It's written entirely in Lua, you can check out the code here if you want to :) https://github.com/SamMatsa/stalk-the-giant

Thank you! :D I'm glad I could make you laugh

Thanks! :)

The sounds are clearly missing here for sure, especially with multiple things going on at the same time. I fell into the old trap of adding music and sound effects last minute since I just forgot them to be honest 😅

Thanks I worked really hard on the giant looking part :)

Well I didn't expect that it will trigger some childhood trauma :D Glad you enjoyed it

Loved the use of the crank, feels just great to play!

The game looks really good and plays great. Also it fits the theme perfectly. Great job :D

Wow this is great! You just convinced me to play your other games now (which I already bought some time ago)

Thats exactly my humor. Had a laugh or two :D

I had a lot of fun playing this and it's definitley my favourite game of the jam! You make really great use of the crank.

Add a few levels, maybe a few changes based on feedback below and you have a full game already. Pretty amazing stuff congrats :D

IMPORTANT: If you want to sideload this game on your playdate use this hotfix version I made: https://einfuehl-sam.itch.io/stalk-the-giant-hotfix

Yeah thats a common theme in my jam games, to much things going on right at the beginning 😅. I just crammed everything I could in it. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks much appreciated :)

Thats great to hear :) Thank you

I fixed it. You can download it here:  https://einfuehl-sam.itch.io/stalk-the-giant-hotfix

IMPORTANT: If you want to sideload this game on your playdate use this hotfix version I made: https://einfuehl-sam.itch.io/stalk-the-giant-hotfix . The emulation works fine.  Sorry for the inconvenience!

I'll check it out and let you know when it works

The pixel art is really cool and I love the story bits. I enjoyed it :)

The Art is just phenomenal! Really cool stuff

The Aesthetics are perfect, well done!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Thank you so much! 😁

A bit too hard for me. Pretty huge scope in terms of weapon choices and enemy design, really neat!  The sword didn't hit the enemies correctly sadly. But other than that cool stuff :)

Neat and clean concept and I like artstyle!

Nice short game. Thank you! :)

I love the art and the land octopus!

Yes exactly, you get another ending screen telling you that you successfully escaped :)

Cool idea and execution! The voice acting is really good. The only thing bothering me was the camera sound, it became annoying pretty fast haha. But other than that good job :)

The theme song alone makes you the winner of our hearts. Really great art and animation, I'm seriously impressed! Great job and please keep making bad theme songs, I LOVE 'EM!

The game looks excellent and I love the level of polished you achieved!

Chill game! I enjoyed it :)

Neat mechanic and simplistic style! The music didn't worked in the version I played unfortunately. Still fun game :)

It isn't! I wasn't sure if I should just leave the player to "discover" this or to tell them right away. I think in the end it would have been better to simply communicate this to the player to reduce confusion 😁

The red cell follows you directly and cant be blocked by other cells. My aim was to keep the player moving all the time.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I should have made clear that the goal is to simply survive. The red and dead cells can't be killed. Only the attacking ones. Maybe a highscore approach would be more satisfying 🤔

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! I will definitely change the camera when reworking the game for v1.1 😁.

And yes it's a Blade Runner 2049 reference, I'm glad someone noticed! For me finding a name for the game is always part of creating the concept. I always play with a bunch of lose ideas but choosing a name really helps me to focus on a specific mechanic and coherent theme. So technically the concept came first, then I chose a name and after that I started coding :)

Really cool mechanic! I liked how you showcased different approaches. The kill-to-teleport mechanic has a nice feeling to it :) Good job!

Thanks for the honest feedback! I agree the camera could be further away. My initial idea for the prison cells was to be kind of a joker which stops the dead cells mop so that you can concentrate on killing the living cells.
