Sorry for the bump, but I was wondering, since scammers tend to make new accounts when found out, if itch.io could implement a shadow ban system?

that's because it wasn't made during this game jam... https://itch.io/jam/o2a2-2024/rate/2815941
As discussed in the other thread, I made a discord server for that: https://discord.gg/eaZYGwQePc
I made a server, however, I'll need your help to make it work https://discord.gg/eaZYGwQePc
Hi,
We've recently found out that one of the entries for our jam was not as genuine as we thought and was in fact a plagiarized game. The author took the hard work of another and passed it off as their own in order to pocket the rewards from our jam. And mind you, it wasn't a lot; a golden certificate and 71 USD, but they still did it. They even had the balls to ask for their real name to be on the certificate!
We were only alerted to the fact of their cheating because they made victims in other jams in China and elsewhere (though all of those were hosted on itch as far as I'm aware). The people affected contacted us and other gamejams where the fraudster was active and it is only thanks to them that we were able to spot the fraud. In hindsight there were many things we could have done to prevent the incident from happening and we will now incorporate googling the game and reverse image search, among others, in our vetting procedure. This is going to be tedious even with few entries, but honesty and trust are not good systems on the internet as the dose of reality that hit us in the face demonstrated.
But also, I was wondering if people would be interested in forming a network of jam hosts so that we can collaborate together to prevent known bad actors from doing too much damage. A place where we can share information amongst organizers independent of platform, because let's be honest, if it happens on itch, it probably happens everywhere and the more we are, the more information we can collect. Though this thread would be a good start at least. But I was thinking of using reddit and or discord.
Ideas? Thoughts?
Edit: due to the positive feedback here and on the itch forums, I'm tentatively creating this discord server: https://discord.gg/eaZYGwQePc I'm not too familiar with subreddits, so if anyone would like to step up and create one, it would be appreciated.
Read the late submission rules here: https://itch.io/jam/4mb-jam-2025/topic/4936440/think-you-wont-make-it-in-time-re...
Format of late submission
Game Name:
Itch page:
Like last time, the judges have decided to accept late submissions. After the deadline has passed, there will be a 12 hour window during which applicants will be able to submit after the deadline. Here are the late submission rules, read very carefully:
- Late submissions are not eligible to the cash prize
- Late submissions will have 1 point deducted from their total score for every hour that has passed since the deadline at the time at which it is submitted.
- So if for example you submitted 4 hours late and your submission scores 14 points in the size category and 16 points in the fun category, then the score for each will become 10 and 12 respectively.
- Late submissions will need to be uploaded on itch.
- Once you have the itch page for your late submission, you have to request a submission link on the Wall of Shame by providing a link to your submission's itch page.
- The Wall of Shame thread will be only created here on itch once the jam deadline is over
- There will be zero tolerance for late entries that violate any of the jam rules. https://gist.github.com/RealDoigt/c1ac8ef10c4012be6a5c3c1ab92f9df4.
- After the 12 hour late submission window is over, no late submission request will be accepted.
- For any question about the late submission rules, make a separate thread or ask on discord.
I would like to remind everyone that the one very important requirement for your games is that it is a desktop application; that means it's not a rom for a console and it's not something that needs a web browser to work. It must be its own desktop application that can run on any of the following three platforms: Windows, MacOS and Linux. I'm sorry if you knew that already, but not everyone has read the rules apparently.
If you are wondering why your game was removed from the jam or disqualified, then you can consult the following spreadsheet, which will state the reason: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ch8XFmhJEJ_knJ9XIzNr1AVqOZvtzXvWucfj9yZi....
BTW we didn't remove John Cube https://itch.io/jam/4mb-jam-2025/rate/3589934
The participant removed that entry themselves
Neither; The theme is "Worms, Holes and Wormholes" and as all themes ever, is very much open to interpretation. The judges will be the ones deciding if your interpretation is correct (or partially correct), so I have no I idea what they feel about it. Your best bet is to ask on discord. If you read the advanced rules on the gist page, it says the theme is worth up to 5 points out of a theoretical maximum of 25 points, so it's not like there's a binary "correct" and "incorrect" interpretation, it's more like a spectrum in respect to the theme. But since all elements in the theme are joined by an "and", I would assume, as per how english works, that it means worms and holes and wormholes is the kosher interpretation.

Due to the nature of this jam, compressed executable are often falsely flagged as viruses on Windows. It is very likely that the game isn't actually a virus. I recommend using a virtual machine, a sandbox, an environment that resets to a previous state on reboot or something else akin to that. Please report only legitimate viruses.
