This is some great feedback! I definitely wanted to add more abilities but I hit the limitations for the amount of code that fits on a Pico8 cart (and my ability to optimise it😅). So I might need to consider porting the game to a different engine if I want to take this idea much further. Unlocking the different playmodes might be possible though?

- I agree I should probably just always let the player keep firing after the last charge in Onslaught+. It was a weird holdover from when I was first experimenting with having an infinite point scoring mode.

- I personally don't mind the Mimic sometimes re-selecting the same ability sometimes, as I feel that's the risk/randomness of performing a swap with that ability active (like a physical dice, sometimes you roll the same number twice). But I'll keep your suggestion in mind if I make future tweaks.

- I also agree that the visual design of the special enemies makes them look VERY similar and I sometimes forget which one does what if they aren't actively about to attack. Either that or post a little visual guide/cheat-sheet for identifying each of them

Oh, if you're using fake-08 then that is probably why there are issues with the saving data like highscores (it's also probably why "try again" just reboots the game instead of restarting the game mode you just finished). I'm not sure if I can fix it in my game as that may just be an issue with the fake08 emulator. If there is a way for you to run Pico8 natively on your Miyoo Mini Plus that would probably solve the issue, but if I find out another work around I'll let you know

Hmm... that is odd. I will try and look into this see if I can find some way to reproduce it on one of my handheld devices. If any other high scores end up saving let me know! 😅

Ah really glad you like the game! And thanks for the bug report, is this happening with version 2 or 3? (you can check by going into "About" and looking at the last line of text, also the files themselves are labelled v2 or v3)

Cheers! (and that does remind me, I REALLY should check out UFO50 😅)

Thanks for playing!

Just managed to find the time to play the update!  Still brutally difficult, but I DID manage to get the axe and then the shotgun/musket and make it to the end of the level. Was a lot of fun, and I the difficulty forced me to sometimes run away and find health or ammo at certain points so I could come back and finish off certain enemies (particularly those bone monsters). Awesome stuff!

This was really fun to play! Really liked some of the details like the decorative bits of rubble or hanging vines that acted as obstacles unless destroyed. Also really like the boss battle! Awesome stuff!

Difficulty on this is brutal! I wanted to play more cause the look and style of this is awesome, but I just kept getting destroyed with nothing but a knife in hand 😅 (is there some trick to timing the melee combat that I'm missing?).

Still looks rad and feels polished!

Enjoyed how the narrow fog/darkness distance makes the zombies suddenly jump out at you throughout the level. Level design was a pretty linear, but the guns were really satisfying to use

I really like the lack of HUD details, it made for some tense situations when I suddenly ran out of ammo. I either ended up getting mauled or managed to dash past the zombies to grab more ammunition. Really had to make sure my shots counted! Loved the visual style, but really struggled to read the text with that particular font/effect applied to it (and as already mentioned a little more variation in enemies and weapons would be neat).

Took me a while to work out what I was doing in the first level, but got there eventually. REALLY digging the minimalist art style and lighting, and the puzzle like approach to gameplay. Was a really interesting environment to explore! (unfortunately had to stop after it crashed on the second level)

had to really scrounge for ammo in the first level, but the REALLY like the feel of the weapons and the open level design made for some fun runnin' and gunnin'.  Awesome stuff!
