Looks like awesomeness again. Cronos was my personal GOTY before, looks like Windigo found their comfort zone and does it great. Games like this back in the 80s would have made the kids head spin. Excellenz!!! (tested on a mister FPGA too fyi seems to work np)

you're welcome, im not trying to criticize or anything . The autoload can have several causes i suppose, including the TOS version used, normally you would just create a folder named "AUTO" and put your program in it but i notice on my (real) STe it doesnt always work as well for some programs. Im not quite the expert lol. I got a mister some years ago and i use it for most retro gaming because its handy to have all things in a single box and for gaming its usually good enough. For tracking or stuff i think you cant beat the real machine because thats where you get the real sound. I dont do this specific i test this on most new st and c64 games so if its of use please use it. And thanks for making new stuff for the ST !!!
the links to "offgame.org" seem to be working and sound : DMA seems to be a bit misleading lol ...
The .st image provided gives four bombs on a mister fpga but if you load it after you boot the core it works fine so maybe its something in the bootsector or some kind of quirk in the archive there, just fyi , the game works fine but "dma" i expected something else hahah
its ALWAYS nice to see new stuff for the old box, i havent loaded it on my real one yet but im sure you have or else it wouldnt be here.
the .prg works fine on a mister when moved to a hard drive from "stock" and up
i have taken the liberty of
https://janesondergrond.art/dl/mrfpga/hfksmstr.st
creating a disk image that boots (auto) on a mister starting tos1 and up
i'll leave it there for a month you can do with it as you please
thanks for the ST port , hope to see more
thats what A.I. mostly does , isn't it ;) i think the art thats included for printing your own box or cover pretty much stands out as original, it has no a.i. vibe at all ... its sad sometimes, theres so many great artists who would probably do you a cover or drawing for free b/c they're drawing anyway ... but ... this is really a great game release - theres a lot of stuff for the c64 yearly, maybe not as much as the speccy but still a whole lot but most of it is ...
great to keep the machine alive while very few are fully finished polished prods imo
just looking at the video i can see that wonderboy in monsterland (st version) doesnt hold a candle to this.
Here's rooting we get to see a full version of the game some day, ... no rush,, my STE has been waiting 35 years, im sure it can wait another few for a game that actually shows what it can do !!!
is this the handpainted artwork ? my A.I. paranoia had me wonder why use A.I. all the time for 8bit game boxart and flyers but i keep reading "hand painted inlay by Gustafson" everywhere ....
If thats the case ...
The game itself looks really great, the kid used to loove Zorro, played so many hours of that, so if this is really hand-painted i dont know when i'll find time to finish but i'll get it.
The old machine needs more finished quality releases (i hear its a bit on the short side tho but i guess it beats gamejems lol)
...
(please dont tell me this is A.I. after all now that i bought it)
edit : the inlay that comes with looks pretty much painted indeed but this pic isnt, is it ? ... well i just tested it on a mister fpga
you need set standard c64 in hardware settings for the .d64 image or you get this
(im confident it will work fine on the meatloaf or kungfu cart on my real machine)
it looks awesome and plays really smooth, we got a winner, GOTY'25 material
that used to be one of the kids favourites with space taxi ... i must say natthrafn here has this oldskool style down pretty well ... with springvogel'25 and the other one thats not too bad !!!
Would be great if you could find a scener with too much time to do the banner pics in real64 style , these look a bit a.i. generated
any idea how to run this on a mister fpga zxnext core ? i injected it into the .vhd hard drive file, the .nex and folder is under /games and i can start it but theres nothing but a mousepointer and music playing while if i keep clicking after a while sprites start marching from the right ... (this is mister fpga specific !!!! havent ran on an emulator or real hw) maybe there's some setting anyone can help with im not too familiar with the zxnext core
if anyone can, thx in advance
yo, a type-in game from 1978 ? thats dedication !!!!
it runs on a mister fpga with minimal settings to STE 1MB tos 2.05 (but also megaste-2mb 2.06)
"Long Range Scan for quadrant 2,4
Data updated on screen, captain "
!
(i assume it works on the real machine since you programmed it on one so i havent copied it there) thanks for the hard work , keep that thing alive!
Hi, a quick question. I checked it quite some time ago and everything looked really great. I just wondered if you have a "full pack" that doesnt require an internet connection and comes with everything installed b/c what i remember is it installs and then downloads stuff on demand which , to my needs sadly doesnt work out well.
Just asking , great stuff btw
I found myself on the 4th character in a bit of a slum too ... the first ones went down pretty fast. The slinger for some reason got attacked by the town cat after picking up something two fighting npc's dropped. The farmers started coming at me with their vine-pitchforks , had no choice but to defend myself ...
After some time i was left with 68 bullets, dead merchants, dead elder, dead herbalist, dead blacksmith, dead everyone, five truckloads of loot, enough water for ten levels. My character was level 5 but for some reason i was cursed and all the factionsin the world despised me now (so im guessing its gonna be hard to both sell the stuff from the now dead town , turn in the quests to the dead questgivers (they were still in the book)
and on top of that i bet no one anywhere will sell me bullets and i dont know how to make 'em
strangely enough the one guy still standing who didnt attack me ?
"the warden" :p
this was an insta-like ... classic is the only way to go !
