Playtesters taking a while to get how the compass rotates worried me a little, but as you said, once it clicks, the game really opens up! Glad you liked the audio, the sfx work was more ambitious than any of my previous projects, and I always make the music for my games (the OST is linked in the game's page... and here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoeLq4Ux3TxLtWorEpIeAGS4IAWPRZ1aZ). Thanks for playing!
Thanks for the review, I’m glad you thought it was polished! The last game jam I participated in was Ludum Dare which has a much stricter deadline, so I’m used to working really hard in a short amount of time to make something I’m proud of. This game really was a step up from my previous game jam game, and the extra time really helped! I explained how I interpreted the theme in the game’s description if you’re interested.
Fun game with an admittedly creative interpretation of the theme, although it took a few seconds of wandering around aimlessly before I understood what I was supposed to do. Maybe a short piece of text at the start saying something like "You are Death, and you need to be useful by fixing broken tech" would've helped.
As a fellow mediocre game dev I can give you some advice. I didn't try out the game because the minimum price is over $0, I know $0.07 isn't a lot of money but it's still spending money on a game which might not be worth spending money on (no offence). itch.io has a feature where you can make a game free but have an option for the players to donate when they download the game. I would recommend using that for your games so your players can "chec kit out", especially for a "mediocre" game.
I hope you get something positive out of this and I wish you the best in your game development adventures.
Edit: fixed first sentance (used to be "a fellow game mediocre dev")
