If the idea is so foreign to you, then by all means continue to pluck away at whatever complex systems you've spent your free time home brewing, let it all slide over your head, it's really quite okay. You will never need to understand why games with crusty mechanics are far more compelling and inspired then the best things your mind can conjure. It's just a hobby after all, right?
Maybe another deckbuilder, or how about a game where you have you have to jump on some platforms. It's all just toys at the end of the day, am I right my friends?
