log #2

aA sorry for not posting anything for a while, the art aspects took a lot long than I expected but I did get a lot done!

I've finished the sprites for the main characters of the story and gotten some to move! But I still need to finish sprites for some of the monsters and villagers!

Currently I'm drawing the sprites for the battling feature and hopefully some bust or icons for the characters!

I have been playing around with plugins and other system events such as animating static enemies and changing layouts of screens! Here I tested out animating the enemies but I couldn't upload the gif for it,,

That's all I have for right now. Hopefully once I finish the art for the game, everything else should be pretty easy.

Thank you for reading! ヽ(・∀・)ノ

Hello everyone! I'm Blu and this will be my first game jam! I'm making a RPG Maker MV game called Reign of Beast! I'm going to mainly be focusing on the concept art, sprites, and story script first before I get into the events, plugins and mapping since the art aspects my take the longest. I won't get very far into the story but hopefully I will have enough time to include at least the base of it. I'm really excited to participate and see everyone's games as well!

I'll most likely be updating this post as well as adding logs to include a more detailed story, bios and add more concept art as I go along but here are some basic notes so far!

Reign of Beast

CONCEPT

The game is based on a fantasy, semi-modern setting and is a play on the tradition RPG stories where typical RPG enemies such as slimes, orcs, and other monsters battle to reign as the new Overlord of the entire kingdom. When the previous one allegedly perishes to "the heroes". You play as the "dead" Overlord dragon trying beat all of the monster's leaders and regain your lost title by any dastardly means possible. You are playing as the villain after all!

CHARACTERS

I'm still writing down bios to all of the characters that I will add but I did make a few concept sketches for some of them!

I'm not going to use this art style for the actual game, its mostly just a simple reference for when I make the larger scaled art

I've also made some sketches for a few of the monsters in the game as well!

GAMEPLAY FEATURES
  • Simple Turn-Based Combat
  • Friendship/Relationship System
  • Energy System
  • Morality System
  • Conquesting System

GOALS FOR NOW
  • Finish at least two chapters of the game demo, one for introduction to the story and the other having a boss and "ending"
  • Finish making sprites and character busts for the important characters for the game
  • Leave detailing until final touch ups (I have a bad habit of adding details while creating haha,,)

There's a lot of things I need to fine tune but I'll fix them as the jam goes on!

Thank you so much for reading!! (*´▽`*)╯

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hello! I go by Blu or Vamp, it's nice to meet you all! I am a soon-to-be junior and I'm aiming for a degree in Game Design and/or Game Art!

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I could not participate in the last game jam due to being busy with school work. I feel that this will help hone my programming abilities and get a jump start on my field of study!

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

My personal favorite games are in the RPG or Simulation genres, but any games that focus more into story and the cast of characters with a hint of comedy always draw me in! A few examples are Disgaea, Harvest Moon, Fire Emblem, A few Tales of series, Blazblue, Ni no Kuni and so forth!

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I've played around with RPGMaker VX, VXAce and MV as well as a little bit of Game Maker. I used these engines mostly to get a feel of basic programming understanding and creating certain events to occur.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

I'm really passionate about creating stories and different worlds for them! I've always wanted to make something that I can share with others to make them happy!
