Encounter a bug? Let me know here!

I'd appreciate if you included...

  •  Bug description
  •  Steps taken before encountering the bug
  •  Screenshots

First of all, love this and thank you so much!

Running into a small bug that isn't too pressing but does pop up every time I open it.

- Description: When you open a character for the first time after opening HONK, if you have a large zoom value, it will start zoomed in further than it should until you jiggle the zoom value and the system resets the displayed zoom back to the expected range.

- Steps: Set a character's zoom to a large amount (not sure if character needs to also be large, but all my tests have been with 1920x1080 or larger images)  such as a value above 1500, reopen HONK, open the character. You will see the zoom is further in than expected.

Interesting... THANK YOU FOR A VIDEO! That is super useful.

Expect a fix for this in the next Beta. I'll likely have it up this weekend.

EDIT: It's up : )

Thank you again for the fix!

Hello! I cannot seem to change the mic to detecting my blue yeti? It seems to be defaulting to my webcam mic and it's not picking up any audio. Is there a way to set it to my main microphone?

Developer

I also responded on Twitter, but here's the text from there for anyone else encountering this issue:

Y'know, I think 1.0 has a bug with the dropdown. There's a mic icon in the top of HONK that usually lists them. You can download Beta 3 for now or change your System Default Mic which should have it grab the right one.

I'll fix it this evening and upload a new build.

For some odd reason David and Honk are still shaking even when I remove the shake.

This is not on purpose right? It must be a bug.

Developer

I'll look into it. Did you disable the bouncing AND rotating?

(1 edit)

Isn't the disabling part only from one place?

K I found how to disable the rotating but it seems that it was disabled all along so it is some bug where even if it's disabled it still starts.

I touched the image icon on the selection and it got fixed.

The lipsync happens a full second after I speak.

Developer

Looking into this. I've occasionally experienced this, but not consistently. Usually a restart resolved it. If it consistently occurs for you lmk because I may want to get some debug info from your build.

(+1)

I will also say that based on recordings I've done, any time I've had it running for more than 3 minutes it starts to desync rather suddenly. When this desync is occurring I've noticed a sizeable delay between when I speak and when the mic gain bar registers audio input.

Developer

Hm... Okay. I'll have to try out debugging it on some other machines. Difficulty reproducing.

Watch out for a 2.1 release, I'll address this in the next patch if I can figure out what's going on.

I can email over a file of the delay I caught on mine if you'd like? I'm having delay issues as well.

I'm not sure if this classifies as a bug or what, but the pixel perfect scaling option has been inaccurate to what I've been providing.

Here is an example of an image that I am using for a project, and here is what is looks like with the zoom set to the "1:1 Pixel Perfect Scaling" option within the program. For the most part the image looks fine save for some errant regions of pixels which I have no means of mitigating the effect of. Sprites look fine at 2:1 scaling and beyond, but lower than 1:1 is not preferable as it produces unfavorable results.

Developer

This is definitely odd... Could you ZIP the character folder for this and email it to honk@dreamtoaster.com ? Having it as a reference would be very helpful for solving this and getting a patch out ASAP.

Love that you're making this by the way! I really really love Ace Attorney.

Description: When you delete a base but keep the blink, it will remove the layer from the hierarchy and remove all rotation from characters, causing them to go into a hilarious frenzy

- Steps: Open a character, remove the base from the eyes. Click out. Hilarity ensues.

Description: Background color keeps changing back to a previously set background color while in use.

Steps: I'm honestly not sure. Before streaming, I was messing around with the background colors to see what would key out best. Magenta was the best so I set it to that then saved, then mid stream it kept switching back to blue multiple times.

Side note: You can see that I also get a decent amount of lag! Not sure what to do about that.

if you ctrl Z it will undo any changes u made, you'll need to change save the BG then close honk and with a fresh start it hopefully stops, however sometimes the save isnt working for me

Issues with OBS

i got it to work with streamlabs, but it wont work with OBS, as a game capture it wont show up, and as a display capture it just shows an image of it, but wont detect any movement or changes in obs

i figured it out. had to change from capture automatic to windows 10

Not really a big bug, but the voice recognition seems to be enhanced for low man voices. I noticed it wasn't choosing the right expressions when i began to sing higher. But your own youtube tutorial looked smooth like butter.

Hi there, I might have a couple things, 1. not sure if this is a bug or a feature, when not tabbed into the program, the hotkeys still register from any other program. Thus if you control + (N E Z R Y S) in photoshop or another program, it also triggers the hotkey in Honk. As I make art, the undo from photoshop then hits undo in Honk even though the app is not the active window.  2. When I remap the hotkeys for emotes I have to reset them each time. It doesn't matter if I have saved or not.

Developer(+1)

This is definitely a bug!!! I'll make sure this is fixed in the next release.

awesome, thank you! The funniest part is when I'm merging layers in photoshop (ctrl+e) and then the characters eyes slowly slide out of place and the whole thing becomes a cryptid over time. XD

(+2)

Oop, I'm having the "undo" issue as well! Any time I hit CTRL+Z and HONK isn't the main active window (and even minimized), the program executes the undo command! ; 0;/

Just noticed one today, HONK will no longer detect any of my audio devices. it worked fine the other day no it just says "no mic detected" when all my other software is working fine. Any ideas?

