Wow, that's exciting!! I'd like to be able to show my friends & acquaintances the game system but with a SFW version of it. My main question though-- how would you incorporate Charisma into the combat system without the use of NSFW elements. Would you be able to parley and stop combat that way?

For me personally, the combat of ToA is it's primary draw, moreso than the content, even. I find that most turn-based RPGs are far to simple for my tastes, and so we can agree that the game's combat system has a far higher degree of complexity than most turn-based rpg combat systems.

There are several things I like about it:

  • Each stance keeps the number of options that you have moment-to-moment relatively limited, while at the same time allowing for a lot of different moves.
  • What is most effective in combat depends on how your character is built, which blends the JRPG style mechanics and the WRPG style mechanics seamlessly.
  • All 6 attributes are meaningfully baked into how the game is played, allowing you to have multiple unique playstyles & meaningful choice.
  • I actually find stance-driven combat to be more intuitive as a martial artist than non-stance-based combat systems. 
  • As a rouge-lite RPG, the game's difficulty actually feels fair to me-- fair the way that X-com's hardest difficulty mode is fair. I don't want or expect the game to be unfair in my favor. 
  • Each level up offers me a linear increase in my character's power-level, which I appreciate a lot. Each level requires the same amount of experience points as each previous level, which I also appreciate.
  • It feels meaningful to choose between saving up my points for more powerful abilities/upgrades and spending a lesser amount to broaden my horizons. 
  • The turn-based nature of the game allows me to go at my own pace with it, which I appreciate.
  • Furthermore, the turn-based nature of the combat system means that Hiro's skill-level or ability to overcome challenges is based on how Hiro is built mechanically, rather than my technical skill as the player, which helps me immerse myself in the Role-Play.
  • I particularly like how the amount of strategic information that you, the player, have to work with depends on Hiro's perception level. (It's an intelligence/wisdom stat that actually makes the character feel intelligent/wise.)

Honestly, I'd really like to see a game like this but without it being NSFW just so I can share it with more people. 

Help I can't find the double jump or the wall climb thing, I only found the dash.

aaaa I really like radiant burst, it really suits my preferred playstyle (without feeling _too_ powerful, i suppose? I mean fireblast is straight 3 damage and way less complicated to play for the same cost)

I've won again and it's pretty cool how the game keeps track of your playtimes for you for speedrunning records!!!

Honestly there's so much more to this game besides just the gameplay-- not only is taking the basic structure and coming up with all sorts of ways to play with the rules in order to come up with cards a lot of work (and theming those cards for this game a lot of work too,), but-- your use of color in this game is really good, you make the most of the limited color pallet to make a game that feels almost retro but also not. I counted a black, a white, a grey, a red, a blue, a teal-green, a yellow-orange, a dark magenta, a dark blue, and a brown? And they're used super well and convey a lot of information (without being relied on to the exclusion of colorblind people!) The aesthetic feels kind of grungy to me? Which, I really like. Oh, and the music... it does a really really good job at conveying tone and theming and it just feels nice to listen to, if kind of spooky? 

The story is really interesting, the characters and creatures are all really unique... I like how it has 3 different boss fights so it doesn't feel repetitive to win. Most games don't have this kind of re-play value... (which I mean is fine I am an undertale fan after all!) so I really appreciate it. The value per dollar is pretty high to me (I'm broke so that's pretty important!) I really like how games are fast-- I don't have time to play videogames for more than 20 minutes or so at a time; i really like that even my longest playtimes are within that window. It feels like a game that doesn't waste any time. 

The coding seem 2 be really good since it takes up relatively little disc space and runs smoothly even on my glorified word processor. Like it's a nice game all around?

oh omg I already beat the game 3 times now and I'm having trouble thinking of it-- if I knew you were going to ask that question I would have taken a screenshot. I think the first time I beat the game I used a lot of things that enhanced my ability to shield myself and attack, like shields up, shield bash, and the one that gives your shield thorns, along with forge?? Also venomous bite, volley, healing rain, health potion. Extra attack cards, meditate, full moon, corrupted aether. In later games I got a lot better at using combos and prioritized flexibility.

I tend to play really defensively in most games so I struggle sometimes to get enough damaging cards in my hands. At one point I had to give up because I got call of the void early and I couldn't get enough damage cards going, and eventually my hand filled up with shield spells and my enemy couldn't damage me or do anything. So I had to concede. It was really silly.

edit: oh omg and necrotic blast-- it's so useful!! It's kind of hard to time since you need like 3 AP at the start of your turn to really use it to its full potential but it's a lot of fun, especially chained with fire blast. I really like how well-tuned the difficulty is and it feels kind of fair? That's actually the reason I tend to prefer rougelite games or hardcore modes-- a lot of other games feel really unfair in favor of the player, and it feels like the game is just letting me win. I think my favorite card is probably seance. Edit 2: turns out it's actually radiant burst!

Wow!! I already beat it!!! It only took me 7 tries!! Thanks for making this game, it was really challenging but really easy to learn at the same time.

After playing 13 different runs of signs of the sojourner, I'm really excited to try another novel card game format. I found this game while trawling the rougelike tag and I bought it right away. I'm really excited!

I hope it's good, but this sort of game concept is so my jam that I'll like it even if it's bad. I just downloaded it and I'm really excited to play!

the main solution i would think of is to let you turn off the screen effect where the camera zooms in and out during combat. That's the biggest issue for me. It should be as simple as flagging the animation(s?) and letting you toggle them in the options menu, i would think?

no dude i have epilepsy. its not actually normally an issue with video games but most of the video games i play are better animated. i was trying to be nice about it

before i download this game, i would like to know -- are there options that let you turn certain animations off? 

the animations that are present even just viewing them from the thumbnail look like they're pulsing, and it can give me ocular migraines. if turning off animations aren't an option that i can tick in the settings menu, i might not be able to play this game.

It's a valid point of criticism?
Like I don't actually think this myself, since I like having interesting discussions, but...
"if you don't like this review, why did you leave a negative comment on it?"

purrsonally, I don't think it's about being better or being worse at talking to people, although I haven't played this game. One thing I have noticed in my actual real life is that often I just... grow as a person. And that people don't grow, sometimes, or they grow apart from you. I don't want to have to stagnate to maintain a friendship with someone. I don't want to have to copy someone else's personality to be friends with them.

I'm just annoyed and hoping you don't take it too personally -- it's okay to leave negative or mixed reviews on a game. No matter what game it is. It's okay to express your feelings even if you don't understand them or others find them disagreeable. That is why I am hoping you don't take this too personally -- your feelings are including when I say this: everyone's feelings matter.

That being said I am not one of those people who thinks everyone's feelings are automatically valid or like what the ... beep... ever.... sometimes your feelings are not valid i guess. i don't know you well enough to actually assess that so im just guessing.

also the part where you were like all "i have a great relationship with elias and im meeting all of my shop expectations. its definitely possible" came across as... how do i put this. dismissive? bragging, and not the fun kind?

also like it's okay to be sheltered. parents are... parents are supposed to do that. i figure if the world actually is cold and hard and cruel then like,,, your family and friends are supposed to be warm and soft and nice? to make up for it?
