Hello, I'm MxRandom1401 / MsRandom1401, an artist/hobbyist game dev. Together with my small but amazing team of talented friends, our past projects are:
- A Cup For All Season: A short & bittersweet visual novel for Otome Game Jam 2023
- Loki & Sylvie's Disasterous Date! : A Loki (2021) TV Show Fan Game, a non-profit collab project between 15+ fanartists
- Stellar Dilemma: In the depths of space, an Android discovers an unsettling truth during a space mission and has to make a difficult decision about it. Short game for Velox Fabula 2023

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we need 1 (one) WRITER to help us through the visual novel jam (VOLUNTARY POSITION)

Here's the story synopsis for our current project: The game MC (Female) is going through some life crisis and her sister encourages her to do some solo traveling. Will she be able to find herself during her journey and perhaps more? A short romance about a summer love, being on the road, and discovering yourself. The story will be in visual novel medium,  SFW, centering on the experiences of being an adult (25-35 y.o), with two male love interests.

What we WANTED the story to be:
- Realistic, solid, and grounded views of romance and life.
- Character has realistic flaws and sweet moments.
- Writing style reference: "Eat, Pray, Love" (Movie version) and "Our Life: Beginnings and Always"
- VN is more of a "show, not tell".

What we DON'T want the story to be:
- Cheesy American Hallmark movie romances.
- Parody (light silly humor is still allowed)
- Something like "Twilight" or "50 Shades Of Grey"

Job Desc:
- Help the main writer do parts of the story. (Writing 1-3 chapters)
- Expected word count around 4k per chapter (give or take)
- Collaborating with other writers in Google Docs in writing and editing

What we're looking for in an applicant:
- Past writing portfolio (original works/ fanworks are both okay)
- Active Discord account (our work is organized through Discord )
- Experience with visual novel developments and branching storyline writing isn't required as long as the applicant is willing to learn along the way
- Experience and love for traveling (backpacking, etc.) is not obligatory but will be a plus point

These positions will be open until May 11th, 2024, or until we find a suitable person

Thanks for playing!

We're planning to release v2.0 of this game so we'll take the font size into consideration!!

LOLLL that time-limited choice was our  writer's (Andy Calvera) idea who pushed me to implement it
As for the CG, I can safely say our CG artist (Neolights) has been hit by improvement train SO HARD hahaah <3

Thanks for your kind words and thanks for playing too!!!

Eh, my comment is just me iterating everyone's else words: very jam packed narrative in wonderful way, the way you use the MC as briliant unreliable narrator aspect, I'm also bad at playin dectective (not enough braincells lol) so i didn't get good end but still had a good time so yeah, absolutely awesome work for 10 days jam. Gotta catch all the ending laters!!!

Good ambience, and good voice acting too esp. the MC!
Good hints are scattered all over the plot and the payoff works well. Poor MC tho, he didn't ask for this ><
Great job on your first jam!! Keep up the good work!!!!

BUTTTTT lol you're still in it despite all the warnings? Hahahah /j

Thank you very much!!! Back then we don't have too much time other than just shoving the script to our voice actors (ReiverCaptain & Ghostbot) so we just did trust fall on them without giving any voice acting direction and they didn't disappoint!!!!!

As for the plot, you can thank our writer Andy_Calvera for that, she's good at tugging hearts with the story and working with the material she has given to hahahh <3<3

Thanks for the nice comment and thanks for playing too!!!!

oh well, i feel bad to those ppl who got less ratings but thanks for clearing things up :D

Ok who the hecc y'all all making a game based on my thoughts feeling trapped in a time loop at 3 PM  during office hours? Y'all FRIGGIN genius!!!! LOLOLOL
Also that line from Francoise "Believe me, if you're under thirty, you're a toddler in my eyes" is sooo funny and relatable to me
And the very minimum usage of character asset is a very clever way to work efficiently during a jam like this!!!
And oh, the vibes are scary enough (at least for a scared-y cat like me) I ended up muting the music and played the rest of the game listening to silly songs like Da Coconut Song halfway through so I could finish the game hahahah (which is good for ur game!!!!)

Wonderful job, 10/10 don't wanna trapped in time loop lol

OKAY I DID FINISH THE GAME!!!!
Glad nothing scares me too much but the threat of getting some jumpscare or smth really scary is wonderfully potrayed
The marriage between Cosmic Horror and the dread of corporate life mixed very well. This game is definitely my fave of the faves out of the bunch (not because I'm biased to Cosmic Horror and happy to see how I feel about corporate work described well here, no sireeeeee!!!!)

Again, THANK YOU for this friggin game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weeeeellll it's already hinted everywhere... xD

Also I think our voice actors (ReiverCaptain & GhostBot) at this point need a big cabinet to store all the compliments given to them hahahhaa

Thanks for playing and your kind words !!!!

(1 edit)

Since we got bug that makes the event holder unable to distribute voters evenly and instead letting devs vote freely, what will happen with the entry who got least ammount of votes? Is there any disadvantages for that?

(2 edits)

The SFX!! FOR THE DIALOGUE!! MAKES ME LAUGH IN GOOD WAY HAHAHAHA XDD
Also, the portrayal of Kafkaesque bureaucracy hell, how I can feel it in my bones and that's the real horror of the game  *Shivers* (and yeah that's how corporate work makes you end with dead eyes like all those employees lololol /j)
And the color palette of the game!! I love how it's used in a very effective way.
Next, the UI for the menu and the point-and-click element delightfully surprised me!

