Intro

It all started when I stumbled across _Adventure Game Studio_ (AGS). Messed around with it out of curiosity, just reminiscing about old-school point-and-click games I used to enjoy. I wasn’t planning anything serious at first—just having fun experimenting, seeing how far I could push the engine for fun.

But then I wanted to do an actual game, with an actual story and something fun to play, took me three procrastination days but the idea came up to me and I loved it, imagine Don Quixote, but detective. It just fits so well, and with this genre, it's chef kiss, I really love this idea. And I'm also a sucker for absurd and dark humour and i think this is a perfect set up for both of them.

After thinking it through, I realized I wanted more flexibility and control than AGS could offer. So, I decided to do it in Godot.

And now here we are.

The Fun (Visual Part)

First of all I need to clarify, background is a placeholder, and the game will not look like this, it will actually have a more rough style of art, more like this.

But honestly, I kinda dig it, it reminds me to those flash games.

Anyways, as you might have saw on the first image, at left bottom there's a descriptor, which means it's a Label that will display the name of the hotspots and update depending where you hover.

Then on the bottom middle there's the subtitles, I thought of going for the speech being over the character but I like the subtitles more, and it might have become an issue resizing the text for it to always be readable.

The software I took screenshot removed the cursor, but it was an icon cursor of a cross hair for moving, and there's also the look, talk, and interact.

The Boring Part

Hotspot: Using Area2D, a base resouce called HotspotBehaviour, with three empty functions, on_look, on_talk, on_interact, I made a easy workflow to make as many hotspots as I deem necessary.

Movement: Pretty simple, but needed polish, using navigation agent, setting the target position based on mouse position, and then having to add thresholds so the agent wouldn't jitter because it's not in the perfect exact position.

 Next Things to Tackle

* The allmighty inventory

* And a dialogue system

Thanks!

And this is why people don't delete the internet. Awesome work.

I wish there were a bit more of indicators on how would the game flip, because the flipping effect although cool, confuses my mind.

I don't see the zip file, feels a bit bothersome to download all the files.

I don't trust this rock

Dogs were petted, dogs were happy, me happy. Would have liked some sounds and music. But it's genuinely fun and simple, this could blow up if developed more and with a clear goal.

Honestly this is incredible, I can see how this game can be fun, although not sure if it's the game, itch.io or my machine but the slowness of it, kinda makes it hard to get into it, when response is so lacking, but that could be not a problem you could really solve if it happens it's my machine, if you could maybe wrap it on electron or make a Windows build somehow any other way, maybe it could improve it, but man, it really strikes me when people use javascript+rendering engine, respect for that.  And honestly the UI is alright to me, but if you have a better vision, go for it. Awesome game.

About the Project

I’m working on Noir Delusions (name TBD), a point-and-click adventure where the protagonist, influenced by classic noir films and detective novels, sees mundane events as elaborate crimes. As the player investigates these "cases," they uncover the truth while those around them grow increasingly concerned about their perception of reality. The game will feature multiple locations, character interactions, and puzzle-solving.

Who I'm Looking For

I need a 2D pixel artist to create character sprites, environment assets, and UI elements in a noir-inspired pixel art style that fits the game’s gritty, psychological, yet slightly absurd tone.

What’s Already Covered

I’m the programmer for the game and will handle all coding and gameplay mechanics. The game is in early development, and I’m looking for an artist to help shape the visual identity.

Compensation

This is a revenue share opportunity (percentage is negotiable). If you're interested in collaborating, we can discuss how to fairly split potential earnings.

Project Timeline

The project is still in its early stages, and I’m aiming for a full playable game. The timeline will be flexible, and I’m open to discussing realistic goals.

So based on "The Holders" creepypasta I want to make a game that let's you actually collect the 538 objects, but first I would like to make sure it's fun before going full into it, so i'm searchin for a small team, with the small goal of making a "demo" with one object being collectible, and then based on it we can start working more or change perspective to another game that someone may had in their mind.

My discord is: lwful or Lawful#8117

I realized I need more experience making games, and I would love to help people to get things done, I have some time right now to  help develop a game, but first I would like to know a little about the game since if I don't like it I won't be able to put the real effort and would end up being worse for everyone, but i'm usually easy to convince so no worry. I'm familiar with Godot and Unity, but if you have a game unity, should be 2019 or lower, since I don't enjoy the loading bars every  time in the actual version. Also I have knowledge on js and lua that can be transferred to any light weight game engine. You can contact me on discord Lawful#8117

Quick Sinopsis the idea of my game:

I'm trying to make a videogame kinda like a mmorpg - roguelike fusion, but the important things are that, first of all 100 players, each one it's gonna get assigned a random skill, second, there's no local play, there's one tower and if you go to the tower you're gonna find other players completing the tower too, third, it's gonna be really difficult fighting alone so I might add party system or something like that, and the basic lore of the game "Everyone does it for money".

But the tower it's gonna have 100 floors and I'm not sure I can have that much creativity

If you are interested reach to me in discord Lawful#8117

Hi everyone,

I'm a programmer looking to gain some experience and build my portfolio. I'm offering my services on a voluntary basis for a project that interests me and that I can learn from. I'm open to working with any project as long as it's relaxed and not overly demanding.

Althoug I prefer Godot I also can use Unity if it's of the older version without that much loading bars

I'm not looking to take on any additional responsibilities, so let's just have a good time and create something cool together. If you're interested in working with me, please don't hesitate to reach out on Discord at Lawful#8117.

Thanks!

Im sorry, were working on it, we are having some problems, but for the moment try playing the windows build

thanks, i will take in count that about the cyan floor

Love the original mechanic, and the puzzles are really well put

(1 edit)

Yeah, the problem is that you need to hold down the E key(This will activate a disguise) so you can pass the door without "Losing"

Cool story, i like the simple gameplay, and the entertaining story, the music and the ambient is also awesome

I'm glad you like it, and yeah the content was pretty short but i'm glad that you liked anyways, sorry for the zoom i got used to it and didnt changed it

Thanks, i'm sorry for the camera thing, i got used to it and at point that i thougth it wasn't too close, but i'll keep in mind

Srry, if is not to intuitive, but i hope you enjoy the game anywas

The win screen is a little bit different

(1 edit)

Can you explain your problem further? I'm trying to replicate it, but i cant get the win screen, you might also be confusing the win screen, with a lose screen, they're pretty similar, could you describe the win screen?
This is the lose screen, and it activates when you're not disguised

Press the f key

We already have a programmer, and composer, we only need an artis dm in discord Lawful#8117

It will be more easy for me if you make a discord account, mine is Lawful#8117

What's your role?

great, what's your discord?

I'm coding a rpg style game, but my art is not that good, i have some animations and sprites, but i was hoping to get someone who can improve them, the animations most will be idle

I have the main idea of the art, but im not that good at pixelart, im a coder

The story is really good, besides I love the pointless plot turns.and the art is really good

If you hold down the left arrow, shoot without any cooldown what makes winning easy is just what you keep squeezing in addition to when firing the sound is repeated and that's why it becomes annoying, the game looks entertaining