Developer

Hm... That's definitely odd! I'm curious if this persists. Let me know if a reboot does anything, if not try launching it with some apps closed. I'll try reproducing it on my end.

Im not sure if this is a bug or not, or just a setting I may be missing, but when I start the HONK program it seems to shut down any other output. If I have music playing in my headphones/speakers and start HONK the music is cut off, it'll still be playing but without sound, until I close HONK. Is there a way to stop this?

Hi sorry to bother you, but I just bought this and the mouth does not move for me.

(as soon as I ran the program, it did not work)

The mouth does not move despite whatever I do.

Change the input, the avatar, or move the input slider, all to naught while my audio is being picked by the program, as it feedbacks.

I tried both the 2.0 and 1.01 versions and neither worked on my streaming laptop. (I have a 2 pc set-up)

However, when I tested it out on my gaming Desktop, everything works fine.

when not in edit mode, the mouth does not move, but the audio can be heard via feedback.

however, everything else DOES work.

please do let me know if I can help figure out the issue in any way.

Kind Regards, Enzoroks

[EDIT] I got the program working again, in case if anyone gets this problem... this MIGHT be a windows issue. (it was in my case). reinstall the DirectX, vc_redist (64 bit/32 bit), then restart your pc. this was all i needed to fix the program not picking up the audio.

[EDIT] I got the program to work as intended. (A WINDOWS FIX)

In case if anyone gets this problem... this might help.
Find and reinstall the DirectX and vc_redist (64 bit/32 bit) for windows, then restart your pc.
This was all i needed to fix the program not picking up the audio.

Hey! I know this is probably an itch.io issue, but I purchased the tool, but itch.io said my ZIP code was not able to be validated or something. I look at my charges, and itch.io charged me.. I've contacted support but it's been  over an hour and I'm a bit impatient. Do you think you can help me out in some way, or should I just wait for a response from the support team? A reply would be appreciated, thanks!!!

Such a cool tool! I just started using it and its amazing.

I have found a couple of bugs tho.
#1: occasionally, I will get an image the comes in and kind of locks to the import point? I included images.
I can move the asset around, but when activated and I start talking, the asset will revert back to the import point.
I tried two computers, saving and reloading a couple of times.
eventually, i saved a new asset and did a new name and moved it to another emote slot and it seems to have fixed it.

#2: I stream art and use OBS a lot, both use CTRL + Z to undo things, and even tho the window is not active, Honk is undoing my model as I work. Hopefully you guys know a fix for this, because this makes the model un-usable for me at the moment. As Undo is function I use constantly while streaming.

(+1)

I also have this issue as well! It's really frustrating because it undo's everything that was properly set up before.
Honk is still an amazing program! It would be nice to have a way to lock the shortcuts that way whenever we press ctrl + z or ctrl + e, it wouldn't affect the model

(+1)

Oh so THAT'S what causing it. Well, that's super unfortunate, I also am an artist and my model breaks almost every time I stream since CTRL+Z is used super frequently.

I've even re-created the model's layers (there are a lot, with different emotes/emotions, too) and kept the same resolution for all of them (500x800 for example) so I wouldn't have to manually move them on the canvas. Turns out that didn't help, the eyes keep going out of the boundary, and pieces keep 'disconnecting' from the body.  The only fix is to recreate the model with the 5 different emotions, which takes forever.

Do we know when the next bug fixes batch is going to arrive? I absolutely LOVE HONK but it's getting tedious to have to re-rig the model every other day.

(+1)

Yup! Ctrl + e, centers the model in honk and then Ctrl + z just undoes everything!
I rigged the hand to move along my pen whenever I draw and it only works when the client is not minimize, but then  if it's not minimized, it gets affected by the 2 shortcuts, but when it is minimized on the tray it doesn't get affected by the shortcuts, but the eye tracking doesn't work. I hope this gets patched somehow? Other than that, still love the program!!

(+1)

Yeah same! Thanks for confirming that bug. It's pretty annoying! I love HONK but this bug kills it so much for artists.

Developer

Looking into #1... odd.

#2 is fixed in 3.0! That's out now.

I know I'm hopping on this a little late, but has #1 been fixed yet? I'm having that right now with my character's mouth teleporting to the import point as soon as I start talking, and I used to have it on my character's eyes whenever they blinked but that problem has disappeared now.

I'm having the same problem on my end! No matter how many times I reload, save, or adjust things, the image "locks" on the import point - but for me it only happens when my mic picks up.

(+1)

I'm having a similar issue as well; I wish there could be a fix!!

I've found that aligning the item you want to the desired location and pressing CTRL + E recenters the item to its new position. Helped me resolve that issue so I hope it helps you too! (Don't forget to save once it's recentered btw.)

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a setting that I am missing, but as I stream my character model's mouth randomly disappears , and the blinking eyes png pop up ONTOP of the open eyes. I cant really get the timing right to get a screen shot.

Sounds like it might be an issue of how your layers are set up. I had a similar experience when starting out, if you put the closed eyes on the same layer as your mouthshapes, they'll both display on the base model on top of it and can't display a mouth shape at the same time for some reason. Set up your base model so there's an eyes open and eyes closed version on the same layer for blinking then set up your mouthshapes on the layer on top of that.
