Thats annoying. I do think I know why. If I am correct, I assume you dont have 7zip or winrar installed? If not, I know how to fix it, otherwise, Idk whats going on. But I will definitely give your game a try. As you can see from my blog post here, I got quite a few more people than I excepted. I will get around to each game I play and write a review on it and rate it but it may take me a while to get to here!

Need I say more?

If I must say more, I will say that its really fun. I love the simple physics aspects. Like putting together the food. putting the meat in the grinder, flipping the burger, and the best thing of all is that when the waitress is talking to you, if you spam click her, she gets very loud and loops the sound over and over. Anyway, definitely really fun. The only thing I would change is adding arrows to things you can click. I didn't realise I could run away from the monster the first time in the woods. I just sat there and took it. And it took me a while to realise where I get the meat from. But if you just added arrows, for me personally, that would make this game almost perfect.
Oooh. This plays nice. I love that this looks like a PS1 game and the 2d sprites in a 3d area. Its like doom style but better. I also love rogue like games and this is like a rogue like except for you can rebirth.
I love the idea of levelling up exponentially. Getting a damage boost, beating the game again, getting a fire rate boost, restarting, and continue. its really fun. I have on criticism though which I was really sad wasn't in the game.
I WISH that as you levelled up, the waves got larger. I wish more things spawned, different types of enemies existed, different types of ammo, etc. That would have been great. But just like a lot of other games in this jam, 5 days is brutal. Nobody can make their game as they envision at the start. Your game here, it's definitely a start. It is a lot farther than just a start. It is literally a working game that is entertaining to play. But if you were able to add more detail to the game to really increase the length a player can play it, it would be great.
I managed to get my damage up to level 11 and bullet speed very high too. This made it so I was blasting through the waves very quickly. It would have been amazing if I had more enemies to fight. I also think that my health was too high, or the enemies didn't do enough damage. I was able to quickly walk away from the enemies bullets. I think that you could have a look at enemy aim predictions? If they get your movement direction and speed and fire to where you should end up would make this game a lot more challenging!
Overall, great game. Love the style. Really fun to play.
Oh, sorry! Didn't see this reply. I wouldn't say its too repetitive. But I would say the pacing felt odd? Not in a really bad way. But for example, at the start of the game, I walked over to the guy to battle him, I lost, then I get teleported back to where I started. I get this is probably because I died and I was meant to go back there but I would say that it would be better to be defeated and then be told I was defeated and have a choice on whether to respawn, or continue. That way I know what will happen. I will know if I am going to be teleported back or I know I was defeated and I know I need to walk back and back track.
This is just what I personally think though. You made the game so its ultimately what you prefer to have. I do have one other note though, I do think the lava is too detailed? It was very bright and nearly blended with the environment. I also thought that the lava animation could be changed a little bit. It goes from one frame to the other and repeats. It feels like too big of a leap and it looks like its constantly changing into a different type of lava instead of just plain flowing lava.
For me personally, if these changes were added, it would take the game from an 8/10 game jam game to a 10/10 game jam game!
Oh man. If there was ever a reason for me to not be a detective. I am not good at picking up clues. It took me a while to understand what I was doing and how I play but after I realised how and what, it was actually really good. I love how the game isn't made easy. It actually needs the player to try and engage. I had to actually open up notepad on my computer. I mean, when was the last time you had to open up notepad to beat a game???
I love the artstyle so much. It's a simple looking place. Looks hand drawn and looks like it is made by pencil (although digital art) and it feels like an old style game that you find on the internet. The kind of game that actually makes the internet feel like a place worth exploring. Anyway, what I am trying to say is that I love these types of games. Fun, Simple but difficult, replayable, and small.
If I had to change anything, I would different blips for the player and people. But obviously you can only do so much in the time given. I do love the little animation of the people getting killed. Well. I loved the style. didn't love the death. You get what I am trying to say.
If you are going to take anything from this, please continue making this into a full little game after the jam is over. I would love to be able to play something like this where I just have to figure something out and I win. I dont know many detective games like this.
I love small games like these. Just go in, mess about and find out, avoid doing that again, accidently do that again, respawn, repeat.
The music reminds me as if I am in an arcade walking past the machines and I love it. Also, 10/10 voice acting lol. I wish there was a volume slider (unless I missed it) because I would have liked to make the voice a bit louder than the music. But either way, it's a fun little game where you see what you can do and how far in you can get. I did notice that one of the areas didn't seem fully made. But, hey ho, I really enjoyed seeing what I could do and messing about. Although I am done playing, at least I got a token.... Right?
Despite my PC saying it was 100% a virus, I made a Virtual Machine just in case. Anyway, I can confirm it is 100% a v-ery good game.
Seriously, the style is actually really cool. I love the aesthetic of a real backdrop being converted into a sort of ascii looking scene. I dont even know the word for it. The art is also really cool. I have no idea how you managed to do what you did in just 5 days .
Emma definitely acted 100% appropriately btw by whipping out the gun. That cunt stabbed me. And I didn't even threaten to physically harm him. Plain rude.
I reckon the reason it detected a "virus" is because the game self closes, or maybe it just detected the creepy deer thing (I forget the name) but it actually looks so creepy. Really good job on that. If you had more time, I think what would have elevated this game from a 9/10 to a 11/10 would make it so that after "your desire" has been granted, if you reopen the game, the story would adjust based on what the creature granted. Would be a really creepy and fun twist. Makes it scarier knowing the creature can break the 4th wall and change your save file based on your characters request.
EDIT: I JUST REALISED. OOPS. IGNORE THE PART WHERE I SAID REOPENING THE GAME. NEVERMIND. I JUST HAD TO DO IT TWICE FOR SOME REASON AND IT CHANGED.
For someone who has never coded anything before, you certainly made a great game. If you kept up with the coding, you could probably make an even bigger game with more choice (as if there weren't many choices in your game lol)
I did notice that every time I clicked on a new option, the music would reset. Sounded a bit odd but that doesn't matter. It was still fun to get into the story and get an ending!
This was actually a solid game for a game jam, let alone a first submission and especially being new to game dev! Making games never turn out how you envision them but as long as you put something out there, it can always be polished later on.
Honestly, after this jam is over, I would love to play this again if you took some time into updating the graphics and making them look better. One thing I would improve is making the text go a bit faster? I noticed that it would take a while for me to click to pass the text even after I had read it.
Also, a small bug that doesn't really affect the game that I found is that when you are investigating something, if you press E again, it reinvestigates it while you are already investigating. I was confused because it said press E to investigate while I was already in the investigate text. Either way, didn't matter and didn't break the game so that's a huge win.
I would say, it would be great if you were able to use WASD too. Also, if it could be so that you could hold W+A / Up arrow and Left arrow at the same time to move diagonally, that would be perfect. I would maybe suggest making the fighting sprite bigger too? Seemed a little small. And maybe a volume slider for the music since the first time I got into a fight, I got jumpscared quite hard lol. (unless there already is a slider and I missed it, then thats just me being stoopid)
Took me a sec to understand Z and B and how I get them but after I did, it was actually fun. The graphics look really cool and unique to anything else I have seen here. It is definitely difficult and took me a while to get pasts the bomb people. I also struggled to get the spells since I couldnt rack up enough blood and people to keep myself safe
Hey, I rated your game. Its actually pretty fun. Just a nice little game to play when you are bored.
Makes me feel bad about posting my game since yours actually works unlike mine. https://itch.io/jam/jamsepticeye/rate/3937275
