Hi Manedza! ☺️ Thank you so much!! Thanks for checking out One Last Goodbye! I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the story and actually checked out both routes! 🌸 Haha, yes, William is very sweet! 🥰
Spoilers
I just have to speak in Haorang / the young master’s defence as the author! 🤣 Their story is actually quite touching too. The YM loved Pei-er a lot despite differences in social status, and he never saw her as someone beneath him. He believed in her potential and wanted to help her rise above the identity / beliefs / self-image that society imposed on her. Their story only became a tragedy because they were not confident in each other’s affections and feelings. Despite misunderstanding Pei-er, the YM forgave her and accepted the possibility of her being with another man, but still carried strong feelings for her even in another lifetime (though of course, him as Haorang also suffered feelings of jealousy). What I wanted to illustrate through their story is the freedom that they gave each other to choose and love. If their world had not been so turbulent, they could have enjoyed a life together, though of course, as hinted in the story, it would not have been easy or perfect either due to the prevalent social norms of the time.I have plans to add in an extended ending for both routes, but I am not sure how much I can do! Hopefully this can show that their stories will never end! 😊
The suffix “-er” is just pronounced “err”, but with a shorter “r” sound so it is more like “er”.
Thanks for letting me know how you felt about the historical parts! The story is set in Hong Kong, during the British colonial rule, near the end of the Qing dynasty in China. I didn’t include any information on the historical background because I didn’t want to make these details more important than the personal feelings, experiences, and journeys of the characters, and the bonds that they developed with each other in the story.
And thank you for letting me know that parts of the game spooked you! I did add a content advisory at the start of the game, but I will elaborate on the details in future updates, such as loud noises, and potentially sensitive situations such as being held at gunpoint. I hope you weren’t too spooked or affected! 😣
On some of the themes in the story
As for the religious aspect of the story, the game is not advocating any religion, so I didn’t think that any advisory regarding this would be needed. William’s route does involve a priest, but it is more to illustrate a cultural aspect associated with him as a Western coloniser, the same way as how in Haorang’s route moving on is associated less with established religious beliefs, than with a personal journey towards self-enlightenment. If religious/spiritual symbols are present, they are only there to serve as cultural juxtapositions to each other, and to show how our experiences and perspectives can be so subjective and dependent on the beliefs and systems we grew up with. And the pervasive presence of the Church in the modern day world in the story simply is an example of how remnants of colonial rule continue to shape society at the very basic level and how they have integrated into society, creating a unique fusion of cultures. More importantly though, it is simply a “photograph”, a descriptive background, with no extra commentary on what the “true religion” should be. (Though if there is anything about this that you still feel could be potentially sensitive, please let me know!)And about what the truth of the situation truly was, there is no one truth because all the characters experienced their lives differently. William is as subjective as Pei-er, and as subjective as any other character in the story. There is truth in Pei-er’s experience, as much as there is truth in the experiences of other characters such as the housekeeper, the nanny, Pei-er’s employer etc.. I wanted to show how bonds can be developed even between characters from such disparate backgrounds and the two of them are supposed to meet each other halfway. William’s truth is not more reliable (though he certainly is able to affect/influence Pei-er to a certain extent, for better or for worse), and this has been the case in many instances in the story. But yes, through their interaction with each other they were able to change their attitudes and understanding, and of course, like you have said, there is also change caused by the passage of time. And Pei-er’s view and the way she saw herself was not only changed by her interaction with William, but also by her interaction with the YM (through Haorang). As much as she loved the YM, she also put him on a pedestal when she was alive and didn’t believe in her own worthiness, no matter how much he tried to show her that she was important and can be his equal.
