Wow I'm impressed! After 20 minutes after playing this gaming experience I got to 203, and wowie zowie! I was not in the expecting of that end!

Thank you! Pokemon HeartGold was actually the last game I played in the Pokemon series, so maybe I'm channeling that energy lol

Something is also crazy good! That also reminded me of another I love, "Because". I made a cover of that one in high school. Can't go wrong with Abbey Road and Yellow Submarine! I'm partial to Sargent Peppers : )

That's awesome! Very well made for 3 months of learning. Well done : )

Any favorite songs by The Beatles so far? Some of my favs are Michelle, A Day in the Life (which in inspired my entry for this jam!), and She's So Heavy. Across the Universe is a banger too!

Valhalla! I used to use that all the time! It's been so long though I should use it again. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for going through the time to explain this for me! I'm definitely going to have to experiment in Blender when I get the time. I keep wanting to do something dynamic like this for my landing page on my website. i bet I could do something in Blender like this!

Love the production on this one! Has such a full frequency range. Feels like a bit like Final Voyage in Outer Wilds. I like the sound design on some of those higher frequency sounds as well : D

This tune is also fire btw! I can't put in the time that I put in to analyze this one that I did for the other one, but it's pretty awesome that you were able to make TWO  such fleshed out compositions in a week. Sounds a bit like Aaron Copland actually!

This has a nice bass groove to it! Nice work : )

The piano texture is fairly interesting! I like that strange cat snarl sound that gets reveal when the piano drops out at 0:25 as well : )

Feels like I'm on an icy planet in a far off galaxy! I like the arps in the mid range intertwining throughout the parts :  )

This immediately reminded me of the music for Digimon World 4! I played that game so much when I was a kid. Fairly good production as well!

You know what's funny? When there was no song posted on your page yet, I had originally given you 3 stars all across because I was like, "silence is the ultimate background music for all" lol.

I really like your chord progressions here! You did one of my favorite key modulations, going to the m3rd key above, from C major to Eb major (it's used so much in Kirby music!. I liked the simple way to get back to C major as well with going from Eb - > Ab -> F -> G -> C. That was a nice little pathway back to the home key!

The lo-fi production was really nice too! Great job!

Você é brasilero, né? Gosto muito seu tracker q você fazeria! Eu te dei mais puntos pra isso. Os sons adentro são demais também! Muito bom cara!

Sounds very Stardew Valley to me! I especially like when the marimba kicks in at 0:32 : )

Apparently, you can automate certain processes in Reaper with their custom programming language called Luna. I keep hearing about it through the grapevine in my professional circles that I'm starting to get a bit of FOMO from it lol. I need to do more research on the subject myself.

I'll also have to check out DPM. I'm always open to finding new DAWs I can recommend folks!

Yup that's it!

Kirby Super Star is definitely a long one lol. But I have such fond memories of me and my bro playing that for endless hours when I was a wee lad. The credit theme to Milky Way Wishes is such peak Kirby music.

Whoa! Is Frozencity bitonal? I hear C major for the pizz bass strings but then E major (and a bit of C# minor which is just the relative minor of E major) in the other parts until everything goes into E major later on. This tune makes me want to listen to a tune i made in high school that I made in C major and C# major at the same time that sits in the deep depths of my hard drive lol.

418 also is great vibe! Feels like something from Fez. I swear you are going for bitonality in both these pieces, because I hear you playing a Dmaj7 of the A major riff you keep from the beginning.

Great work!

Yup! I use Reaper because of the more "bare-bones" feel to it, plus when I was a broke high school student all those years ago, I saw that you could evaluate as long as you wanted. So it would be like, "we see that you've been evaluating Reaper for 467 days, would you like to buy?" and I'd be all "sorry, I'm still thinking about it, mayb after the 468th day I'll be able to decide" lol. But jokes aside, I feel like Reaper gives me the most freedom to do wacky stuff with music, the other DAWs like Logic, Ableton, etc. feel like they hold my hand a bit too much with the stock plugins and interface. One of these days, I also want to explore writing custom Luna scripts as well, but I still haven't thought of why I would need those yet...

Thanks!

