Thank you so much and thanks for playing the demo! if you were to play the full version, try the third person mode, it will help you move better and escape from the killer more easily :)

Hi Smexch! First of all, thank you for playing, I really enjoyed watching your gameplay! It was heartbreaking to see you die right before escaping 😄 The version you played was an earlier one. The latest build includes several improvements: the controls (especially third-person) have been refined, and there’s now full controller support. With these updates, the game feels a bit easier compared to the version you played. We aimed to recreate that classic old-school challenge. There are no checkpoints on purpose, but with some persistence and learning the patterns, escaping is definitely possible! I can’t wait to see you tackle the next chapter!
Yes, in the sense that if you manage to circle around the killer, you can dodge the blow, and he will stop, giving you time to escape :) I can imagine that it’s complicated, and we’re already working on it! :D As for the rest… si siamo italiani! nel prossimo aggiornamento prova nuovamente a schivare il killer e ci dai il tuo feedback aggiornando il tuo commento principale! grazie del feedback :)
Hi Luca! I can assure you there is a way to dodge the killer’s attack :) The attack range was slightly increased because the killer stops when attacking, and we didn’t want to make it too easy for the player to escape. Would you prefer a slightly shorter attack range with an easier dodge mechanic? Also, did you play in first-person or third-person view?
Based on player feedback, we’ll definitely consider making tweaks, updates, and balance changes. If you’d like to discuss potential changes or improvements, feel free to contact me by email — I’ll be happy to take your suggestions.

Smiling Terror is a retro-style survival horror game inspired by PS1 classics. Players awaken in a mysterious train depot, where they must escape while evading a relentless killer known as “The Smiler.” The game features fixed camera angles, stealth mechanics, and a chilling atmosphere reminiscent of 90s survival horror games.

We are excited to announce that the game has officially left Early Access and is now available as its first stable release!
This milestone marks the completion of months of updates, testing, feedback, and improvements. The game is now more polished, balanced, and optimized, featuring:
- Full Controller Support
- Optional Third-Person Mode
- Improved camera system
- General optimizations and numerous bug fixes
- New environmental details and enhanced story elements
Thank you to everyone who supported the project from the very beginning! If you purchased the game on itch.io, you will be able to request a Steam key if and when the game is released on Steam.

First of all, thank you so much for your feedback – it’s truly appreciated! Every comment helps us improve the game, and I’m really glad you took the time to play it.
That said, we’re currently working on the next update, which will add more visual details to the map to help players avoid getting disoriented so easily. We also have several other features in the works, such as a checkpoint system, so players won’t have to start over from the beginning after dying.
As you probably noticed, Smiling Terror is heavily inspired by classic PS1 titles. We didn’t just aim for the visual style, but also tried to bring back the challenge of those games. Just think of Mickey’s Wild Adventure for PS1 – a “kids’ game” with brutal difficulty, where losing all your lives meant starting all over again. I want to keep some of that spirit alive, without making the game too easy.
(For example, I didn’t even want to include a third-person view at first – I developed it later on to help players who aren’t used to fixed-camera movement.)
As for the flashlight: after collecting the batteries and the flashlight, you need to combine them in the inventory to make it work. Press Tab to access the inventory :)
Keep playing and I promise you’ll eventually make progress! Stay tuned on my itch.io page – I’ll always post devlogs whenever a new update is released. And when you feel like giving it another try, we’ll be happy to have you back!
I invite you to see the gameplay of “Gaming with Zems” according to one of the best gameplay Gameplay video
Thanks again – your feedback is truly valuable. See you soon!