Lastly, thank you so much for reading through the story so thoroughly and listing out everything so clearly!!! 🙏🏻😣 This is so helpful! 💖 I swear I read through the script so many times… I can’t believe I actually missed all of these!! 😵💫 They will be corrected in the next update! Thank you again Manedza! I really appreciate your help, and for sharing your thoughts and comments!! 😊🌷
Hi Manedza!! Thank you for keeping an eye out for updates! ☺️ I hope you will enjoy it when you replay it! And thank you once again for checking it out the other time, and leaving your comments and suggestions. They really helped me when I was working on this new version! Thank you for checking out my other games, I hope you will enjoy them as well! 😁🌷💖
Hi Manedza! Thank you for your kind review! 😊🌸 I enjoyed reading about your experience of the game, and I am so happy you liked Viktor! ❤️ He had my maidenly young heart beating too when I wrote him! 😄 I am also happy to hear that you enjoyed the story. If you ever want to give Michael’s route a try again, you might want to check out the route guide. I am updating the game at the moment (some new artwork), I will also take into account what you have mentioned about the font size and see if I can make some adjustments there! And thanks for pointing out the typo, I am going to look into it as well and edit that bit!
And now... spoilers:
-
About Theo’s motivation for hurting Emilia:
He actually didn’t want to hurt her in the beginning because she was Michael’s friend and he considered her a part of his circle. But he was annoyed at her for interrupting him when he tried to prey on her classmate, and when he noticed her following him into the town square he decided to “get rid of her”. He had already become affected by his vampiric instincts and was more driven by bloodlust, and he was also filled with a sense of superiority from having gained seemingly superhuman powers. He didn’t think Emilia was going to survive the attack, and he thought that he could just hide his crime afterwards, like he did with the others that he had hurt. -
About Theo’s ending:
Viktor did hint at executing him, and in the end he did have his guards do that. He only vaguely mentioned it because he knew it would upset Emilia since despite everything she didn’t want Theo to be hurt.
Thank you so much Mat! 😄 Yes, the game is more or less the same in this update except for one added functionality and some extra art and sneak peeks. I hope to create a remastered version of the game, and that version might include extra side stories and content! I am so happy to hear that the story has a special place in your heart! 🌷
Thank you so much for checking out the game Mat, it is always so nice to hear from you. And thank you for your kind and encouraging comment as always! ☺️🌷💖 I am so happy that you gave it a try and that you are happy with it. I did do a little more studying on Ren'Py and experimented with a few new functions, and I am very glad they turned out fine. 😄 The customized loading screen is something new, but I might change since I did hastily create it a while ago when I updated Memories of Marin. Haha, I am happy to hear that it gave the impression of an anime, because this was the style I was going for! Thank you once again, and I do hope to create a sequel for it, but like I have said in another comment, it might be a little more mature because I will be exploring the dynamics of the MC's relationship with Mina and how she adjusts to her new identity!
I am no fighting game fan so I don’t know how difficult it is supposed to be. But for players who just want to find out what happened, and maybe immerse in the story (which the combat component definitely helped to do), I think this is just the right level! 😆
Good luck with developing the rest of the game if you do decide to! :)
I love Chiba best, and I can't believe that despite appearing so tough Kuki ended up being bossed around! 😆 This is a very interesting take on the magical girl genre, especially with the different applicants and their own quirks and stories. I especially like the part of the game where Kuki gets to read emails from his colleagues. Overall the graphics are very cute, and the music fits the story perfectly!
I like the story leading up to the game, and Akari’s transformation is very cute! The jumping game was fun, but I wasn’t able to get past Round 2 (the part that came after her transformation?). There was a higher platform and I couldn’t figure out how to get up there. 😓
Screenshot
I also enjoyed the background music very much and I think it goes very well with the jumping game.
This was a really fun game! Wow, I can't believe you actually made a combat component! 😮 It also blends very well with the story, which was very engaging and interesting, and I wish we got to find out more about what happened. The combat was manageable for a beginner like me and I think this is important at least because it does not prevent me from advancing to the next part of the story. If the game gets fully developed I would be interested in playing again!
I will try again if I do fall off the cliff (hopefully not!)! In the end, I ended up deleting my game and starting over again. I actually fell into the river once, and managed to get out by using the spacebar. By this point my dragons could fly and I checked the help menu again and saw that the spacebar can be used for both ascending and jumping, so I gave it a try and it worked! So this might also be another solution!
