For this game I used 8bitworkshop. All the code is basically from scratch in assembly though. Here's the source code.

We barely finished it so there are bugs. We're still not totally sure where the lag is coming from, just too many enemies or something. The different tiles are simply because they were in the set of open source graphics we were using and I figured they'd be more interesting randomized.

Yes! Eventually!!

Thanks for playing. That's a pretty good time! :D

congrats!

we found some stuff to optimize and reuploaded

it was a lot smoother for me on my potato cornputer

No, we're pretty sure  it's the AI for the baddies. I'm guessing that by zooming in that the amount of baddies being processed gets reduced, but it also doesn't make sense that it doesn't do it on all levels. Might be some bad garbage collection.

Heelll yeah!! Did you notice any slowdown/lag on levels 7 and 8?

thank you!

the lick!

sorry, seams my frustration was showing xD

I got the street scene to scroll and then didn't come back to it for 2.5 months. Should have somehow left myself two weeks instead of one to work on it. It's fine. Once I finish the Orange Island conversion I'll be back to this one!

speedrun that title screen!

I wish everyone could play it too. Maybe I shouldn't have submitted it.

saw this article and thought of you!

haha oh right i still hadn't upgraded to 2

that was fun!

its crashing bizhawk -- which emulator do you suggest?

fun stuff -- thanks for sharing the source; it was a fun read!

Thank you for your help and I will know better next year!! :D

OH now I find out

I started my game last Monday afternoon and saw the "extension" on the timer and refreshed the page multiple times to make sure it wasn't itch being weird or buggy. I am technically within the 7 days and was going to submit and make my page when I woke up. So I'm guessing I goofed because I was going by the timer?  That sucks because I put in almost 30 hours over the weekend alone. I didn't know I had to come to the forums to find out the truth about the timer.

I adored the grammar and vocabulary!

I also had fun playing it too. :D

flag core!

Probably my favorite from the compo. Well animated beautiful graphics. I easily found my groove and enjoyed playing through the whole thing. Would love to see more of it.

esolang core!

The text made me giggle multiple times. Terrific atmosphere. I found combat frustrating, but was really happy when I could start jumping backwards. <3

A really great start you have here!  It took me a while to realize holding the fire button was making me move slow. Otherwise, I had a great time and played through it twice in a row. :D
