As others have said, nice art. I especially liked the little UI touches like the character avatars and text box border.

The fishing minigame was fun for a while but a button to leave it would have been great.

The dialogue choices were a bit confusing to me - they didn't flow as well as the main text.

Looks like you used the Monogatari engine? I hadn't heard of it before - looks cool!

Fun game, pretty cool game loop. A frantic button mashing type thing except you have to grab dice instead of hit buttons.

It was difficult to stay with it as dice kept getting stuck in weird places, or couldn't be gripped easily, and there wasn't much time to calculate a cannon load from seeing an incoming asteroid.

The sound effects and visual effects were well done :)

I love this! It seems punishingly difficult, the theme is on point and I think it will resonate with a lot of people right now. I reached a 'happy' ending with a bank job, but not sure if that would be  my ideal outcome haha.

It was hard to keep the stats high, especially energy. It was easy to get soft locked out of some options - I wasn't able to practise for interviews or do yoga after the first day or so. It wasn't clear which options affected which stats. Eating food kept decreasing energy, which seemed counterintuitive.

The routine of self care, food and job hunting was quite compelling. Good overall game design!

Pretty decent platformer! Awesome that i can shoot and jump hehe. The multiple difficulties is impressive, really well done tutorial with the commands being introduced one by one and without an annoying pop up.

I was confused about what to do in the area to unlock the new skill though. And the bees were super annoying to deal with haha.

As others have said, cool art style with the mix of 2D and 3D. A bit confusing about what to do next, time didn't seem to progress when working, and I got negative money quite easily. Lots of cool minigames!

Cool vibes, but confusing controls. I can sail around and visit ports, but buying things doesn't seem to deduct money. And I can't sell them again later.

Edit: I figured out the trading.

  • ports are named randomly on each play through (3 letter words)
  • each tradeable good can only be sold at a particular port
  • you buy a good with numbers from any port, then sell them at the port they are intended for with the letter keys
  • you only get money when selling items, not buying. In effect, you are accepting a delivery contract rather than buying items.

Bugs:

  • you can go into negative money when buying ships, so earning money isn't really necessary
  • trade prices are refreshed each time you visit a port, so you can just move away a square and come back to see a new list of items
  • there's no indication when you reach max ship upgrades (i spent way too much time grinding upgrades haha)

Nice little game :)

I loved this game! I used to play so many text based MUDs back in the day.  This was easy to pick up, fun to discover which actions are possible, and cool things like the lockbox.

Your writing style is simple yet immersive. I loved glorp!

What framework did you use to make the game? I would like to make something similar.

The romance ending was too cute.

I couldn't figure out how to paint on the canvas, or watch tv. I found out too late that about some things like working with roommates or talking to the prof.

The game is very on point with the game jam theme. I was a bit annoyed when time skipped forward and I ran out of time for the assignment, thinking I had a few days to go :D

BTW we have uploaded an Expanded Edition with much more content, bug fixes, music and a minigame. Play it here: https://sioloc.itch.io/morgans-trail-expanded

Thanks for the tip! BTW we have uploaded an Expanded Edition with much more content, bug fixes, music and a minigame. Play it here: https://sioloc.itch.io/morgans-trail-expanded

Thank you! We have fixed the bugs and added more content in the expanded version, released here:

Thank you! Yes a known bug - I used a wrong method to fade the screen so it hid the text at the very end :/

The hex code thing is a limitation of the Fungus framework we used unfortunately. We found a workaround for our 'expanded' version of the game which adds in the stuff we weren't able to get in before the end of the jam:

Thank you! Microsoft Copilot. We kept feeding it an existing reference image to get it to keep it consistent

Thank you, yes we intended to create a LORA model but ran out of time!

hey, yes we used gen AI for the art 😄

well done on finishing your game! I'm a big fan of the original cookie clicker.

There are some glitches in this. Sprites for the purchased upgrades aren't showing up, and buying upgrades somehow renames that upgrade to bakery.

Otherwise good job on implementing this!

I loved this! Made me chuckle a few times :D

The text could be proofread and the English improved a bit, especially early on. The text was a bit disjointed and hard to follow. The background colours sometimes blended with the text colour, and made it hard to read.

I liked the sense of exploring different options, like poking people in the tavern etc to see if they moved. Having to backtrack and try other paths.

Morgan was interesting and relatable. I loved how you conveyed a powerful concept, while wrapping up the story. I found this tough to do with my own game - designed for way more content than I was able to put in the game in the end.

Nice work!!

Hello, did you end up finding a team to work with?

Added a simple timer in the top right :)

Thank you! I have just updated it to add touchscreen controls for mobile devices, and made the difficulty cap a bit higher.
