yeah the current difficulty scales up quite quickly, which makes it difficult the first time you play it, but quite nice once you want to restart the run and already know what everything does.

It could use some mechanic which allows the player to increase the base difficulty after a while, but make the initial difficulty easier like other roguelites!

You're right I forgot to fix that for the web version, it happens if you restart before the leader-board shows up. It should be fixed for the download version, but a slight warning... it's like 10x harder :) It was meant as a faster tournament version.

It can get confused if you draw a square with round corners, make sure they are sharp :) Also make sure you're on the post-jam version it has slightly better detection.

Thanks! The theme connection was combining pets & combining foods to craft new ones in terms of "alchemy," and the sacrificial hole where you banish pets into the shadow realm in terms of the "shadow" :)
