Oh get off it with talking about fallacies, we're all adults here.

And your obsession with drawn out nonsensical metaphors goes from borish into straight up tedium. If you had something worth saying you could say it a lot more eloquently. But I'm sure they make you feel very smart.

If the idea is so foreign to you, then by all means continue to pluck away at whatever complex systems you've spent your free time home brewing, let it all slide over your head, it's really quite okay. You will never need to understand why games with crusty mechanics are far more compelling and inspired then the best things your mind can conjure. It's just a hobby after all, right?

Maybe another deckbuilder, or how about a game where you have you have to jump on some platforms. It's all just toys at the end of the day, am I right my friends?

God I just love playing with toys.

Do you genuinely think VVVVV, Yume Nikkis, and Hotline Miami dont have story telling? Or are you just pretending to be stupid. Try deleting all the text from those games and replacing every graphic with a grey box and see how the "fundamental uniqueness" takes hold.

Pure Games already exist, and it's called fucking sports.

If people want to argue about the "mechanical tightness" and "good feeling" of games being essential to the artform, then go ahead and make a pure mechanics game without semiotics or any form of storytelling, so we can talk about how smart you are.

Or is that not how it works? Because to me it looks like every single video game worth talking about has been wrapped in some level of story telling. Story telling is the part of the artform that pushes on the little center in our brain that makes the work feel bigger than it is. I don't feel that at all when I kick a soccer ball around a field.

Some of the games listed here in these arguments are not even part of the discussion in modern gaming, because people quickly grow bored of testing their digital athleticism in a 2d sandbox. Maybe nobody actually cares if you can push buttons on the correct timing. Maybe that's not why we're here.
