"Does that mean we are garbage, too?"
You had me at hello.
Now, I did not finish this - I want to - but I get this. This is why it's important to have a Design Document. Now, this is a prototype - a really good one.
I think this looks too similar to animal well for people to take it seriously.
The Music feels cavernous. It feels forlorn and alien, but also instills a sense of wonder and kind of vibes like a child's mobile.
The controls feel great. The wall jumping does feel like it has a little too much gravity, but then I also figured out you could just walk on the walls.
This is a good example of how a game can feel lonely while still having lots of life. I think you guys absolutely smashed it out of the park with this, but the game would really need it's own identity if it were going foreword.

I came. I strafed. I conquered. Then I got stuck on a wall and slowly levitated in place until the second boss killed me.
Concept is Fine. Like, as a Roguelike, it works. I don't think this would be a good roguelike. I think it would be a good Adventure game, maybe with some lite magic puzzle or Metroid elements.
Use ice to freeze water. Use fire to boil milk. Who knows.
Obviously I think it's insane that you made this in 2 weeks. 10/10.
This is gonna be a "No" from me.
The concept is "yes."
I think this is an interesting take on something like Jump King or Only Up, so, like, honestly. "Yes." This becomes more "Yes" the more I think about it. I mean.
This is a prototype - an inspiring prototype
This is jank in all the right ways, and a concept that could be serious.
10/10 - never change.
It's pretty amazing that you managed to put all this together in such a short time.
I did not finish this -
That said, the main mechanic - the lantern - feels great. If you have never played Unbound or Guacamelee - you would prolly like them.
As a prototype, I think this is fine. As an entry into this Game Jam, i think this is Phenomenal. After reading your "Design Document" I'd say you pretty much nailed what you set out to do.
What I get from your prototype is a game that wants to:
Look like Animal Well
Play like Celete / Super Meatboy
But have the experience of a Metroid game.
That's what the Game Design Document is for. Those are three different games, all of which have similar elements, but each of which is it's own unique experience.
I mean I love you. I really do.
First thing you need to do is add controller support and kick this "JKL" stuff cause it just gave me carpel tunnel.
But in all seriousness, this is cool. It would require a lot to make this a full game that doesn't get super repetitive - if that doesn't turn you off, you could legit pursue this to a full commercial release.
Gameplay - 8/10 - This is a solid base that needs tweaking + depth
Music - 8/10 - It's the right type of music for the game for sure.
Art - 8/10 -
Personally not a fan. For people who like this, I'd say it's average. However, it's put together in a very above average way that shows it was all done with intent, and that intent shows through.
Overall - solid 8/10
The fact that this was made in 2 weeks blows my mind.
This game slaps. I love the art. I love the music. I love the individual mechanics.
The overall feel of the game is not as good as I'm making it sound tho, and you're here for feedback - so -
The movement feels sporadic, and it feels bad for some of the super tight squeezes you put in here.
You maintain your forward momentum through death - in some cases forcing you to your immediate death again.
There are sections that just felt mean - You can't pitch the camera up or down. You really shouldn't put traps where players can't see and ask them to make a leap of faith straight into them.
This game really shines in the last zones. You start off with all this super tight platforming that is cute, but feels quite bad - and then on the last sections the game turns into this mad dash bullet hell filled with falling platforms and very well spaced jumps that had me wishing that was the whole game.
I DO have to take a point away because i'm a Camry guy.
Gameplay - 5/10 - game feels confused.
Music - 10/10 - literally still listening to this.
Art - 8/10 - I love the owl, the boss, and the scenary, but not the tiles.
