Ah that sucks. That happened because I forgot to link up the room transition correctly. Didn't really have time to get anyone to playtest, so it went by unnoticed, unfortunately can't fix it now. Thanks for playing nonetheless!

I really liked this one! I do have a couple of notes though:

- I think the walking speed could've been significantly faster. It just feels a little sluggish sometimes

- The ending feels rushed. I get it though, most of the time probably went into making the rest of the game as high-quality as it is

- I wasn't able to find a certain upgrade. Would've appreciated it if the map indicated connections to rooms that you haven't been to

- Combat was kind of clumsy for me. I don't see a good reason for not being able to attack upwards while standing on the ground (or underwater), and there's a bit of start and end lag (preventing you from moving or jumping) for every attack which really threw me off.

- I found it odd that checkpoints don't heal you and you have to pay for health regeneration. It's fine because you get more than enough coins though.

- Here's a tiny nitpick: You don't enter the crouch state if you hold down while in the air before landing

And that's about it. I think the visuals are the strongest part of this, I personally find the art very pretty. Music was nice too. Good job on making this!

Here's my gameplay footage:

awesome game (music is honestly phenomenal), i htink i clipped out of bounds

Oh damnit you're not supposed to be able to get past it before getting a certain upgrade. How did you manage to outrun it?

This is a joyfully simplistic game. It's amazing how much awesome designing you were able to do with just the basic mechanic of jumping (ignoring that second cat section because it's been talked about enough, and I agree with the public sentiment on its difficulty).

Obviously the art could've been more fleshed out, there could've been more animations and particles, there could be more music and there could be more game content, but the game needs none of that! In essence, it's complete, and, as I tried to avoid mentioning until now, it's so impressive that you managed to do that in just four days.

Phenomenal game!

I had a fair bit of prior experience with löve just messing around. It's honestly not that hard once you get your baseline systems figured out (how your entities are structured, how to draw things, how to do collisions).

After that, it becomes relatively easy to start adding features.

Thanks for the nice comment btw!

That was pretty nice! I really don't know what you're on about with this being a "short" metroidvania, the map is pretty large imo :P

The game is a weird mashup of sonic, megaman and metroidvania and I'm all for that!

The visuals on this are excellent, I really don't know what kind of magic you did to get some of those vfx(The sword! The charged shot! It looks crazy!!)

It's somewhat obvious that you're using stock music, but no worries, it fits.

The game has gotten quite a bit better since I playtested it last time. There's some unfinished ends but that's just how it is with the time limit sometimes :P

Really liked it overall. Good job!

ah. I may have forgotten about being able to dodge, my bad <~<

Will try the game again asap

Man, this game is so difficult. I know, I know, skill issue, but I cannot get past the first boss x-x

You get about a tenth of a second to react to the boss' dash attack, which is tricky when you have to be within like 8 pixels of the boss to deal damage. And there isn't a checkpoint before the arena! Why???

Welp. Regarding the bit of the game I played, it's all very obviously hollow knight inspired. The gloomy aesthetic, the enemy designs, the entire moveset, the bar that fills up when you hit enemies and lets you heal, the lore tablets, the boss, it's all very similar to hollow knight.

On the more positive side of things, I think this game looks really pretty. The art is simplistic but looks amazing and all of the animations are super cute and lively.

Will probably get back and try to actually finish this game in a few days, I don't wanna rate a game just based on its first 5 minutes.

(Tiny little pedantic thing: I would really like a fullscreen mode :P)

Nice game! Some of the platforming challenges were a bit frustrating, it took me quite a while to get used to the player movement :P

Still very good overall tho!

A very interesting game, for sure!

I beat the game on my second try, ran out of time on the first one :P
The oldschool computer aesthetic is super cool. (Not that I'm nostalgic for it, that era of operating systems was before my time)
All of the art is really charming. The music is a little repetetive but it's still nice.

The game is definitely a metroidvania. Progress is locked either behind literal doors (the ones that unlock with the colored buttons) or movement abilities.

The one thing I'm not really sure about is the timer. It just doesn't seem fitting for the metroidvania exploration design aspect: You have all of these little notes with cool lore, but if you read them all you're going to run out of time. And you don't really use the game mechanic of restarting from scratch in a way that, say, a roguelike would. The game stays exactly the same, there's no real replayability, you just restart from the beginning.  Welp, it's fine, 20 minutes is plenty and once you know what to do, it's relatively easy to beat the game.