Thanks for letting me know that you actually like the MC!! I was worried he was a bit too cold and his inner voice too critical. This is definitely something I've been trying to work on in my writing (most of it has been for dating sims), to develop relationships organically. I do love to hear your suggestions on what I could add to the story when I work on it again, and I think it is very helpful to know what you like and would like to see more off! I do find when I read other people's stories that action really adds excitement to the plot, so I will definitely add this element to any future story for this universe. Thank you once again for your feedback! 🫶🏻☺️🌷
Edit: Typos
Thanks for completing the game! 😊 I am happy you like the new look of the main menu!! I actually was thinking about extending this story just a few days ago, but in another game, since I want to explore more of the MC’s relationship with Mina. This game for the jam addresses the question of “What makes a magical girl?” instead, and also the POV of an unwitting mahou shoujo support boyfriend. I tried to put in elements of what the typical shoujo manga boyfriend has to go through in the story, though I think the MC is probably not as accommodating or friendly as usual shoujo manga boyfriends. In the other story I will expand more on Mina dealing with her newfound identity, and the MC’s relationship with Mina. It might contain more mature elements and I might use a different style for that VN just to see how it will turn out.
Thanks for checking out my game! 💖 The animated loading screen is actually a .webp file, and I used Krita to export it in this format. You have to put it into your game folder and name it web-presplash (for Ren’Py engines).
Thank you for your kind words, and I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the game. I am glad you managed to load the complete version in the end! 😄 Did clearing your browser cache work? Or was there something else you had to do? Just asking, in case other people run into the same problem!
About the music and sound volume, this is a good suggestion! I will definitely implement this in my future games and maybe even make changes to this one when I update it again to correct some writing errors I found.

This is a really cute game, and I really liked the aesthetics and music! The main character is so adorable!! It is a really relaxing game, and I really like that I get to pet the baby dragon! One thing I encountered though is that my character fell off the cliff and got stuck there with no way of getting back up. I am not sure if this just means that it is game over, or maybe there is another way of getting out. And when I reload the game, my character is still stuck! 🥲 Overall, I love the colour palette used in the game, and the idea of raising dragons! 💖 I felt bad about killing the mushrooms though because they look so cute too!
Edits: Typos!
This is a really cute game with a meaningful message! I really like the idea of the magical girl battling dark energy, which is reminiscent of old school magical girl shows! The aesthetics and vibe of the game reminds me of Mahou Shoujo Madoka, though of course, the message is different. The title song is also very nice and sets the mood of the game!

A feature I liked about the game is the three different doors that you have to go through, and the room of mirrors really is a neat touch!I really like the outfits of the magical girls, and the art style, dialogue, dynamics and friendship between them remind me a little of the Powerpuff Girls (grownup version). The beginning scene was a very nice touch in setting the stage, especially with the voice-acting of the three novice magical girls and the villain! It is amazing that a whole lore was created for the game, and I especially enjoyed the battle scenes in the VN. It is amazing that you created a theme song too! It really fits the game, and sets the mood of the story.

The game really made me feel for Saffia, and I felt they definitely shine more as a magical girl as much as they seem to have some trauma about it and maybe an associated past surrounding their relationship with Rose?? I didn't manage to get the good ending, but I wonder if Saffia will find her magic again in the true ending? This is a very well-made game! There’re so many things that I enjoyed about the game.
Spoilers
I've just finished it and it has left me feeling sober, especially with how the message of the game subverts the classic magical girl/superhero genre (at least if what I got was the true ending >> managed to defeat all the monsters but ended up destroying the world). I knew something was up with Teddy with those little devil horns poking out from the back of his head and the sad-looking cactus!! But I thought at first that those monsters are embodiments of nature and Teddy was prompting the character to destroy the environment. Didn't think it was another kind of sinister! This is a really well-made and impressive game! I especially liked the opening animation and the song that went with it. It really set the mood for the game and reminds me of old-school video games. It is really cool that motion capture is made for the character’s movements, and the display of her moves in the opening really helped draw me into the game. Disclaimer: I actually don’t know this genre of video games very well so my experience definitely does not apply to most players, and I am not sure if my review can do it justice. This is maybe one of my first few tries at games like this, so I had a hard time knowing what I was supposed to do (ended up walking into the monster a few times and then slowly walking away from it). But after my first few attempts I managed to control the character better and got to the part where I have to shoot the monsters. I think this is definitely not an easy game for novices, but more experienced players will really appreciate it. The difficulty is actually just right I think, because it is engaging without being too difficult, if I am more used to coordinating the jumping and shooting. The sound effects and music pair very nicely with gameplay and the monsters are actually quite scary but I think it is effective in adding excitement to the game. I really like the touch of mahou shoujo themes in the weapon and the attacks, and the character is really cute!