I haven't completed the game cuz it's already night and I'm too chickened out (which is good for this game!!) to see the endings so I will wait till daylight to finish it up. Might add some extra comments here after I finish it ahahahaha

Until then, Wonderful job!! Good luck polishing the game after the voting period ends since I feel there's so much more potential in it!!!!

(1 edit)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO got the good ending on the first try but replayed it some more to see more things and wasn't disappointed!!!!
I love the comfy atmosphere and your take on the theme. And oh boi, our boyo Marcello is truly the star of the game! I love how expressive he is compared to other entries not to mention the partial VN!!! Caro mio Marcelloooooooo!!! <-- ended up being incapable of being subtle like the MC lololol

Great job, very enjoyable experience!

AAHHHH this game reminds me of old renpy games I played in the late 2000s / early 2010s in an excellent way. It's simple but gives me that nostalgic feeling I didn't know I could feel some more in the present day. And you're definitely braver than a dragon slayer for being courageous enough to submit an entry despite you only drawing for a month!!!

I love the story and all the twist you present here, kudos!!!

yeeeaaaahhhh hahahahah xD

!!!!!!!!!!!!?

I didn't expect you really come all out and give all the details in paragraphs so thank you so much!!!!!

You really never dissappoint since the days you started to post BP Quest contents aaaaaaaaAa

ahhh thank you for your kind words!!!!

We really lucky to have our voice actors (ReiverCaptain and Ghostbot) doing their stellar (ehe) work for this jam.

As for the decisions and narrative, I'm thankful for our solo writer (Andy_Calvera) who willing to speedrun the story in 3 days (!!!) and still come out with something wonderful  ><b

Thank you for playing and your kind words!!!

Ahhh thank you, another win for my UI Artist (Oli Fox) since people keep complimenting the UI hahaha
Also the voice acting (ReiverCaptain and Ghostbot) too! All those DnD roleplay with various voices do pay off esp. for Reiver hahahah

Thank you for your kind words!!!

(1 edit)

Distinct visual and I didn't know Unreal can be used for visual novel too!
Maybe I Should try later when I got time to try a new engine hahahha!
Great idea on using metahumans as visual asset resource too :D

Wonderful job :D

(1 edit)

Okok, seriously, how the heck did you manage to write 12K (!!!!!) of words AND make visual assets for this game in 10 days????

As an artist who can't write I get how you pull the visual part (by making a lot of clever & efficient work decisions while keeping things looking sophisticated which props for you!!!) but the writing???? I can't wrap that one, like, please tell me how you pulled such a miracle as a solo dev?* I read your devlog too but I'm still confused hahahah

Overall, another wonderful work from you as always, nice selection of music, and the bad end sounds are appropriately eerie. And I like your character design and execution too (Lenore seems like my type so oh my *blush*)

Thoroughly awesome job and efficiently executed idea within such strict time constraints!!!

*No pressure to answer me tho, just want to learn hahahah

Short, simple, and hits the spot. Just like key lime pie.

Very cute story, I like it. And I also like this checks the trope of "Grandparents doing questionable things to woo each other" albeit in a very wholesome way hahahah

Great job! Despite its shortness, it delivers the narrative well <3

"Enjoyed" as in "enjoyed it behind the sofa cuz creepies" hahahahah
Kinda too scary for me but the story is really intriguing so this is still worth the sleepness night I'll probably have hahahah

You're welcome!!

How the heck does this only have 4 ratings specifically for this jam at the time this comment is written??

It's impressive that in 10 days, we got a game really jam-packed narrative and lovely visuals too (My highlight was obviously the characters and the UI)

The family leaving MC for a trip part feels hurtfully realistic (No, I'm definitely not projecting lololol), the initial cozy feeling with some hints of unsettling feeling gives me goosebumps aaaaaaaaa ;w;b

The game's an amazing experience indeed <3

;)

alajsdalsjd;asjd;aljda;ksjdlaksdjlakkjal 5 star across the board for that single twist XDDD

(1 edit)

OHHH i know people are talking about the creepy twist (which is awesome indeed) but I really like the character designs!

And that silly little fella at the beginning (don't want to be spoiler-y here lol)
Great comic relief provider XDD

Great job !

But it's more exciting this way and it's.... IN SPACE
XDDD

asdjasdaljshdlajshdlajsdhalds

I love the art style and how the game uses colors. The visual is warm and lovely, it gives me Our Life: Beginnings and Always vibes but with the game's own style and different feel at the end.
I like how the game's narrative makes me emotional according to the plot, especially at the ending.
Also great use of Renpy 8 new speech bubble feature, it makes the dialogue easier to read and digest.

Wonderful job!!!

OOOOO This game makes me interested in the game engine this game uses, I think I'll check it later 👀

I love the suspects especially the last one, I like the twist too, and how it fits the given theme.
Oh, and the use of the visual assets to tell the story, it's great despite being minimalistic.

Great job !!

Thank you very much!!! Our UI artist (oli fox) worked hard on it!!!

(1 edit)

My regret for this jam is I think I should be more able to read my writer's notes since there was some mistakes in the plot and choices implementation and some time management (I kinda procrastinate and beat TOTK instead orz) that made me doing some crunch at the end of the jam (I still feel the effect 2 days later orz orz). But NGL for this jam I feel have more things to be grateful for compared to last jam because I got a number of new people helping me and that relieves the burden very much. I'm glad asking for help by posting job openings so I have more humane working tempo this jam. And the visual improves a lot from my past work so that's another thing to be proud of :D

I don't know what future holds (since I got some IRL stuff coming up) but if I can , I'll be happy to join this jam again. Thank you for this opportunity!!!!