Most of the enemies felt more annoying than challenging, slowing down your progress without any real nuance in defeating them.

Apologies if that seemed overly critical. I really enjoyed the game overall, I was just pointing out the few aspects that didn't really vibe with me. Good job on making this!!

Yup, that's perfectly fine. The most successful past MVM winner, Pseudoregalia, was a 3d game.

You can use these as long as they were not made in advance specifically for this jam and are general purpose(Which, from your description, they seem to be, so you're probably allowed to use them)

Thank you!

hiiii, is there any chance you could possibly maybe add a linux build :3 that'd be really cool

This was really cool! The art was neat and the controls, despite being somewhat slippery in the air, were pretty nice.

Ah you missed the final boss - it's a little out of the way, in the top left corner of the map. Don't feel the need to revisit it, the save system doesn't work in the browser I believe. Thanks for playing and rating nonetheless!

Neat game! Don't have a lot to say, the cutscenes were very comedic, especially liked the ending lol.
One thing maybe, the backgrounds were a little repetetive which would make it hard to navigate if it wasn't for the map. Loved the remaining art though, super simple and sweet!

"Trainsylvania" is a pun we came up with, based on "Transylvania"(the vampire place) and trains, though the final game unfortunately did not end up having that many trains lol. "Death" stole all your powerups at the beginning, so you'd need to go through the castle and get them back. Thanks for playing!!

Hi!! First, thanks for playing the game all the way through and offering such kind criticism :)
All your points are totally valid and some of them I plan on adressing, noteably the map and lack of trains. I wasn't really aware that the game was as difficult as it is, might adjust that sometime. Thanks!

I see. I got the abilities in the intended order, minus sprout. Unfortunately I did not get to the final puzzle required to finish the game :P

Super sweet game! Had to restart one time because I dragged a skeleton onto a button, which disabled me from dropping a statue on there :P

I really want to play this, a linux build would be cool :>

This was super fun, great game.
I was playing on a controller and the character was amazing to move around, especially enjoyed swinging from grapple point to grapple point.
The art was okay, my favourite was the fluid character animations. Unfortunately some assets(one that immediately comes to mind is the great tree) were unevenly scaled and drawn in different artstyles, which made the whole thing look kind of visually incoherent in some places.
Music was great, it just didn't really stick out and just kind of played on and on in the background, which was the intent I guess x)
The map proved to be very useful, though despite that I couldn't find the last powerup required to break those stone blocks. Honestly I would've wished for the map to be a little more compact and more visually distinct instead of just being as large as it is currently, which would also make it easier to navigate.
Despite that, this is a really good game, I enjoyed my time with it a lot, keep making games!!

Hii, cool little demo you've got there.
Obviously I can't say too much on the metroidvania aspect or gameplay, since the playable area is tiny. I liked the character movement though, it was smooth and snappy!
The artists did a great job, this is very enjoyable to look at.
I don't have much more to say, as you mentioned on your game page, the game is unfinished, so I hope you folks manage to create a complete game sometime!

Hi, the jump button doesn't work for some reason so I can't really progress through the game :P

Neat little platformer

Super polished!! Really liked this, I have nothing to add :P

Unfortunately this isn't my type of game at all haha, though I can appreciate the ridiculous amount of effort that must've gone into making this, the quality at hand is great!!

Cool game!!! Took me a while to beat because some of the later levels are pretty hard, part of that may be fault to the controls, they're a little wonky. Still liked it a ton though!!

Yup! just "kaeselordd" on discord

Mhm I do

(1 edit)

Thanks I drew it myself like half a year ago haha(Yours is cool as well 😎)

Ty :3

Yeah. Honestly, no clue what to do! I seem to move on to the 2nd level seemingly at random?

This game was so sweet! The idea of hurrying from one shelter to another is great and felt really well executed! One thing I may have tweaked would be some kind of incentive to move on quickly from shelter, so you don't camp around in a safe area until lightning strikes. Besides that, amazing game!!

I was at a room at some point, there was 2 laser things, and the game did not allow me to leave, so I basically was just stuck in a cycle of moving around in that room, respawning, repeat.

Ya I did that but then I just kinda got stuck :/