That ending part actually sneaks in a quote from Brahm's Lullaby but with the main syncopated rhythm that I used as a mottif throughout the song. You saying starry night sky makes me immediately think of the credit song at the end of Milky Way Wishes in Kirby Super Stars (even though that's unrelated lol)

Nice vibe! Feels very Snail's house-y, especially with SFX strewn about. Also, was that a flock of seagulls at 0:27? lol

Nicely done!

Whoa! The sound design and production in this one is off the charts!!

I like the crunchy sound in the beginning. The open hihat with the truncated high range fits so well in the middle of the mix as well. This could fit in perfectly in a Risk of Rain game! Towards the end I even heard something that sounded like a rare instrument called a daxophone. Bravo!

Do you design your own sounds, and if so, with what?

Nice! I used to use FL Studio a loooooooooong time ago, and I remember even then that the stock synth were fabulous

Oo! Nice tritones! Very ominous. Feel like the theme of a villain in an 80s cult classic. I especially like when the plucking bass synth comes in at 0:58!

Oo! Another Yoko Kanno fan! But she's absolutely amazing so that's also not surprising to find another fan in the wild lol.

But if you haven't already, you should check out Cadence Hira's new video on the Mitsuda Lick. Absolutely fantastic.

This feels soooo Runescape-y! Feels like walking from one town to the next : )

The intro felt so much Strawberry Field Forever! Very dream-like! I liked how the top melody changed in timbre over time. Did you slowly change the wave on the wavetable for that?

Nice chiptune pieces! Both 8beat and Funky E-Shop feel very cave-like. I can see these being in a game about an underground society!

Yah! So that sine wave-y synth sound at 0:42 definitely felt very Earthbound to me. I feel like I've heard that sound in Earthbound before, but it also could be me thinking it sounds close to enough to have been in the game lol

Thank you very much!

Even though I never played anything past Gen 3, I still love listening to the new town themes while I'm working. They are usually just a step outside of lo-fi beats on the chill factor lol. I think this washing my brain over with new Pokemon town themes has made that vibe permeate into my brain without knowing it!

Thank you!

I think subtlety is so important after the initial large brush strokes, especially when connecting sections that feel a bit jagged in their juxtaposition like I did in the middle. There's always things to be done to smooth out the seams for the listener : )

That intro felt like a quote / inspired by the Great Fairy Theme from Zelda! I liked the chill beach vibes. It reminds me of this retro anime that no one has probably heard of before called Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou.

I like the lo-fi sheen you put on this! The drum programming is nice, and you got some extended harmonies in the piano. Good job!

(1 edit)

I thought that Dreams Are Nothing But Wishes was good! Especially that little chromatic creep a little after the beginning part : )

You're post wasn't stupid at all. If the process wasn't frustrating, everyone would be doing it. I think that's the beauty of getting slowly good at something. In one sense, we just got to keep on keeping on.

My wife teaches toddlers, and they will just randomly run up to me all the time being like "MY     NAME IS TEDDY N I WANTIN TO SAY 2U THAT MY BESs FRIEND ISHHAFISHNAMEEDCHARRLEE AND MY GRANMA THAT iSAW ON 2SDAY WAS uhhhhh TORNADO." They can barely English but they are so happy to throw it in your general direction to connect with you. Kids teach me so much about how to just accept the process and let our mistakes stay behind us without looking back. They all grow up to be just fine at English too!

You made some good tunes! And you connected with folks on here! The disappointment will pass : D

Thank you so much! After listening to so much accordion in Clair Obscure, I felt I needed to do more accordion parts lol

Okay! That's very similar to how I do stuff too! I also love extended harmonies as well. Thanks! : )

I also enjoy a lot of 20th century / 21st century composers. I think my main ones would be Charles Ives, Debussey, Prokofiev (as well! Especially his Romeo and Juliet opera. Love all of it!), John Adams, John Cage etc. I also love love love a lot of Japanese composers like Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yoko Kanno (Napple Tale is so peak if you've never heard that soundtrack.), and of course Joe Hisaishi.

I'll have to check out Ruth Gipps and Charles Koechlin though! Never heard of them actually...

This definitely has that Nintendo Pets kind of vibe. A bit of Musack with that wacky touch from that "meow meow" synth : D

Oo! This one has that Nintendo Musack feel! That change at 0:31 was really hip. Good work!

I agree with pacifiquecoean. Sounds very Undertale-y. I would say like some sort of chase scene : )

Nice vibe! Feels like a cyberpunk save file screen : )
