"Do u also remember what the last 2 non-restored objects in the Lagoon do?"
the WIP artifact in the ruins was a button that opened the gates, i decided to leave the gates open till its functional again.
and the paddle was used to open the closed gate at the top of the waterfall.
all WIP objects are being put on hold because it requires a massive amount of effort making their cutscenes functional again, its just a priority to bring new content as of now.

"Also shouldn't there be an invisible wall to the left of the starting area in the Lagoon?"
i couldnt find any evidence of one from the code but i do agree its unusual, one is gonna be added for now till proven otherwise

"shouldn't the Moolah Mountain victory screen at the end for making it to the bottom in time only use 1 animation?"
you can find multiple videos of people beating Moolah Mountain and having a mix of dancing / victory animations. it seems to be random

"the Sprinkles ball design was added to the ball selection screen but it's not there like it should be after your recent updates past that version"
seems like it snuck past with a bug and nobody noticed, will be added again

"And in the future when you're almost done with re-building certain in-game features for the next in-game version update, can u post a comment on the main page of this site that gives us an estimated date of when u think they'll be ready for us to play for ourselves in later updates?"
usually when i have estimations for new content it will be posted in the game itself as a popup like it was for the Hamlet zones.
i sometimes tease new content / talk about how the project is doing on the discord since its a more fitting place for those that want to keep track but thats about it.

nothing is set in stone but whats planned for now is
hamlet challenges -> daily activities -> mazes -> maze builder
and somewhere in between the mazin mall.
also updates are not gonna be as frequent now that im working on major systems, these kinds of stuff take longer

here is a picture of the trophy collection page from the pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/519532507033532896/

"Is it the flags I mentioned in the Forest Zone or something else I mentioned?"
i was just curious to see which flags you mentioned having colliders so i could check it further, but none of them have their own collider and thats how it should be.

"at least that I remember of when I last played when it went down in 2015"
the original game actually barely updated after 2011, only maze sets / items were added but no major content. and yeah that idea is very inspired by the Webkinz rooms! just 3D instead of 2D.

"Did u also play Webkinz too in the past?"
i used to play it for years but my memory of most of it is foggy, doesnt really help that i lost access to my first account, but i have a newer one that i maintain and take care of my new pets

"how do you know so much about the original game?"
i played Mazin Hamsters alot when it was still around! again my memory is pretty bad so most of my knowledge of the game comes from the research i put in, and the community in our discord helps a TON with information of the old game. the amount of old blog posts / lost images / videos / shared descriptions of how things used to be that are being shared over there is incredible and i read it all, so im basically a knowledge bank for this game now.

"Also do u remember the exact date u started restoring this game"
i first started working on this project on 22/7/24 (though ive been thinking of doing it for over a year at that point)
and the demo first released on 7/2/25. you can easily track these stuff based on progress updates i posted on the discord! why the question?

"and who told u about it and found the first assets of the original version of the game?"
this is a really lengthy story but in short as ive put it in a reddit post before:
"When I first posted about this project, I only had the leak secretwolf98 posted which included all of the game's code which was a great start.

But thanks to computerdude77 (Who was the source of the leak!) reaching out and giving us a more complete version and helping us extract from it, we have assets! Not all. But some! Only the assets that were loaded on the last play session from the computer the leak came from were extracted since thats all that was left in the memory."

"Finally, what are u planning on restoring next?"
the hamlet challenges! currently zum roundup is in the works.
but theres also some work being put into mazes! (though that wont come in a while)

"And will u restore this to Webkinz World fully when this is finally finished to your likings or will this always be separate from Webkinz World from then on when it's done?"
i am not associated with Webkinz, i have no power or the ability to integrate it back into Webkinz. if Webkinz would be interested in reaching out and seeing the possibility of connecting the two games i would be incredibly happy to help, but thats very not likely to happen.
till then ill handle this game and give it updates like it deserves

"I noticed it took u a few days to read this one. Before u respond to all the questions I ask often, do u usually always check and confirm what I mention in each is true when u play the game yourself?"
i was busier than usual which is why my response times differ.
and yes i always check everything, im aware that bugs and oversights are inevitable with a project this complicated. for example the invisible walkable space under the drawbridge was a result of an unused older version of the mountain hamlet terrain that only affected that area, the cliff was steeper before it seems

"It would also be nice if there was someone from the original development team of the old version of the game who still lives so they could help u restore this faster!"
the truth is that i work best alone when it comes to code, we did reach out to some of the original devs to see if they might've had any original assets lying around but none came of it yet

most of these are good calls! you can expect those to be fixed next update

but the candles on the chandeliers are not supposed to be lit,
the beetle in the river rapids is actually in the right spot but its animation was broken so good that you brought attention to it.
and the colored flags shouldnt have any colliders, i couldnt find those on the ground that you said DO have one, can you point me to those?

