Fun game, enjoyable, a lot of potential! Good luck on further development.

Thank you - I am glad you enjoyed :)

To be honest, this is not my first jam, but my first project that Iwill not delete after the jam since it became quite good this time. In case you dare todive into a Pagan/Celtic/Viking Lore and embrace the roots of Halloween (Samhain) this game might be for you. It consist of 6 Puzzles to solve that are woven into the story and Lore of Pagan / Celtic / Viking Culture.

► Play SAMHAIN: Wrath of Wendigo ◄
SAMHAIN: Wrath of Wendigo

Pagan / Celtic / Viking Puzzle Game

If you are still playing some games from the jam, mine seems not be liked by the algorythm and gets burried, things happen when there are 1000 submissions. It#s a pagan cultural puzzle game. ► https://soultrailstudios.itch.io/samhain-wrath-of-wendigo (or the banner ↓)

Fresh and nobody shared their games? Whoah.
So, here is my entry, a Pagan Lore Puzzle Game. It's Samhain (historically and culturally the root of what we call today Halloween) and due to the beliefs of what happens on Samhain you are sent out into the forest ... and then thigns happen!

On a sidenote: If you also have create a lore rich game to dive into a different world, I'd be glad to play them too. That's kinda my thing to enjoy games that build a world around their gameplay.

Hi fellow Game Devs and Jammers,

for this jam I embraced the Lore of the Pagan Folks to formulate a game thatputs the focus on Lore, Story anda long forgotten culture. HALLOWEEN is rooted in the Pagan ccelebration called SAMHAIN - thelast day of harvest and the day when it was believed that the veil between SPIRIT and PHYSICAL world is the thinnest. On this day the Pagan Volks lit a huge bonfire and dressed up scary to scare off evil spirits.

In SAMHAIN: Wrath of Wendigo you are sent into the woods to encounter a spirit, the WENDIGO who is the guardian of the balance of the forests flora and fauna and he i not happy with the humans cutting down forests and trating the woods like it serves them, not respecting the need of balance.

Luckily the shaman of your village is with you and helps you to perform ancient rituals to soothe the wrath of wendigo. Solve puzzles designed around a mystic mix of viking and pagan runestones and beliefs to show Wendigo you understand him and know how to change to make him spare the people of your village.

I will be very happy and glad if you give this jump into a new world based on real life culture of halloween a chance and enjoy the puzzles. The game can be played: HERE.

See you there!

Now that's some welcomeing invite I cannot decline.
Feel free to playtest SAMHAIN: Wrath of Werdigo

it's a story and lore rich puzzle game with around 10 minutes of gameplay on a successful playthrough.
On a sidenote, when you finished your first puzzle and fail, you will have the option to skip intro on the second playthrough.

Enjoy a deep dive into pagan Lore

game is online! LF :)

I feel like "First one" is tough - I will take every minute until the deadline for development so I cannot suggest my project until the deadline. But would be glad. It will be: "SAMHAIN: Wrath of Werdigo"

That's so far the only real life incorporated game and hits the nail on the head with the theme. Unrelated to the graphcis or the lacks of it, it is a unique idea and well executed with interesting challanges! One of my favourite here (but i spew some swearwords mitdgame :D )

I might add here: The challanges became pretty instantly very challanging. I enjoyed the switching mechanic and tv static tv with fisheye effect on switching is really cool! Also vie visuals are very well done, minimalistic done right. It's just the first challange on jumping with the vertical obstacle - this one is tricky, a bit early for a lot of trial and error. After all, a great game.

It's a fun game after all! Everyone loves blobs :)

Surely you can overlook the glazing I did on your game and focus on me pointing out the theme is barely touched.

very cool and unique idea, definetly worth a play and triggers some deep instincts to get things right. The sensitivity on this one is veeery hard, guesss it's a matter of trial and error - anyway, unique little cute game. But in term of Theme, there is not much Man vs Nature here going on.

Very intriguing game, a lot of trial and error but once you figure out what is going on, it's a very pleasing rush of success. Man vs. nature Aspect perfectly executed! Good music, good visuals, neat Lore and flawless gameplay mechanics - bugfree af! This game is a lot of fun.

