Oh!

That was a mistake!

I must've copied it over and intended to change it, but forgot to.

Huh. I suppose next jam, I'll have to make sure I don't make such a silly little mistake.

Here's a reminder that the jam is ago!

We've a lot more entrants this time around than my first jam, and I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

Have fun, ya'll~

Hello!

The jam is being postponed till next month because Itch.io is being really slow at publicly listing this jam, so I'm waiting on them so that the jam may have time to breathe in the public.

Thanks!

The challenge actually made the track a little easier than usual because the mixing/mastering phase wasn't as stressful as it usually is, haha. Most of my songs have a lot of layering going on and a lot of sounds, and during the mixing/mastering phasing, things can get muddled and I have to be careful, and it can be annoying haha. Sometimes, I have to restart.

Most tracks of mine have roughly 20-30 different audio channels.

And, yeah . . . I've really gotten into dabbling in tempo automation, haha.

Thanks~

Haha, as was intended.

Thanks!

I've very much gotten into messing around with tempo in my tracks recently, haha.

Thank you!
Yes, I was trying to give it a sorta vibe that spoke science lab, haha.

Also, a bit of a dynamic nature is indeed something I had in mind when creating the track, so you're right to call out that, lol.

Yup! But, there isn't an explanation given

There is a popular fan-theory that it was a forced evolution orchestrated by the goddesses in order to hide the secret hidden under the great sea, which is a theory that I personally ascribe to, haha.

Thanks!

The goal of the cheerful sound was to represent the facade of benevolence, haha. I also added in a repeating flute note on-top to that end, as well. It made the starting bit less sinister, believe it or not, haha.

And, yes. Tempo manipulation is something I've been doing a lot in recent battle themes, as I feel it adds a sense of subtle chaos to the track, if that makes sense? What inspired me to start doing this recently was Libra's Theme from Elden Ring: Nightreign. I'd recommend checking it out to see  the inspo if you've not heard it. Really cool track, haha.

Thanks!

The goal of that was to represent the hold he has over the village, and the facade of benevolence.

Thanks!

I find the Locrian mode fun to play around in, haha. Really good for creating a dark mood.

The "real sounds and samples," that you mentioned are a patch in Omnisphere called "African Market with Kids."

Yup! The choir is indeed meant to represent the goddess in the grand scheme. As for the ending, its meant to loop back to the beginning, thus why I pulled away most of the layers, so as to telegraph the return to the beginning.

That's nice to hear, and I like to hear that someone out there is enjoying my music~

I also like to hear that you enjoy Haven of the Ancient Claw, because while I do like it, I do have some minor gripes with it when listening to it nowadays. Mainly that I feel like I use the roar sound a bit too repetitively in the beginning. You can get away with repeating sounds like that in a track, but only if it blends in well, and I feel like it kinda sticks out and you can "feel," the repetitiveness of it, if that makes sense.

At any rate, I'm going to be very active on my youtube, musically, so if you like my music, I'd recommend keeping an eye out there.

Thanks! I think the notes that you are mentioning are the intentional chromatic notes that I added because I wanted the melody to have a slightly jazzy hint to it, which I wasn't really able to do in the F Lydian Mode I was using.

Thanks~

The vocal sample comes to you courtesy of the "Shevannai - Voice of the Elves," VST.

The "chopped up and weird," effect is due to a portamento effect. (Pitch-Sliding to other notes.)

The instruments are in sync, but when you say off-pitch, do you mean off-key, or . . .?

If you mean literally off-pitch, then it could just be the timbre of the patches, haha.

If you mean off-key, there are indeed some chromatic elements I threw in there that are not part of the F Lydian Mode that I was composing in. (I think it was F Lydian.)

At any rate, thanks~

Yeah, I guess I can see your point in that it doesn't sound like . . . I dunno, I did consider scrapping it for a more circusy feel at one point, but I was already far along. I was trying to capture a happyish vibe because festivals are supposed to be fun, yeah? But, it's also meant to sound like a corruption of that.

Thanks!

The vocals come to you courtesy of the "Shevannai - Voice of the Elves," VST.

Thanks! I've been doing a lot of music in recent time and have recently uploaded new music to my youtube~

Most of the firework percussion is taken from a sample of the pop you hear when fireworks are fired off, and the hi-hat standin was taken from a sample of those fizzling fireworks that you hear.

