I know that you mean. I actually did try this game some time ago. It reminded me of Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, the 1992 Science Fiction novel that captivated all of us online multiplayer video game developers at the time. There weren't many of us. The internet was not yet the network of choice, the silly acronym, MMO, had yet to be coined, yet it was easy to imagine an alternate digital world that felt as real as the physical one. It was a good book. Well...I could have done without the snark of the main character's name - Hiro Protagonist. But it was imaginative in a manner that aligned with our own idealized views at the time.
At least I think that was Eternum. I too was feeling time slip away and found its addictive qualities disturbing because I play AVNs for arousing sex scenes that I felt were endlessly teased but not forthcoming.
In over three decades of developing games in nearly every genre, it puzzled me that game design lagged far behind advances in display technology and that so many of these advances enhanced game violence. But not eroticism. No. Erotic is called porn. The word perv has gone from being shorthand for perversion and that has gone from meaning perversion to cover sexual desire in general.
In fairness, most AVNs are porn. They play on perversion. Yet my sense of Eternum, based on just a score of hours playing it, was that its aims were deeper. But, as I dimly recall, the main characters were little more than children. Teenagers. High school students. My least favorite time of life 馃槅 But I popped over here to see if, perhaps, it had been upgraded in quality over what I remembered.
Bottom line, beyond any standards of image quality, character rigging, and animation, I'm not the audience for these games. My idea of an MC is never featured in an AVN. The MCs are never clever, refined, educated, accomplished men who are impeccably dressed, know the difference between a Rubens and a Rembrandt, take equally sophisticated women to exotic locales, never ask for the English menu at a French restaurant, and knows his wines. Someone with class, not just a huge penis. At least he鈥檚 not an unemployed sewer worker as in Leap of Faith. 馃檮
These games seemed to be aimed at young - very young - people. I don't understand. If you're young, horny, keep you weight down, and just stay in shape, why not just....you know...have sex? The other young and horny people out there want to have sex too. But I used to say the same thing about ERP in online games. And I came of age at a very different time. Something has changed that I fail to perceive 馃槈
