Hey! I ended up making an expanded version of the game, if you're still interested https://omich.itch.io/totally-normal-game

(1 edit)

Hello, everyone! 👋 Please give me a moment of your attention. I've spent a lot of time on this project, and I dream that it will gain at least a small audience. This is a development of my other game, which took first place overall on Patch Notes v1.0

In this 2D platformer, you use "bugs" as unique character abilities to help you progress through the game, but the game punishes you for using bugs. The game has deep lore and interesting characters.

It's not a full game yet, it's a demo, but I hope it will gain an audience and I will be able to finish the game.

That's fine, I started doing the same thing over time :)

Thank you! Well, overall, the game was intended to be a slow, turn-based strategy game, but due to the incorrect balance, you eventually start speedrunning it :)

Thank you!

Thank you! Rated

He-he, thank you!

Thank you! Basically the concept is that you need to guess which part is correct by accidentally getting a positive effect. The effects are arranged sequentially, first "coating", then "base", then "filling". That is, if you ate a cookie with chocolate chips and the first effect was positive, and the rest were negative, then you need to look for cookies with the same coating, but different base and filling. This game is initially about noticing and remembering, but in theory yes, it would be possible to reveal certain effects in the description after you have already eaten cookies with components of this type. Regarding hunger, it can be increased up to 5 by eating one of the fruits

Thank you!

My favorite game at this jam out of the ones I played. I don't usually write comments on the games I rate, it's a bit hard for me to express my thoughts in English every time, but here I was impressed by how well thought out everything was, each mechanic is unique, but at the same time you can figure it out even without tutorial. Bravo!

Thank you!

Thank you!

Thank you! Yes, a visual reminder would be a great feature, but this also has its advantages, while playing I unlocked the brain's ability to remember what happened a few seconds ago, which I hadn't paid attention to :D
Thanks for finishing the game, I thought I made the mechanics too complicated for someone to get into it and finish it

Thank you! It's nice to see someone delving into your game and looking for different mechanics there

Thank you! Yeah, I knew about this problem, but for some reason it didn't occur to me how to fix it, I was afraid that people wouldn't notice the message if it wasn't centered

Thank you! Ha-ha, the guy may not have the best family, but at least they are generous enough to set an endless table :)

Thank you! Yes, some mechanics are a bit difficult to understand, it would be better if there was time to create a full-fledged tutorial, I just wrote this information in the text at the beginning of the game.

Thank you!

Thank you! Regarding risk, the original idea I was aiming for was that much of the food you eat has a random effect that can be either positive or negative. For example, there is even food that kills you with a 5% chance, but in contrast, it provides a full heal otherwise. I'm not sure if I managed to fully implement this idea.

Thank you! You can get information about food by right-clicking on it. I didn't make it show on mouseover so that the information wouldn't block the view.

Thank you!

Thank you! Yeah, I made the music at the last moment and did it myself because I wanted to do everything completely on my own, fortunately I made a button to turn off the music just in case after that :D

Thank you!

Thank you. In any case, everyone has their own opinion, but the sample is small, it is difficult to foresee something here, and the most highly rated games really deserve their place.

Ah sorry. Game maker does not want to connect with a virtual machine ;( I can only advise "Wine", it should be easy to open simple games from this contest.

I can try to put a virtual machine and compile game on Linux.