about the prizes, challenge maze trophies will still be awarded, a maze trophy collection page already existed in the original game!
i also am considering a way to showcase them in the future in a more meaningful way, but thats additional content that will wait for the full restoration to be completed first.

my plan is to have no asset be unused, prizes that are linked to webkinz would need a more creative solution. a hamster enclosure that you could decorate with the furniture items is one of the ideas im really interested in making but gotta gauge interest first.
what i would probably do for the challenge and daily rewards for now is give instead items like tube and maze rooms so players can start collecting those for the maze builder that'll come

recreating anything that isnt hamsters or ball designs is gonna be incredibly tricky but technically achievable, wont be perfect though.
this project is aiming to restore the game to exactly what it was originally, that means that im keeping misplaced objects in their place, all changes like the red lamp lights and jump animations are a step to correcting the game to as it originally was.
i CAN relocate misplaced objects, i just choose not to.
once i fully restore the game i want to focus on adding and changing content but till then im just adjusting everything to be as correct as possible

assets are constantly in the process of being restored since the start of the project (for example only 5 out of 18 hamsters and 7 out of 46 ball designs currently have their original textures), it just takes a long long time as a passion project and depends on the volunteers.

if you want a more detailed look at what was restored / found, have a look at our assets sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Znqm_JfIegcUbT4adxkU_Zqwpn-nvqtxxNbCYUueWcI/edit?usp=sharing

we also got a big source of collected pictures from the base game for references if you're curious: https://www.pinterest.com/MarrowBird/found-mazin-hamster-images/

regarding the bugs
about the You are leaving the zone text, it was blue in the original version so its correct.
the misplaced trampoline under the ground is not a mistake, i already looked 20 times into it when i placed it and it seems that in the original version there was just a misplaced one, the way i remade the hamlet zones is very precise, if an object is somewhere theres a 99% chance it belongs there. why is it there? no idea, maybe a scrapped part of the cave system

about everything else, i hopefully can include fixes for those in a patch in a few weeks

must've been an oversight, ill release a patch tomorrow that'll include them

try following these steps, if the app still doesnt open let me know!

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

2. Go to Security, then click Open.

3. Click Open Anyway.

4. Enter your login password, then click OK.

about the Mountain Zone, ill look into the collisions of those objects i probably missed those.
for the Lagoon Zone, those arent bugs, only certain waterfalls emitted splash effects in the original game, the misplaced object was there from the original game aswell, and the spot with no water in the giant tree is intended.

ill look into the jump height, no one ever mentioned it feeling off till now
and dont worry you can ask questions here aswell, just thought id offer discord cause its more convenient usually

you stumbled on an easteregg i hid in the game (its not part of the original game), in the base game theres an invisible barrier stopping you from passing the catapult. the key can be used somewhere after obtaining it but i dont wanna spoil it :) also dont be shy with questions id love to answer everything, theres a channel on our discord server specifically for questions so its welcomed

the Launcher should handle the updates on its own, make sure you open the game through the Launcher (MazinLauncher.exe) and not directly through its files. if that is what you're doing then your installation is faulty, make sure to extract the downloaded launcher and put all of the files together in a folder if its not already in one. if you need further help id love to help you over Discord where we can send screenshots and see whats going on on your side

thank you for bringing attention to the blue lotus flower! it'll be fixed for next week's update

the purple flower is there from the original game! theres an old video it appears in as proof but it is odd, i guess they scrapped those flowers at the time and forgot that one

also lamps from the area emit real light while the flowers just glow, they're not meant to lighten anything near them

the version you wanna download depends on what computer you're using, they're all the same game just packaged differently to fit different ports.
if your computer is running Windows, download MazinLauncher.zip.
if you have Linux download LinuxOSbuild.zip, and for Mac download MacOSBuild.zip!

currently only MazinLauncher (Windows) auto updates, for other versions you'll need to redownload the game to get the new content, but your data will remain!

i posted it yesterday! should've written a dev log here aswell but i forgot, my bad! sadly the web version cant save data between versions, if you want to keep your saves you need to download the game! and the jump height wasnt touched as far as i know

they can and will! im focusing on restoring the zones first though

I know people already said so but the movement really could use more work, it felt off controlling the character. Also i feel like the game is way too forgiving, like the enemies deal only 5 damage when you have 800.
I never really felt any threat since the enemies are easy as well, especially after getting the hammer too.
The hammer is way too op, it appears you gave the player invincibility while the hammer animation is playing but that made him completely untouchable, i completed the boss without moving and just spamming hammer attacks and got out of it without a scratch.
But that doesnt take from the fact that i still enjoyed the game, the story and narrator were a nice way to keep players engaged and even though i was op, i still had fun killing those shadow men.
If you ask me the environment is really good too!

The game was abit slow in terms of player movement but other than that it was really fun!

I love tower defense games so this was super fun for me!

