I think if you send them the whole folder of the character (that contains the 'images' subfolder and 'character.json' file) and have the recipient place it in their own 'characters' folder it should appear in the dropdown when they (re-)open Honk

Sounds like it might be an issue of how your layers are set up. I had a similar experience when starting out, if you put the closed eyes on the same layer as your mouthshapes, they'll both display on the base model on top of it and can't display a mouth shape at the same time for some reason. Set up your base model so there's an eyes open and eyes closed version on the same layer for blinking then set up your mouthshapes on the layer on top of that.

This took some trial-and-error for me, but I think i got it figured out:
When you create a new layer and set your base sprite, click on the layer name in the bottom right so the sprite is highlighted, and the emote selection will become a select/deselect toggle for which emote slots that sprite will appear in. In my setup, my neutral expression is in slot 1, so my base and blink sprite are in one layer and assigned only to that slot, and other expressions are set up the same way in slots 2, 3, 4, etc. Then all mouth shape sprites are on their own layer and apply to all emote slots