Edits: Typos!
I really enjoyed the game and the way it was presented, especially with the short story before the actual gameplay. The characters and art are really cute, and the monsters as well. I like that the challenges increase progressively, because it helps players practise and get used to the dynamics of shooting the monsters and how to kill them.
Spoilers
Personally I got really nervous when the monsters respawned just when I thought I cleared the round! I couldn’t get past the porcupine and the snake level. I managed to take down the porcupine, but did not have enough hearts to handle the two extra respawned snakes! It was a really fun experience though! 😄
I really enjoyed the game, the art and the experience! This is my first time playing a shooting game and I think I did quite badly because I don't know how to control the character. But I did manage to take down a few monsters after my third attempt! I really liked the effects used with the attacks, and using Pocky as a weapon is just so cute! I especially liked the effects used for the character's jumping motion and somehow I managed to get her to jump really high (though I don't know what I did). This is a really fun game overall and I love the colour palette! 💖
Edit: Just to clarify... there were instructions in the game on how to control the characters, I just mean my lack of experience with games like this in general (poor coordination etc.) 😅
Thanks for your suggestion! I haven't had time to look at all the examples you have provided, but I will certainly do that. I can only say that I have made my stylistic choices based on what is realistically achievable within the time frame of the jam, taking into consideration all the other aspects that warrant attention in a VN, and that many preferences are rather subjective. The details that stand out to me as important in a VN are quite different from yours, and what keeps me playing a VN are quite different too, and I did make deliberate choices and prioritised certain aspects over others given the contraints I was faced with and what I find more appealing. Bouncing words and changing fonts are certainly not my cup of tea, and hence they are not in my VNs. In any case, I do appreciate reading your comment and seeing your perspective. But since this is my project, I do have to write in defense of it as much time, thought and effort had been put into its creation and design.
Mmmm… the character has several different outfits and accessories, and her expression does change depending on the content of the dialogue, and even in the middle of it, and the music changes as well. In some scenes, there are even changes to the background. Perhaps it would be helpful if I could get a reference on what you would find engaging in terms of presentation. But thank you for clarifying your point! If I had more time I would definitely like to create character sprites for other characters. As for cutscenes that would definitely take a bit more time. I do have a CG scene for one of the endings, but I haven’t had time to put that part of the game into the uploaded version yet! I made this project as a one-person team so I was definitely pressed for time and had to also make sure the game is not buggy. But I do hope to get everything assembled and uploaded, perhaps this weekend or the next!
I’ve only ever played VNs, so I guess my reference point is a little different from yours. But this is just a game that I created to have fun with the mahou shoujo genre and this is just my take on it! 😆 Thanks for checking out my game anyhow, and letting me know what you think!
Thank you for checking out the game! I am sorry to hear that the writing and the story was not for you. But I am happy to know how you felt about it and what the experience was like for you. I have reviewed the game and here are some of my thoughts in response to your comments: Some options in the game indeed have an element of chance, like many dating sims do, where you really have to just be lucky enough to pick the "right" choice for the main plot to proceed. And of course, each choice also showcases/reveals aspects of the characters' personalities and their preferences, and will create different kinds of interactions between them. But every choice you make opens up new aspects of the story and interaction, and this is something that I've always strived to make a part of the stories I publish -- so there really isn't a "right" choice, but an experience of the myriads of possibilities between the characters in the story. Some choices do allow for an element of "control" in directing the story -- and as this is a dating game, the tone that the protagonist chooses to use, reflecting their feelings towards the love interest does make a difference. And of course, the love interest is not for everybody, so even if the "happy ending" is not achieved, this does not equal to "losing" the game. It just means a lack of chemistry with the love interest. Ultimately the game was created and designed based on what I find interesting, entertaining and meaningful, so perhaps its style and tone really isn't for everybody. But again, thank you for checking out the game and leaving a comment, because it helps to know what your experience was!