I think the "clashing notes," that you're hearing is when I added in some chromatic/off-key notes. I was mainly composing in F Lydian Mode, iirc, and there were a few moments where I went off-key. I mainly did this because I wanted to give a slight jazzy vibe to the melody, and staying in F Lydian just wasn't cutting it for that.

You missed one -- I also did Malcontent Bones - Theme of Yuwal, haha.

Thanks!

The vocal is the VST "Shevannai: Voice of the Elves," and the trumpet is 2 saxophones and a trumpet iirc.

I almost made it more dissonant to fit with the lore by layering some discordant notes, but it felt a bit too grating, haha.

Glad to hear that you liked the music, as I had composed three tracks for it~

Was a fun lil project, haha.

(1 edit)

That is odd. I didn't remove the image where I posted it on discord or anything, lol. Here it is:

The inspect/act/move/item are the choices, and I want to be able to put more than four while having it continue to the right. As it is now, if I put more than four, then it just scrolls and changes them around. Like if I add a fifth , it might replace inspect or something, for example.

Hey! I have two questions about this plugin.
1. Is it MV-compatible?

2. The following image is from my current project, and depicts progression through the node-based dungeon. I use a plugin that allows me to change the positioning of choice text. Can this plugin replicate that, and allow me to see more than four questions at a time. Being only able to see four at a given time has been limiting in some regards, and I am looking into this plugin in order to get around this, potentially.

There is an intro, and three phases. The entirety of the song is actually in 3/4, although I toy around with the time signature by mixing in 4/4 elements, such as the drum beat being a 4/4 drum beat, and some notes being in 4/4 against a 3/4 bassline. The segment at 0:46 is meant to represent the courage to face Yuwal. It's the human aspect of having to face this demon, and having the hope to stand against it.  Thanks! :D

Oo, thank you~ This track was a bit challenging to put together at times, so I'm glad that you like it.

Thank you, haha~

Thanks!
I assume you mean the tambourines when you say the cymbals?

Thanks!

Maybe turning the organ melody into chords was too much at the 0:40 mark. The organs(it is two organs layered,) are meant to still be carrying the melody, and I added two chords with a wah-wah pad to telegraph the bass change to the wah-wah pad in the last segment, since it sounded too sudden without the telegraphing.

Thank you! I was originally going to go with a more menacing track, but I switched to this sorta last minuteish. Wasn't feeling my initial track, lol.

Thanks! Oh man, I knew it! I knew my melody didn't sound left enough, :(.

Thanks! Yeah, the beginning was intended to hone in on the prehistoric vibe the most.

Thanks! That segment was intended to catch the prehistoric feel the most, while the B and C segments were intended to focus on the calm/chill nature of the village.

Thanks! I will be resuming development on it shortly after a small break from dev on the game. I have some neat plans for it that I am excited to implement.  :D.

Yeah. I was concerned that they passed too fast. In the future, I will likely add more time. It is only in the beginning that the text is on a timer. The rest is input based. I'm a fast reader, and I don't think that helps with timing it, lol.

Hey, everyone! My apologies for being a few days late to updating the results -- Holiday shenanigans got in the way, but we are here now!

My thanks to all who participated in this jam. Each and every one of you made some stellar tracks, and it was really cool to see the ways in which the themes were handled.

Will I be doing more jams such as this? The answer is yes!

In fact, there will be a second Biome Jam in the near-future, so keep an eye out if that interests you!

In the meantime, I pose a question: Did everyone enjoy the biome/have a good time, and did you learn anything?

I'd like to hear from ya'll~

An excellent submission! I've found myself re-listening to many of the submissions, and this one is no exception. Ya'll be posting some really strong tracks, haha.

You absolutely nailed the forest feel! I love the bit that comes in at 0:51, which is perhaps my favorite part of the track.

Good work!

Really ominous and foreboding! I love the use of the wind sound. The track as a whole paints a vivid and bleak image in my mind of this desolate land. Good work!

Brilliant submission! I've listened to this many times since you submitted, haha. You've a strong melody in this track, and you've managed to capture the swamp aspect quite well! I always envision some sort of swamp collectathon level when I listen to it, haha. I like the way that you have it build up across the entirety of the track. Good work!
