1. It was never about recycling assets.
Designing new character models is my favorite task during development.
I'm sitting on a bunch of good models that may never get used.
I had to brush up the TM-based models for HHR quite a bit to make them 'competitive'.
Adding characters based on TM girls was more an "emotional attachment" decision than anything else.
2. HHR was my 2nd "IP", TM my 3rd (not counting the discarded ones in between).
I'm also just into stuff like worldlines and alternate realities in general.
Think more "Fate/stay night" or "Steins;Gate", though.
My only noteworthy contact with DC Comics stuff was the first 2 Arkham games, so no idea about the degree of similarity.
Generally not much of a fan of western stuff, honestly.
3. I don't really care much about success or money.
In fact, I kind of expected in advance HHR would be less popular than TM.
I see where you're coming from, but I've mentioned before (not just in comments) that update 0.2 would be more of a "when it's done" update anyway, since it'll be fairly big, so it was always going to be at least 2, more likely 3 months even in a best-case scenario.
HHR has fairly many characters right off the bat, and I want to avoid the situation of Corrupted Kindoms' Act 3 in its early days, where it took several updates before it was really playable and had any content worth mentioning.
It would be a different story if the game was already on a regular release cadence, but...
in this case, an announcement would've amounted to "instead of I don't know when, it's now I don't know when +1 month or so".
I guess one could argue I should've done more pre-production, better planning, released 0.1 later etc., but hindsight is 20/20.
Also, I'm an introvert, I only communicate when I feel I have to and prefer to focus on the actual game development.
You won't see me fix that trend, I'm afraid ^^'
That being said, starting with 0.3 the plan is to have an update at least every 5-6 weeks, and any delays to that would be announced, yes.
In general, they aren't the exact same girls, just heavily based on their TM predecessors.
If HHR even played in the TM world at all, it would be in some alternate timeline/worldline/"what if".
What's canon in your TM playthrough remains canon in your TM playthrough, namely that they lived happily ever after with the TM MC.
Will take a while, at least another month.
Next update will add sandbox and we want it to have enough content from the start, so it'll be nearly as much work as the first release, which took nearly 2 months to make (not counting character designs and over-arcing plot, which I've been working on for over a year).
> Your last game got NTR in the final update.
That's not true.
I still think that some optional memories from a time long before they even met the MC aren't NTR. NTR would be actual cheating on someone.
You can complain that some of the maids weren't exactly pure, but that's about it.
Also, the Carnal Crystal was added to TM nearly a year ago, including several of the scenes in question (and most dreams were added in 2022), so neither the "NTR" nor the "got it in the final update" are correct.
But I digress.
> This time you have HAREM in the damn title, and a statement declaring "NO NTR", so can you be trusted this time or you going to bait & switch again?
It was never meant to be "bait and switch", and more an issue of me not fully understanding at the time I added the dreams and Carnal Crystal what people expect when they see "harem" (and underestimating how intolerant some people are towards optional content).
But yes, I've put it like that for a reason.
There'll be some (but not much) avoidable lesbian content in HHR, but you're the only male character in that world just like the description states, and no dreams or memories this time, either.
HHR was always meant to be a purer harem experience, but on top of that by now I'm genuinely fed up of people bringing up the topic all the time, so I'd never make anything like the CC or dreams from TM ever again anyway.
> Also, reusing characters in different games is incredibly lazy.
If you feel that way, I guess there's nothing I can do about it.
Personally, I like characters re-appearing in other games.
In any case, this has been decided since October 2022 and a good chunk of the story revolves around one of them, plus quite a few TM players are actually excited to see them again. This was a conscious choice for story reasons, not some "oh great, I can save work that way".
You'll also be able to ignore some of them to a degree.
Besides, if we include side characters, the final game will likely exceed 50 girls, so I don't think 3 or 4 of them being similar-but-not-identical reappearances isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things.
Hey, thanks for the feedback!
> Giving them some different sides, depth which TM ones were kinda
> lacking, some cool backstory & role in the plot, or maybe even make
> em evolve into a different person
I can't comment too much without spoilers, let's just say: I agree that rehashing characters without good reason would be boring.
Let's just say I did put some more thought into this than currently meets the eye.
I don't know if everyone will be happy with the result by the end of the VN, but... I'm fairly confident in what I have in store, development- and story-wise :-)
Hmm... without a picture of the renpy error message (if there is any), it'll be hard to debug, sorry.
But we plan to migrate to a newer renpy engine version with next update, maybe that'll already solve the issue.
But if you're getting some kind of error message when it crashes, it would help us a lot if you could post it.
Hey, thanks for the feedback.
That scene was written long ago, when I was still a bit more oblivious about what people like and dislike.
I see what you mean.
I'll update the dream version of the scene to be a bit more like the other dreams and make it clearer that it's all only in the main characters' fantasy.
And I guess you're right about the option to change dreams back to memories. Either someone only wants to see what they originally chose, or they could make a savegame at that first choice, so I guess that option was unnecessary.
I'll change that, too.
Hey, thanks for reporting these!
The Emily "issue" is actually intentional, the idea of the 2nd scene is that she wanted to show her enthusiasm and put on that outfit proactively, while from the 3rd time onwards it's just the regular short sandbox interaction.
I guess one could argue about consistency here, but it's not a mistake as such.
Everything else will be fixed in a future update.
There are only 2 dream scenes for her in the main game, a small "daydream" about her in cat lingerie, and the naughtier one you can get at night.
If you've seen both, there are no more than that.
However, there's indeed a small bug that makes the Iris dream option stay visible all the time, instead of moving it to the Dreams section after you saw it once.
We'll patch this soon.
Then it would be best to download it directly via browser, unzip it and start it with the .exe.
Since TM uses the renpy engine, savegames are duplicated in a central system folder, so playing from a different folder should still show all savegames.
You could also try to locate the app folder in which itch installed TM and replace the files with the ones from the direct TM 1.0 download, but I can't guarantee that this would work flawlessly, so solution 1 is still the safer approach.
I kind of forgot.
Although it's in part because I was unsure about it, since I'm a little embarassed about the old Halloween specials nowadays. They're not bad (I think...), but not on the level I would've liked them to be.
Well, I'll update the project cover and page color scheme to a fully Christmas one in December, I'll also add it back to the projects section then.