With only 2 towers it was kind of easy to choose which was better, which was the laser one cause it dealt way more dps in total than the first turret.
I just died at a round with so many red cubes that im not sure its even possible to beat hahaha but it was nice! I liked the simplified visuals and direct gameplay.
Only complaint is that theres no restart button!! I died like twice at the start of the game when i had to learn the game and had to refresh my page just to try it again

Also lets see someone try to beat my highscore, i dare you

Wow this is a really nice puzzle game!!
Definitely on the theme of infinite loop hahah
Quite unique and was fun to think of solutions for!

The idea was really good but i feel like the execution could have gone better.
My main complaint is that the constantly moving world made my head spin haha.
Also that it was hard to determine when to use my attacks.
I found myself just missing an attack and having to do an entire loop around the globe just to try again cause going back is really hard

I really really like the direction you went with this game!
Our games have some elements in common hehe so we think alike
The level up system is intriguing and i like the rewards you can get out of it, though i gotta say that after wave 15 it was really hard to find motivation for playing since it takes forever to get to the next upgrade and the enemies become just too strong.
I decided to give up on wave 25 after seeing how long it takes me to take down one boss, and there were 4 at the same time xD
Overall i really dig the waves and i like the 3 different enemy types!
I could only wish for more enemy types and more upgrades to make it better

It had a cute premise!
The death monologue made me realize i should go outside more though.
Overall simple and cute game, im surprised you managed to make it in 12 hours!

It took me a minute to figure out what im supposed to do but it was fun when i did!
The controls were abit off but nothing too major. The funny physics are what made the game for me xD

Found it kind of hard at first but after a few tries i figured the best strat hahah, my high score is 237 btw. Cute and short game!

Oh no we forgot to add in the controls how to pickup weapons haha, I updated the controls in the game's description. Thank you for trying the game!

You really nailed the old mmo aesthetic! I found myself staying near the snowing area just for the funkin music thats playing there xD

Im really impressed with the writing in this!

The guild members reactions and dynamic is really fun and i found the admin talking to the player super cute, really nice addition.

The whole concept is really well thought off and done to a tee.

Have you tried downloading it instead? Usually games run better on the PC itself.
And if its still unplayable on your PC, you can always watch the walkthrough on the game's page. You wont miss on much since its mostly story driven!

Hey i seem to be stuck in the early stage of the game,

I already booted up the pc but when i "Login to the game", nothing happens. Im still in the room and nothing changed around me as far as i can tell.

Any advise?

Very interesting concept, was fun jumping around and interacting with the other players.

I do think adding a voice ability to call out to other players would be really helpful, cause it is most of the time impossible to get their attention. Also i found the anti gravity boots to be the most useful ability in the game. Sure the other abilities were fun too, but the boots are just too powerful to replace with anything else in my opinion.

I managed to get to the end while operating 2 instances by myself (The maze part was the hardest, but i just left one instance at the end of the maze to make it easier activating the maze gem)

I couldn't find most of Evan's evidence post unfortunately, and i bet theres still alot that i havent seen, which is incredible how you managed to do so much in the jam's timeframe!

Overall i enjoyed the game, im sure it would be a real chaos with a full server

Thank you so much for trying the game out!

I think letting the speaker say a few lines when the player fails a couple of times is a brilliant idea, definitely adding this one.

I'm working on a new version that will overhaul the entire game, so feedback is very appreciated!

(1 edit)

Hello! I know its quite late into the jam but im looking for a music and sounds guy.

Are you still interested by any chance? If you are, please contact me through discord Yuva#6362

I really like how you used the rewind mechanic here. Its a solid idea

Hello, if the game doesn't load then try downloading the game instead.

I appreciate the feedback!
I couldnt agree more with everything you said, hopefully i can fix it after the jam xD

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hey, i've seen the stream and im so sorry about making the game so hard xD

Thank you for streaming your gameplay, its really helpful to see what new players will try and where they most struggle.

It hurt most of the time to see you fail cause it was 80% the game's fault which isnt ideal for a speedrun game.
I took alot of notes from your feedback and wont let those to waste.

Most playtesters liked the level with the crushers cause it let them use their full speed.
I see that in the future, levels should be more like that one and not handicap the player with small platforms.

Even you suggesting about having no timer at all was mind opening for me, i didnt even think of that possibility.
Looks like i'll need to sit down and see into what direction i'll take this game forward.

The game feels really neat to control and i think the idea behind it is good!

Its a shame i was stuck on a level (Same one as Chipi from the comments)
I think you should add a walkthrough to your jam page, should help those who get stuck!

Watch out cause I'm on a roll, 10/10 gems in 7:38 minutes!
https://imgur.com/a/bjZYWeD

Its a cute game with a simple but well executed premise. Levels were harder than I thought they would be but that's just fine with me!

Only complaint is that I wanted more.

The idea is really cool, never seen anything like it.

The achievements were a good way to keep the player interested to find everything (It sure worked on me).

Just a shame that my slow brain takes so long to read backwards xD
