I was running it through safari on a Mac. A lot of games from the Jam crashed this way. I know Mac and Safari aren’t exactly a gamer setup. Haha

The positive: This game had me on the edge of my seat, overcome by nervous laughter as I tried not to fall in holes while running away from bugs and trying to get back to my power cell to recharge it without dying and having the game loop back to the beginning. The intensity that this game builds is unmatched by any of the competition. The art in this one was by far my favorite in the whole game jam. It was complex but also retro. It was just colorful enough. It didn't become monotonous over time. I felt like the more I played, the more I wanted to keep playing because I became increasingly able to strategize as I picked up on the game mechanics. The enjoyment just compounds. This was the only game I played in the whole Game Jam that attempted and succeeded at having a 3D map (all other games only allowed for left and right movement or left, right, up, and down movement). This one definitely fits the required theme and it did so in a more complex and interesting way than any other game. The game was really hard but I think this appeals to a certain crowd. I really liked it because the more I failed, the more I improved and the further I was able to progress. I feel like this could keep the right kind of gamer entertained for a very long time.
The negative: A couple times I died due to falling in a hole but felt like I didn't deserve to. It seemed like maybe the holes were programmed to be ever so slightly bigger than they appeared in-game. I could be mistaken. I was able to avoid this by moving much slower and more cautiously around the holes. The game did crash when I was finally making really good progress unfortunately but, to be fair, I was playing in-browser on a Mac. Most of the games I played this way in the Game Jam eventually crashed on me. Lastly, I think it needs more sound - especially music, even if it's just optional to toggle on or off. I know not everybody likes looping retro music in games but I happen to love it as long as it's complex enough.
Over all: Best game in the Game Jam. Intense. Engaging. Challenging. Visually appealing. Conceptually unique.
The positive: I love this concept. The art is super cool. The music is chill. The sound effects are on point. I liked that there was a well organized and functional menu that allowed me to change characters. The puzzles in the levels were super cool. Levels 1 and 2 did a pretty decent job of teaching the concept without being too much to take in for a new player.
The negative: I couldn't tell if the game was glitching or if I was just struggling with understanding the game mechanics but I couldn't get past level 3. It kept saving ghosts of me that didn't move at all (which is not something I was doing). I would try to save the ghost that I needed to advance but my actions just weren't consistently saving. This either needs to be better explained or a bug fix is needed.
Over all: With just a little bit more polish, I could see this being a game that puzzle gamers absolutely adore. Right now, I'm not so sure that it's playable past level 3 but I loved everything about it so much that I'm not even that mad about it. Hope this gets further developed.
The positive: Color! It seems like most of the games I've played in this competition are lacking in color. This one did no such thing. I loved that. The wheel character is also pretty cute. The game didn't glitch or crash at all. It ran exactly as intended as far as I could tell.
The negative: I felt like the gravity was too strong. My wheel couldn't make it up a lot of the ramps, even as it built up speed. It would fall straight down far too hard and fast if it came up against any opposition while in the air. The fast pacing of the game coupled with the complete inconsistency in the shapes and sizes of the hand drawn ramps and loops made it basically impossible to find a rhythm or strategize in any way. I ended up resorting to just holding down the forward (D) button and watching the game happen instead of really engaging with it. I also didn't like the supercharge mechanic. I followed the instructions and I heard the supercharge sound effect but it never actually seemed to work to make me any faster. The sound effects for the power ups were obnoxious and loud.
Overall: It's a potentially good concept. A lot more energy needs to go into the game mechanics/physics. The supercharge feature needs to be overhauled. The ramps/loops need to be more consistent so that players don't just give up on actually playing the game and opt to just watch their wheel move endlessly forward (and never escape gravity like the game description implies is possible).
The positive: This was such a fun concept. I loved being able to create the track and strategizing to make it advantageous for my player. I loved that the map and player could be regenerated at will. The artwork was colorful and cute. The music and sound effects were also pretty cute. I enjoyed the easy style of gameplay. It sort of slowed down my day in a way that I found relaxing.
The negative: The game did crash on me when I played it in browser which was a bit disappointing because I was almost done with my second race and probably would've gone for one more after that. The music started to feel repetitive early on. Other than that, I don't really have anything negative to say. Good job!
Over all: I loved this game! I could see the concept being developed into something much more complex with the same slow and easy play style for PC/Mac. It did feel like it was more for kids than adults which is fine (and hey, I enjoy connecting to my inner child sometimes). However, the retro art style might not appeal to a lot of today's youth. Adults do tend to only play juvenile games like this on mobile but I don't see this game shrinking down to mobile-size very well so the target audience may be difficult to pin down but I do think the right people are out there.
The positive: This was a unique concept. I was able to make multiple attempts at the same level without getting bored too fast because there was a different malus for almost every attempt. The sound effects were cute.
The negative: I had a little trouble figuring out what to do or how to play at first as there were not really any instructions and I was expecting WASD controls, not keyboard controls. I was still able to figure it out. The world was a little too colorless for my taste. I would love to see more maluses than what was in the game. Some simple arcade music would've been cool. The game didn't hold my interest for very long because there wasn't much going on once I had seen all the different maluses.
Over all: Pretty creative but I think more ideas need to be thought of and added to make it long-term playable. I could see this being a good mobile game with a bit more development.
The positive: Unique art style. Strange, engaging concept. It's pretty cool that the developer did everything themselves. I enjoyed the music.
