Hook and loop version 2 is now out! See patch notes here: https://huag-games.itch.io/hook-and-loop/devlog/1004994/post-jam-update

I will be releasing a balance patch to this game to fix bugs, lighten difficulty, and add a level select screen. I hope some of you come back to give me a second chance:)

there are 10💀

Wow leap of faith 2 that’s very impressive! Yeah the loop physics are a little buggy, some elasticity may help. Most of the problems come when you try to hit a hook line while traveling up after a high jump. It’s because of how the collision shapes are handled.  lol I didn’t think the dot in the player would be a highlight!

what was the similar game?

Broo this brings back memories. When I was a little kid and I had just gotten my new microscope, the first moving thing I saw with it looked exactly like this game. I wasn't very good at this game, but I liked the vibe.

Really unique take on the bullet hell genre. I like the loop movement scheme. And the lofi type music really adds a lot. A relaxing bullet hell? Who would have thought

I think this could have some really interesting level design, however it seemed like in multiple levels the ball phased through the walls allowing cheese.

Interesting concept. the hints were very cryptic. I got stuck on the 5th room but still a fun game.

Thanks for the detailed review! It definitely is a very difficult game. As the developer, I didn’t think that the first (and second) level was too hard, as it teaches all the important mechanics for future levels. But I think I could have done a better job at difficulty balancing. I will probably add a level select after the jam, and possibly make the first couple levels easier as well. I don’t want to overhaul the difficulty of the whole game however, as it’s designed to be difficult.

I enjoyed this game, but it wasn't apparent until the last round or two that I was supposed to be cooperative with the past runs. maybe a tutorial level would be beneficial instead of a text wall. (I was too lazy to read it lol)

I really like this one. Kinda feels like you are training a TAS bot. Final level got me lol

Nice game! I feel like this could be built upon further!

Novel concept! echoing some other comments, gamepad support would be nice. it would bring up an issue (feature?) though where you could move both axis at the same time.

Thank you!

Useful tutorial. I've been trying to learn how to press the a button my whole life.

Maybe you could map one of the mouse buttons to dash as well?

I like the line art style of this game. The mechanics are well thought out and executed well. It was really refreshing to have a retro-esque platformer without spike spam all the time. I actualIy really liked that you can't die. I think you could take this game further, maybe add a checkpoint system and make some longer levels.

I like how polished this is. The size change concept is cool, feels like it should have been in last years GMTK jam. The dialog system is impressive for ten days. Only suggestion is to add some bg music.

I really like the cartridge idea. I think you could expand on that a lot. Like the low poly style as well. My only suggestion is to either add a run mechanic so you can walk or run or make the movement speed a little slower. I found it a little hard to control in some areas.

Interesting take on the endless runner genre. Adding a dash is something I've never seen in a 2d endless runner

I liked this game, really well themed. The movement mechanics are difficult but I think thats intentional. I think this game would benefit from some more open level design with an emphasis on high speed momentum conservation. Like a lot more slides and high speed jumps. Some of the wall jump sections seemed a little slow for the move set. Also I think I cheesed the ending. I was at the moving platform section and had a lot of momentum flying right toward the void. When I respawned it showed the thanks for playing screen prematurely. I must of set off the end collision somehow.  Great game tho, really nice movement tech

Fun game! I think the movement mechanics have real potential for some obscure tech tricks that are really fun. would be cool to see some timed levels with higher difficulty!

Funny idea. Love the humour on this one

Hilarious idea

Really fun game. Good movement, good use of the mechanics. The only critique I have is to map space as jump as well as W.

I smell a pun

(1 edit)

fun mechanics, prolly would be a good idea to remove the turrets at the spawn point so people can figure out how to move around before getting shot at. For my machine it took like ten seconds to load the level, not sure why. also you can grapple the collectables, not sure if that's intended.

Really enjoyed this one, especially the challenge levels. The planning phase can can be cheesed by restarting the level so you don't really ever lose ink. It would be nice if you could draw during the planning phase, but the rush of how it is currently adds a fun dynamic.  Would love to see more of the challenging mid air levels!

Very fun. I like the retro style plus the monochrome. It would be nice if there was a life counter so you could know if your on your last life.

hmm interesting idea

Thanks for the input! I’m not sure why the title is tripping people up, I’m an animal guy so I would have thought people would know that a horny toad is a kind of lizard. What challenges would you suggest I add?

thx

Thanks!

Thank you!

Thanks!

Thank you!

Thanks!

Really impressive game for two days! I played for a long time, I think I maxed it out on day 19 cause all the guys and enemies stopped moving and the sound started to glitch. Really good tower defense.