I parked the char until i know more about it, all subsequent ones died at lvl one too, somewhere a few tiles on the world map away from joppa, dessicated and killed by some strange horse or dog ...
i hope the devs keep at it, expanding the world , npcs , systems, factions and mechanics and are still at it 15 years from now
this is so fresh :)
(and yea a version that runs on a pi would be nice but probably some hassle to compile i dunno if unity can , i dont even know if its still unity i didnt know about this game until recently actually, been 15 years in development and its "what the devs want"(to play) io "what players want
LIKE !!!
i think i played this in lo-res (by which i mean color version) i meant to refer to the hi-res monochrome mode on the ST(e) series of computers but thanks for answering. Its great enough as is, it just be nice to have a hi-res version of an "already monochrome" game on the ST, it would probably be one of a kind i cant think of any full fps platformers using hi resolution mode (doesnt mean they dont exist)
But converting all that is probably a ton of work for very little return for what is by now a very small crowd i assume.
Great stuff anyway, Hopefully we get a sequel or a monochrome productions shmup somewhere in the future
finally got to booting it ... this is some impressive smooth and glitchless ST(e) stuff guys !! I always think of the overlanders first love demo as to "what could an ST have really done b/c most didnt really make everything out of it. 30 colours full screen at full 50fps and an actual enjoyable retrogame , whats not to like. Here's rooting to see more (or extensions on this one )
Ok, finally got to testing it ... plz whoever the coder this is not criticism, i know most Atari freakz are masochists but just in case :
it works fine on Hatari under emutos (which is probably normal)
now as for my real hw : (STE 1040 4MB tos 1.62)
after some shovelling via acsi or gemdos emulation i got the files on a real floppy formatted on the st which works perfectly, tho it only seems to work from the autofolder
sidecart : i have to convert the .msa file to an .st file using "hmsa" tool that comes with hatari because the .msa file gives about 15 bombs when used in the sidecart emulator, once converted to an .st file it runs fine ( maybe the cart needs exact 720-sized disks , that i dont know, all i know is the converted .st file works (and is 720) while the msa doesnt (its about 150 or so ?) , it works on the emulator tho (hatari)
running from hd : same as inserting the floppy after boot and starting via the exe in auto folder , not working
this is not criticism, just fyi in case you still intend to work on it b/c personally we here would be rooting for a "true" monochrome (hires) version as well as a portable folder you can move to a gemdos card or acsi partition via pc , after all real floppies are getting rare somewhat and not always reliable anymore but nothing beats a real joystick on the real machine imo
FYI and thx for putting work and time into the conversion
Waw, thats the kind of stuff they wanted to sell interactive CD for i guess ... watching the vid on saberman i first thought wow this is some badass rendering but its written in compiled basic (AMOS is compiled basic, right ?) and i assume by FMV you mean fullmotionvideo (which is what icd / "cd-i" would excell at) with some kindof sprite overlay, without getting too technical. The blend is really good indeed.
Can i ask what software you used to render the video ? native amiga or some modern tool like blender or other (is there still any other i wonder , is lightwave or maxxon still around sometimes with all the ai stuff going on)
i bet starwars and amiga fans will love this thing
woaw, doing a game like this without a boxed edition seems like a bit of a shame b/c cultists will certainly buy to an extent, there's usually publishers who do other peoples stuff boxed but dont create themselves...
NOT that its any of my business lol, its just you dont see a game like this every two weeks in retro64(or other)land ...
looks great (could at least be worth the time polling if there's intrest for it and use pre-order for 0-risk)
anyway dont mind the looney ... people who take their time before publishing are certainly greatly appreciated
its a bit of a pointer at 1980s gaming where you're not allowed one mistake at all . Its certainly not a breaker. Im at mission 5 atm without the strategy or cheats and i must say the sorting algorithm (aka "a.i." i guess) used for combat sequence is pretty nice. To have my $$$ handed by an 8bit tbs is not really something i can remember from before lol. It certainly reminds me of battle isle somehow. I like the way you say "next time" , a campaign editor or total wargame construction kit certainly wouldnt turn out bad like this.
Not my place to direct your efforts but i was thinking an ezf release would grant this potential the space it deserves but i just see the .prg is 51kb only (compressed i suppose) so in essence you could exchange more options or content for loading times.
Anyway, its totally copulating awesome to see a tbs on the old machine that never died rise up in 2024 i cant remember anything like it unless i count laser squad which the kid loved to play but sadly not too many friends liked it so it was epyx, exploding fist or run the gauntlet most of the time.
I'll leave it here, no need to reply , thanks a lot for the time and effort to actually design this io random generated apshai levels :)
Ya,i was pretty curious seeing this and id have to with "battle isle64" as well , im not far enough into my cheatless game and only read the first chap of strategy to see if i missed (and i didi :entrenchment) . Its pretty deep for an 8bit 64k game but if i could make one suggestion (other than a campaign editor with loadable full campaigns from .d64 or expansion to Wargame Construction Kit 64" :) ... euhm) :
A yes/no button on the door-exit icon, i was almost through mission 4 and accidentally clicked it it took me right to the menu lol . No biggie but it wouldnt be a pointless addition (if there's still codespace left)