The negative: I had trouble reading some of the handwriting. I had to give up on comprehending a couple of the words. I can imagine it's even harder for younger players who never learned cursive in school to understand what's going on. The artwork is so simplistic that the context from the notes is very necessary so this made the game a bit frustrating. Playing this through to end left me with the distinct thought "What was that? What did I just spend my time on? I'm so confused". I personally don't like being left with that feeling but I do think there are gamers who seek this exact experience (and some of the other comments confirm this). I do wish there had been more to the game after escaping the room. It felt like the entire game was just a railroaded story that I was clicking through and it ended right when it could have branched out into something more player-led and fun.
Over all: Definitely unique and artsy. More of an interactive story than a game. Could have been a bit more comprehensible. Just not really my thing.
The positive: What a weird and wonderful concept! The hamster is adorable. The music is fun and I like how it builds in intensity as the game speeds up. The controls are simple and easy to grasp. I also like that you can use whatever controls you're most comfortable with as a gamer (option to use the mouse or the keyboard and option to use w or space for jumping). The animation of the hamster jumping and gliding was pretty satisfying. The infrastructure to add high scores and play against other people online is perfect to give the game a sense of purpose since at heart it's just an arcade game.
The negative: This game is rage fuel. Even the first obstacle is hard to get over as a new player. There could be a bit more variation in the obstacles (they were all the same size and shape and color, just stacked and lined up in different ways). There could be more colors and things going on over all - perhaps some power ups, different skins to choose from for your hamster, and maybe some variation in the background as you travel through space. It also would've been nice if the leaderboard was actually live and if your scores showed on that leaderboard. Sadly those features weren't working at least for me.
Over all: I liked this one. It was cute, retro, and engaging. It doesn't feel polished yet but it's a good concept to finish developing.
The positive: This was a completely new concept while still being a super cool retro style space game. It was also a really cool concept. I could see getting really good at the game and going super fast and having a really great time. The artwork was near perfect. The music actually was perfect. I was kinda dancing while playing this one. New players don't die too quickly which gives them a bit of time to figure out how to play.
The negative: I did have a little trouble figuring out the controls. It seemed like they were just a bit over-complicated. I think it might be better to use the left click instead of A and D to hook onto asteroids. I felt like it didn't make sense to have a left hook and a right hook when the spaceship is kinda always facing in one direction. That tended to confuse me. I was never sure which one to click and found myself just mashing the two buttons. I also wasn't able to figure out how to manage my health. It just kept going down. There was a missing objective to the game as well. The endlessness is cool but that becomes monotonous without a high score system and without any objects to collect (correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't come across any kinds of power-ups or anything positive to pick up in the world). I also felt like it was a missed opportunity that I could only move forward or backward but not up or down. I know that would be harder to code but I think it'd be worth it to bring this up to the level of a long-term playable game.
Over all: This is a great concept with great music. The developer definitely has something here. It needs some refining and depth but it held my interest and was enjoyable for a solid 10 minutes. Compared to the few other games in the competition that I've play-tested so far, this one stands out as one of the best.
The positive: I like the concept. I could see it being a mobile game with a ton of ads that could keep someone entertained while they're stuck somewhere that they don't want to be. The art is fine, nothing to write home about, but passing. The movement of the axe is believable and I like how it bounces off of the walls.
The negative: The sound was glitchy when I played in-browser. Sound effects from previous levels were getting stuck on a loop which was very annoying and ultimately made me click out of the game. The music was too intense and repetitive. I don't even think it stopped or changed when I was in the menu between levels. I was annoyed with it by level 3. The dotted line aim system didn't seem very accurate. I would've been happy to play the game without it versus trying to rely on it and having it not quite work. There was no real story to the game (which is fine for a mobile game but wasn't really up to par with some of the other games in the competition that were more engaging due to the storyline/backstory).
Over all: For what it is, the game is just fine. I wasn't excited to play more after level 2. I played through level 3 just to get a good feel for it but I wasn't excited about it. Maybe to the right audience with some small improvements, it'd be a good mobile game for ad farming.
The positive: I love slice of life games where you make choices to tell a story and this was exactly that. I liked the way the character's face changed based on his morale level. The game was easy to figure out and play which is a must for this competition where gamers have to rate at least 10 games. There was enough variety in the game that, funny enough, it didn't get monotonous to play right away.
The negative: There was a bit of a lack of engaging sound and graphics in the game. The only things that really changed on screen were the character's face and the cards in the deck. A couple things didn't make complete sense due to the way they were worded (although I was able to figure everything out with context clues within 10 minutes or so of gameplay). I never did understand why working out gave you +3 and also -3 health. I don't get why that information was supplied to me as the player. I also felt like this game lacked some customizability. I would've liked to be able to change my character (at the very least decide if I'm playing a guy or a girl), choose my career, etc. I know it's just a simple competition game but compared to some of the others I've played, it seemed ever so slightly too simple.
Over all: Decent game. I was entertained. Could have had more depth.
The positive - The concept seemed cool and the artwork was decent.
The negative - I just couldn't figure out what was going on. There weren't sufficient instructions for how to play. The sound effects were too abrupt and I couldn't tell if they were good or bad sounds. I didn't like how the cards were upside down when I started the game and I couldn't read them. Everything just felt all over the place and confusing.
Over all - I tried to like it but I couldn't. I'm sorry!
