i feel like i'm missing something, all i was able to do was drive around and then die very quickly. aside from not fully understanding what to do. everything was really well done.

fail screen does not disappear, and you can hear yourself still playing in the background (using firefox if that helps) other than that i really like this game

thanks for playing, and the feedback!

thank you so much! yeah i really struggled with what to draw to convey what was needed

no worries, thank you for your  feedback!

thank you for the feedback! that may be a bug, but since i did the art i have no idea lol

i believe there was an issue with speed due to fps issues.  thank you for your feedback!

10/10 great game, love how dark it got :)

thank you for the feedback! yeah sadly we had to really limit what we could add for upgrades (time *sigh)

controls always drifting to the right for some reason. good job with the game, i cant do horror though.

very well done, way too scary for me. couldn't figure out how to not die in time. props to the sound person, you are the reason this is too scary <3

loved your game btw its one of my faves! <3

thank you for your feedback! yeah we wanted to add control prompts but ran out of time

thank you for the feedback! :)

well done! i liked everything about it

damn i'm sorry. i got snatched up in another team.

did you find a composer/SFX yet?

(1 edit)

i don't know if i would be the right fit but i do make music (only electronic) and sfx as well as 2d art.  let me know if you are up for chatting so se if we can work something out. discord: dreanki

have you found anyone yet? i can do art, basic animation, music and SFX.  i work in a team normally but our coder is swamped with his day job. -Lizabet (discord: dreanki)

biting off way more is the best way to learn. i think you guys did great. for a game jam its extremely good. i wrote what i did because i could see this as a commercial game.

i would say the sfx and the 2d art were the best parts of the game.

the concept is great, but in practice i find it very frustrating because of the camera weirdness.

the fact that i kept getting stun locked and half of the hits not registering was what ultimately led me to stop playing.

list of things i found that could be improved on:

1. when you cant see and need to use the bell, some walls are invisible and you can see through the world making it confusing to navigate.

2. swipes from the player character don't always land making combat inconsistent and frustrating.

3. getting stun locked by enemies is probably the most frustrating of all and was the #1 thing that made me stop playing.

4. there was no way to know i could jump up to a bell in the first level, it was only through getting stuck and running around in circles and thinking that was all the game offered, when i found a lower wall and tried to see if i had a jump function and tried to get up.

5. after the bell cut scene i died and had to watch the cut dialog again. i know writers want their work to be seen , but please add the ability to skip through dialog. i never read dialog and i know a lot of players don't.

6. camera sensitivity and controls are not consistent between normal and bell mode. causing the camera to jump around, it is very disorienting. i would suggest just having it as one button that preforms the action based on where the character is looking without going into a different mode. (this will make exploring more enjoyable)

7. the camera was constantly obstructed by the trees, making it so i couldn't see who i was fighting. please make trees and anything else that could block the camera semi transparent, or have an outline for the character and enemies so you can see what you are doing.

8. after the cut scene i was just teleported to some place, and didn't know where i was. i lost all of my orientation. before the cut scene i had seen where i thought i should go/wanted to go. but was thrown off completely after the cut scene.

9. please add a settings button to the title screen, the game was so loud on start. the lack of settings button on the title screen led to to think that there were no settings at all. it wasn't until i paused much later that i saw there was infarct a settings button.

10. running animation is desynced enemies move too slow for the animation. which leads them to look like they are kinda floaty. (don't know if that is something you were going for intentionally)

11. some sound effects are missing. there is no swipe sound from the player character when there are no enemies. i don't remember there being a jumping sound either (but i could be wrong)

what i thought was good:

1. the art direction was great

2. concept was also good (things just need to be refined so it feels better and has less friction)

3. SFX were well done and didn't stand out of feel wrong

4. 2d art way very nice to look at and felt very professional

5. UI was non obstructive and looked great

6. title screen was chefs kiss

7. when it was easier i wanted to explore a lot (driving force to continue playing)

8. i think this game has the potential to be a very enjoyable game

i write all this because i think the game could be really good, it is in no way an attempt to make anyone feel bad. i am writing as a fellow game dev that cant help but playtest anything i get my hands on lol.

i hope this helps <3

cute game :)

thank you so much! we are happy you liked it!

-Lizabet

thank you! :D

hi, thank you for playing! glad you enjoyed it!

i believe someone from the team already played and rated your game :)

-Lizabet

i want to try your game but i'm too scared, looks really good though!

thank you for playing!

yeah sadly we ran out of time for making all those polish improvements that we wanted :)

I got as far as the 8th puzzle before my brain tapped out in exhaustion. Amazing puzzles across the board and an excellent implementation of the jam theme!

Yeah I had to figure that out for one of our games, man it was a mess and took me a whole month of on and off solving. There are lots of weird quirks with the Godot Engine I've had to solve (If you have high refresh rate you can actually see one of those quirks in both our jam game and your game)

Writing this for Lizabet since she didn't know how to word the controls feedback properly, and I both watched her play this game and I also gave it a try! She ended up rebinding the grapple to Right Trigger as it was more convenient for her. Rebindings weren't too clear since they were the default Godot naming (Instead of Circle it just says Joypad Button 1, as an example).

Also we noticed that for the console buttons on the game's main page the Super Jump Button (Circle) and Grapple Button (Square) were actually switched around in-game (Circle was Grapple, Square was Super Jump).
UPDATE: Just beat it with controller (moose_2 in leaderboards), no issues found. Probably just user error/misunderstanding.

As for my playthrough I played via keyboard and didn't have any real issues with the controls. I managed to beat it (My score is named as "moose"). I thought the game was a great entry and it was a really cool twist on the theme with evolution, I didn't see that much from the games I tried in the jam.

very well done,i loved everything you did with this, i couldn't finish because i'm so bad at platformers. the additions you had with the evolution made it a lot  easier for me. control scheme could be improved, played with a controller and the key bindings worked :)

the one thing i think needs to be better is the tongue swing build up, that felt way too slow.

-Lizabet

thank you so much for playing! :) it was great feedback. we already have a patch ready for after the jam to hopefully fix the common issues, we want to have more interesting and involved levels and make it better over all. <3

-Lizabet

its my favorite movie, i watch it at least once per year :) it always make me super happy when i see others using quotes from it, as i do that often too!!

thank you so much! we are happy you had fun with it. :)

-Lizabet

Really cool concept! Hitting multiple enemies bunched together was very satisfying.

Also the ball you play having some kind of obscure narrative was interesting. Never played a game with ball lore, personally. Great job on this one!

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the goblin smacking.

thank you :)
