I thought the gameplay was very good for a game jam - I wouldn't play it for hours on end, but for a short experience, it was nice. The teleportation, while not that useful in my playthrough, did come in handy a few times, and I liked that as you used your slow field, it would degenerate. The main issue I had with the games music was the music on the final 2 levels, which was a bit too in-your-face for me; otherwise, the music choice was good for a game jam. Maybe it would have been better if the music didn't restart with the level, but I'm assuming that was an implementation detail with the restarting.

I am participating in another jam (the Coding Blocks jam), which takes place over 3 days. I was planning on creating a sort of "prototype" game for this jam within the time constraints, submitting it, and then fleshing it out for the other jam. Would that be ok for this jam?

All I can think of is it working like 1-bit art, which wouldn't sound very good.

Thank you! I will look into that.

If I ever get into game dev, I will want more jams like this where you don't make a game in a time period, you simply submit a game for feedback; however, this jam won't be running all the time, so I was wondering if anyone knew of other similar jams?

Thank you for the feedback! The color palette is not the best one, and there are definitely accessibility issues. I totally agree as well that the momentum is a bit wacky. The levels are semi-random (there are 14 pre-made levels strung together randomly), because I did not want to deal with totally randomized level generation... Thank you for playing, I'm glad you liked it!

There are 17 submissions. That means there should be at least 17 people who are active in the game jam and should rate other peoples' games. However, the most ratings any game in this jam has is 5. I understand that some people simply can't play a game (for example, I have neither an Android nor a Mac), but 5? That is simply ridiculous, especially as the majority of the games run in-browser.

There is a simple fix: Play the games. Show the community you care. Rate the games. Give them feedback. The entire point of a jam is to make and play games, and to show developers where they can improve. So, do you like the idea of a jam? Then promote it.

It seems to be a bug with itch.io recently; I've seen it happen to several other people as well.

(Yet another lie: it has become 12 days, 23 Hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds!)

Yep, my bad. The level design was good, and that was too much for me; I thought I had already taken a path I hadn't. So yeah, great game!

The only problem I see with this is that it doesn't really take the theme too seriously; you must sink a fair amount of time into it before the theme appears at all.

Not bad! I like the idea, implementation, sounds and graphics; however, there is a loophole where you can simply spin and repeatedly slap the very top, and no hikers can get in. Otherwise, I like it!

Not a bad game, and the gameplay was fairly enjoyable. However, the final boss was pretty annoying to fight and felt like I was just spamming and respawning until I lucked out. I never did beat it, sadly.

You got me with that "release"

(1 edit)

I had to use a RAR to ZIP converter to play. Unfortunately, some pesky bug gave me the same problem as LoicLeGrosFrere where the play button didn't work. A real shame, as it looks like this is a pretty fun game!

Great job! I did try several spike hitboxes (it's actually smaller than the spike itself as it is), so it must be something with the controls. Thank you for taking the time to beat my "game"!

The visuals are really nice (where you had time to make them), however the lack of audio is somewhat immersion-breaking. I put 3 stars for narrative and theme because this game is clearly not made for narrative (is that supposed to be 1 star? I don't know), and the theme isn't bad.

To state the obvious: there is no respawn. You must refresh the page every time you die. However, it definitely seems like the main problem was scope; you tried to put too much into your first game, and didn't get it done in the right order. Obviously, looking at my submission, I am not innocent of this either; it really is easy to fall into that trap. Overall, I would say that with some post-jam fixing, this could be a pretty good game!

Thank you for the review! These are all problems I am aware of, and plan on fixing them post-jam.

Thank you for the feedback! Post-jam I plan on overhauling pretty much everything (from map to art, music to movement), so I will definitely make sure to make the gameplay fun and interesting while making it less about being accurate in your movement.

Then why do you care if you can't have it?

A very nicely polished game, I like it very much. However, I also think the theme might be stretched by this one a little; but that's up to Beregon to decide.

F1 shows the credits.

Very highly polished, overall an enjoyable experience; however, I could not find out how to get past a specific part. Probably my bad, but there it is.

Yeah, as my first game, it really isn't very balanced. I plan on working on it some more post-jam.

The only issue I see with it is that the wall jumping is somewhat finnicky, leading to some annoying sections; otherwise great game!

Thank you! It's not much compared to your stuff, but I'm reasonably OK with it!

Remember that since it hasn't hit the 10-day deadline yet, you can still make changes to your entry!

Good luck!

The game jam title is "10 Day Themed Game Jam #3". However, the submission period is from the 6th to the 18th - 12 days! This has ruined my life and I will forever be your worst enemy.

(satire)

Thank you for clarifying! I guessed as much, but it never hurts to be sure.

No Enemies

Nothing co-op; I was going to participate in a jam, but they selected co-op as the theme, and realized that adding online multiplayer was a little out of the scope, and local multiplayer would be mostly untestable in these COVID times.

Side note: does adding dependencies (such as Rendercam for the Defold engine) for non-integral mechanics break the Originality rule?

Obviously, websites like BeepBox.co count as you are actually making the audio, just with an easy UI; however, do audio effect generators (such as sfxr) count as making your own assets? Does that rule really just mean "don't use other peoples' stuff"? This is my first game jam (and game!), so thank you for this amazing opportunity!
