, I'd appreciate it (I really do suck at this combat thing). Thank you so much!

End of Demo Storyline

So I have reached the end of the demo storyline and I have to say I am intrigued! To be fair the quest to find the drug to recover from his memory loss was a bit hard, but mostly because I was a bit stupid. I did not find that security card for half an hour. Only after I searched everything again I did manage to find it, it's hidden pretty well.

The test subject was a nice story twist and I really liked what you did with it. I could not fight him, way to powerful, but I guess that was an intentional design choice of yours. I did not encounter any bugs with this quest.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the storyline.

---

That being said I did some side quests I still had open and did encounter some bugs. There's this quest line of the carbon syndicate, it worked out fine, but after you defend the warehouse the initial quest giver reappears again right by the Marksmans gun range and gives you the same quest (to defend the warehouse) again. Or at least he tries to because it didn't appear in my quest log.

Oh, and Gordon died during the defending of the warehouse and I revived him, but his sprite was nowhere to be seen. He dealt damage tough.

Before that you have to test the gun on an old man. Something is wrong with the camera movement when you get into the fight with him. The camera pans up, and you don't see anything anymore:

I was able to defeat him but was a bit confused as to where my characters were. I just pressed the up arrow a few times, and they reappeared.

And last but not least I found a minor spelling error:

I have to reiterate again that I love your work and what you try to do here. It really got me involved into the story and the whole dystopian cyberpunk world and did inspire me to create a game of my own, just for fun.

Keep up the good work, and I'll play around with the demo some more to finish some more side quests and explore this open world.

Fighting invisible robots was definitely not intended!

I sure hope we never have to fight invisible robots IRL in the future :D

Every time I think I squashed all the errors and bugs, more crop up. Such is the life of a lone developer making an open world game. I'll keep fixing them as they are discovered! I really appreciate your note taking.

I feel you. I have been a software tester for five years, I know the grind. I'll take further notes and keep you updated. I really look forward to the full game. What recourses did you use, btw? Did you make all the artwork yourself?

It just crashed the first time, the second time I could finish it. My theory is that the Full-screen-Mode is to blame. I play the game all the time in Full-screen but make my screenshots in windowed mode because for some reason I can't make screenshots of the game in Full-screen.

I think the crashes before battles have something to do with the Full-Window Mode (F5) because they never appear when I play the game in the normal, small window mode. I'm not sure though. I'll keep you posted.

I have currently finished the second part of the main story line and I bought myself some nice cyberimplants. See my next post for further details.

(1 edit)

So after finishing the second part of the main story line I have some feedback to give to you:

The Sewer Mission is really fun, and it took me four tries to finish it. Unfortunately it seems like, that the intended feature of using three network cards to send the robots to the storage area does not work as planned. You see, they do disappear, but you still have to fight them. Here you can see I am about to disable them:

Then they are gone:

But *poof* the fight starts anyway:

As I said it wasn't that difficult to fight them, but I don't think this works as intended.

Then there's the basement level where you need to get out within 5 seconds. Boy oh Boy, I tried that segment about eight times before I made it. I guess you intended for it to be redone over and over again?

I also found some minor spelling errors during this quest line, most of them at the end of it.

Lastly there's a side quest called Two sides of the story were a name is spelled wrong. Found this to be rather amusing though.

As promised before I'll update again soon.

There's an event in this shop when you first enter where three thugs fight you. If you pick the first option in the dialogue that leads to the fight the game crashes, but if you try one of the answers that require skills (which I don't have) the fight begins with no problems.

Hello there!

I played your game for about an hour and I have to say, I really like it. The music, the ambience, the map, the buildings, it's perfect.

That being said, and knowing it's still in active development, I wanted to give some feedback on the errors I found:

The game unexpectably and without warning crashes when:

  • I tried to fight the thugs in the main story line quest
  • I tried to fight some thugs on Dawson Street who wanted to shoot up a robot

The first crash appeared when we were both in the party, but Gordon only had half of his HP.

The second one just appeared when we tried to fight these thugs to let the robot life.

I did not play any further than this but will keep you posted if I find any more.

Once again, I love what you've done and hope that I someday can play the whole game.

Well as much as I am informed you pay for the beta version and that's it. Every update will be added to your game for free and once the game is fully released you'll get just another update, also for free.
