New falling platform traps~

Hi, this game is truly fantastic. I really enjoy its art style, jumping mechanics and precision. The animations and music are also really good. Just one small suggestion: it would be great if there are more checkpoints. The platform jumping is quite challenging, and every time I hit a trap, I have to travel a long distance to return to where I fail, which is a bit discouraging. But just as I said, I love this game, look forward to the future version.

Thanks to itch.io and all who played our game! We have received valuable feedback from many players, and based on the feedback, we have planned the following improvements:

  • Enhancing the boss monster animations.
  • Introducing more character skills.
  • Refining the storyline in the demo.
  • Balancing the difficulty (currently the first boss is a bit unbalanced).
  • Balancing the acquisition and usage of the in-game currency "Scattered Soul".

While we continue our work on the game, we are also preparing to release the second version of our demo to include all the improvement above!

We have planned to introduce a new boss rush mode in the second version of our demo! which will enable players to focus on the boss fights featured in the demo and showcase the full potential of the character skills!

Overview

We have been working on this game for almost a year, with a plan to release it in mid~late 2024. This game is inspired by Dark Souls, Hollow Knight and many other games we absolutely love!

We are a very small team (just my wife and myself) and work during our part-time, and we try to focus on enhancing key features such as immersive storytelling, engaging platforming, challenging battles, intensive boss fights, and expansive metroidvania exploration.

Story

After a catastrophic thunderstorm, an ancient curse descends, transforming Sakuradoki High School into a living hell. The awakened survivors gradually lose their sanity, their souls are devoured by desire and fear, turning them into bloodthirsty and brutal monsters...

Soul Devourer is a metroidvania action-platformer with a classic 2D horror style. The vast school is shrouded in an evil, ancient curse. You'll explore this eerie and dangerous world, battle twisted, crazed monsters, and ultimately uncover the long-buried secrets concealed beneath the school.

Features

  • Explore over 10 unique main areas in a vast, interconnected game world full of excitement.
  • Collect scattered souls from the game world, that allow player enhance character, master new abilities, customise gameplay and strategy.
  • Fight over 60 types of twisted monsters, each with unique behaviors and attacks.
  • Challenge over 10 ferocious bosses, find their weaknesses and defeat them. After being defeated, each boss will leave a Giant Soul, granting the player powerful and unique abilities.
  • Uncover the long-buried secrets beneath the school, encounter mysterious characters, collect a variety of clues, forge a unique path towards the truth of the ancient curse.
  • Enjoy the classic hand-drawn 2D art.
  • Customisable key bindings that supports both keyboards and gamepads.
  • Gamepad vibration.

Hi meds0, this is mainly a dark 2d metroidvania platformer with some horror visual elements, not very scary :)

Hi Nutellaflox, we are a small team currently focusing on PC version. We will consider mobile version in the future when we get enough resource.
