Sporestride is a 2D action platformer! I wrote the game entirely in Java and created all of the assets myself. The level editor I wrote to create the game's levels is also included, although it is just there to check out; you can't save or load levels.

I am super happy with how this project turned out because I have improved greatly from the last game I worked on !

You can also check out some devlogs I made during development of the game although they my first attempts at YouTube videos so they are not very good. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgCGGCBVAt-W8pLbyOEYICg

Feedback is always appreciated and thanks for playing :)

Hey everyone! I have finally been able to get some more work done on Sporestride now that university is starting to finish up for the semester. In devlog 6, I showcase the second level for the game, along with many other graphical improvements.

Next up is more enemies, more levels, and my best attempt at making some music lol.

Using my Custom Level Editor to Create a Level for my Game! Sporestride Devlog #5

Sorry for the delay on this one!

I'm busy with exams and a trip coming up over the next couple of weeks so there will still be some delay before the next devlog.

Sporestride Devlog #4: Backgrounds & Parallax Scrolling

I Finally created a nice thumbnail ! :)

Just finished drawing the title and began work on the background tonight, really happy with how things are turning out so far ! Hopefully  I can get a new devlog out by the end of this weekend.

Not yet! I can upload some stuff with my next devlog though.

Sporestride Devlog #3: Expanding on Player Movement

(1 edit)

Hello everyone! I have been working on my second Java project for a couple months now and I would like to share my work so far. Sporestride is a 2D pixel art based platformer centered around a little mushroom guy. Maybe I will name him Mush for now? Anyways, Mush's main ability is to transform into a spore bubble that can pass through certain obstacles and stick to the environment. The main theme I am going for is a contrast between nature and industrial elements, which will become more apparent as I add more aesthetic features to the levels. The game is written in Java and so far I have a level editor and the core movement mechanics implemented.

I have already made a couple of devlogs on YouTube (the first videos I've ever uploaded before too, hooray!), which you can check out below. Major improvements have been made since these devlogs, so I will be posting a new one in the next couple of days.

My goal with doing these devlogs is to get feedback from the community and hopefully making these will help me stay committed to the project.

Anyways, I really appreciate you checking out this project and I would love to hear feedback!

Sporestride Devlog #2: Saving and Loading Levels!

Part of the level editor's saving and loading functionality has been changed since this devlog, which I will elaborate on in the next one.

Sporestride Devlog #1: Starting the Level Editor & Basic Player Movement

Hello everyone! I would like to share with you all my first completed game Mechanized Mutiny. I actually published the game back in the summer but I have not made a post about it until just now when I gave the game another play to motivate me to begin my next project.

In Mechanized Mutiny you play as a humble sailor that must defend his island home from the invading Cybernetically Augmented Blackbeard and his legion of evil robots! >:) To accomplish this task our sailor friend is equipped with a rusty fishing spear and an EMP grenade to freeze his foes, there is a basic upgrade system, multiple enemy types, a boss at the end (I wonder who that could be ;)) and 10 levels to play through.

The game is by no means perfect and I am sure you will find the odd bug or two however, looking back on it I am quite proud and happy with what I managed to create so that is why I decided to share it.

Thank you for taking the time to give it a try ! :)