Very cute and lovely, unlocked the golder bearm, a lot of fun and quality works of BGm and GFX. Not much of a Man vs Nature here going though, despite being a great, fun and cosy game.

I want to know! Who is him, who is her, why is it. I think I know and understand but I don't have enough data to confirm. There is something shady going on and I need a resolve!

very challanging game, shall introduce new challanges and obstacles slowly. Aesthetically pleasing and a very fun game mechanic with neat VFX - enjoyable!

But then again, no "man vs. nature" here

Oh yeah, riiight! Now I get it. When I think about twice this makes sense, you're right. But I had to think twice, so my point stands. Does not chance the fact that it is a good game.

Very great idea to incorporate real life "man versus nature" aspect and making a sidescrolling platformer a learning experience. This has quite some potential to be a bunch of timecombined with skillbased gameplay and some adduitional learning.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Study some platforming mapdesign to place obstacles according to skill level e.a. introducing a mechanic or a change of platform variation before it becomes a norm. Like going backwards, or rising water levels - all of this has to be displayed to the player before it becomes a challange (Games Done Quick has some good videos on that)
  • Give the player some time when unlocking new info. I enjoy knowledge and it feels rewarding to gain knowledge. But meing mid-challange there is no time to stop and read the info.
  • Scale your skill on pixel art, nowadays a good gameplay, especially a game with learning and knowledge, that does look "homebrew" does not appeal that quickly.

Lovely game, great fun and amazin incorporation of the Jam Theme!

Great game! Nejoyable combat (skills are needed for sure), broad variety ob interactible things, randomly generated map, great visuals and quite some thought behind this project. Definetly a 10/10 from me here BUT it does not embrace the "Man vs. Nature" themen a lot.

Great gameplay idea, the moving block system on a fixed axis by pushing falling blocks is a very unique idea - it just doesn't convert into fun gameplay.

10/10 theme! Man vs. Nature, where else if not in Australia! A very interesting aproach on the theme from the perspective of a wildlife doctor caring for patience and very indepth with symptoms and options and caring and healing solutions.

This has, with some polishing and neat visualupgrades, the potential to hook for several hours.

It's okay. It doesn't explain itself a lot, like why does my score up without me doing anythzing missing every equasion and molecule? I don't know. It's more of a mechanic display in a wrapper of sciene than much of a game. But it's okay, fun for a minute.

But topic missed: There is no man vs. nature in this, could be debatable since science explains laws of nature it might be somehow the themen but so subtle I count this as "Topic missed".

Very coheceive project to unwind, cosy, relaxing and the elegance is inviting to forget the outside world for a minute or two while selecting flowers.

As good as the game and overall aesthetics (visuall, animations and music and sfx) are, the theme is not fulfilled.

Some wholesome and very cute alabama blobs. Potential for a cool tamagochi game - yet, theme is 100% missed. For what it is, it is decent and lovely.

The Themeincorporation was sneaky! I really felt a wholesome cosy chill vibe with the smooth music and the cute cown planting my stawberries and becoming a stawberry farmen ... untill!

At some point of the game the theme really shines! Genius way of incorporating "vs. Nature".

Visualy are coheceive and very good looking, starting from the logo implying man vs nature (rakes over rockwalls), the setting is very cute and lovely and super cosy (well .. untill!) the UI's are geniune to use, basically the whole gameplay is very intuitive - great UX here!

Another 10/10 from this game jam for me!

This is a solid 10/10

  • Theme incorporation is genius! Subtle but fully on point. Reducing manmade stuff to free the habitat of the wolf is sleek!
  • The visual are coheceive, there is breaking immersion of this setting
  • Music is very well composed, subtle and enjoyable to have in the background
  • The gameplay is beyond your casual match-3, it's a match game with a twist!
  • technically everything works perfectly!
  • Last but not least: The voicelines of the wolf are nasty :D Why you do me like that! But this gives it a personality to remember, so even this is a perfect example on how to create a memorable character

Absolut epic genius project!

Played it for a while, works smooth, no technical issues. Setting and Lore seems promising. Gameplay has a very neatly working pathfinding element. But sadly besides moving the mice around I was not able to encounter any engagement into anything besides moving mice around.

The pathfinding system though is very cool!