Thank you Mat!! It really helps to know that I was able to convey my ideas through the story, and that the little details did make a difference! 😊 It is still very nice to hear what you think, and thank you so much for always being so encouraging and supportive! It really does help to receive feedback, and I always like hearing what your thoughts are, and any suggestions you may have! 🌸 Thank you for always putting so much heart into your feedback! 🥹
Hi! The game has been updated. To change the display of textbox colours, please go to “Customise” in the main menu, and under “Text Display Style”, choose the option that you prefer. You can also change the textbox colours in-game, by going to “Settings”. A screenshot of the “Settings” page has also been uploaded to the game page in case this is unclear. I hope the new display colours make the text easier to read! 😊
Thanks for checking out the game! 😊 I am sorry to hear that the text is hard to read. I will try to see how I can fix the issue. The text box seems pretty dark to me, but I can make it darker. Though I am wondering if it would be more helpful to you if I add in an option for dark text against a light background? Please let me know! Thanks!
You’re most welcome, and thank you for your reply Mat! <3 Lol! Silly in distress! Yes, that’s such an apt way to describe your characters, and that’s what I find fun and lovable about them! They get distracted all the time, but somehow manage to find a way out of any bad situation in a goofy way! (Oh, and the way the guys decided was the best way into the building… to put everything vaguely so that I don’t spoil…)
Wishing you and the team all the best with finishing the game!! I can’t wait to see the full version of it and find out what happens!!
This was such a fun and exciting game, and very well made! Even though I have never been a fan of pixel art, the kind of details and love that go into creating the game assets and animation really help me see pixel art in a new light! You can really tell that the team has put a lot of effort and love into the game, because every single element is very well made, from the wind that goes through the characters’ hair and clothes to the little items that make up the puzzles in the game. I tend not to enjoy games and puzzles in visual novels, but the games were really, really fun, and designed in a way that is “gentle” on the players – they are challenging enough to make me feel entertained, but not so much that I feel like giving up on the story! The characters are all very lovable and reminiscent of the Freakaversity gang (but a much more toned-down and non-monster version)! Even though this is only a demo, the game has already got me hooked, and I cannot wait to see the rest of the story and how it develops.
The art, music, and sound effects all come together very nicely to create that 1990s teenage mystery genre vibe… and the kind of wholesomeness that is characteristic of stories from that era. The friendship and interaction between the characters definitely put a smile on my face! Even though they were facing a serious and possibly apocalyptic situation, the characters all manage to still maintain that joie de vivre and lightheartedness characteristic of the beloved characters from Freakaversity. Please try this game if you’re looking for a feel-good, light mystery story with fun interactive games and characters that will put a smile on your face!
Glad you found the other endings pleasant and enjoyed the less direct paths too! 😊 Thank you once more for your kind words and encouragement! I am truly happy to hear that you are witnessing the changes and improvements in my games! I don’t know how my future games will be, but making games and writing (and drawing) is a fun outlet for me, as I think making music is for you (and making games too I am sure)! 😁 Do share your online music portfolio too if you have one! I would love to listen to your music too. Haha, don’t worry about trying the other endings in OLG! As sad a story as it was, it was meant to be healing and a sort of closure… though maybe I need to work on making “feel good games” because my stories always end up seeming sadder/less pleasant than I had intended for them to be. :p I can’t wait to try your game “Second Impact” in a few days! I will need to use my other computer that runs on Windows because Unity games seem to work better downloaded for me!
Thank you so much for checking out Memories of Marin too, Mat!! 😁 I am so happy to hear that you liked it and enjoyed the experience of it! Yes, the project is on hold at the moment because two years after writing the story, I realise that I have changed, and I am not really in the space I was in back then, and like you’ve said, some of the themes that I wanted to explore were already explored in OLG. I am still thinking about how I want to approach the story because the original version of the game which actually was already halfway completed is a little heavy. I might revisit the project once more when I know how I want to proceed! Thank you once more for being so kind about my project! 😊 My next challenge is to try to make my own assets, since most of the assets I used in this game are from other people!
